#thankyou
for the immense support over the past few days. I will always cheer for
@AHS_media
because I know first hand what a great healthcare organization it is.
#thankyou
for the honour of leading it for 6+ yrs & for your continued efforts in caring for & caring about Albertans
I learned long ago that not everyone can be a leader. Even when they seem to have the skills & experience, some will get seduced by power. They don’t listen & are blind to everything around them. But everyone can build
#leadershipcompetencies
ie.
#selfawareness
#empathy
#humility
Lead with integrity and respect so others will follow. Blaming and attacking others only exposes flaws in leadership competencies; flaws that lead to a toxic environment. Instead act by building trust with
#humility
,
#empathy
, and
#kindness
.
Leadership is meaningless if you don’t have the support of the people whom you lead. Why else would you want to be a leader? That’s why leading
@AHS_media
has been the highlight of my career
#ThankYou
for the many years of support
#gratefulforyou
#servantleaders
I’ve pointed out that Leadership is not about whether you have a title or not. It is about having the leadership competencies so that one can & should make life better for those around them regardless of where you are in a system.
#empathy
#integrity
#authenticity
#humility
“To the world you may be one person but to one person you may be the world” Josephine Billings knew that no matter who you are, what you do, or where you come from, we can all make a positive difference through caring and helping others
#kindnessmatters
#makeadifference
Someone once asked me to give them a
#leadership
title so that ppl would listen to him/her. Dont u think that’s backwards thinking? Gain the trust & respect of ppl first & then you’ll be a natural leader. You don’t need a title for that
#respect
#credibility
#trust
#authenticity
Some ppl in power don’t realize how fleeting it can be. One day you have it; the next day you don’t. If you wanted power for the sake of power you’ll have lost everything. But if you stay true to urself & know that power is a means to an end, when the power is gone, u r still you
I knew early on that the best way to learn how to be a good physician was to learn from my nursing colleagues.
#ThankYou
to all the nurses who taught me how to be a collaborative member of the healthcare team. Because healthcare is a team sport.
#HappyNursesWeek
#gratitude
Surround yourself with smart knowledgeable ppl who have diverse views from yourself. And then
#listen
#learn
and be
#humble
enough to know when you need help. These are all underrated leadership skills but so critical for an effective leader.
I’ve had the privilege throughout my life to be a physician. To care for and help Canadians through difficult health issues. To me, it’s more than just a profession.
#thankyou
for the trust. And happy
#NationalPhysiciansDay
to all my colleagues for their commitment to care
As a leader, when something goes wrong, don’t blame others or look for excuses. Just take responsibility and work with your team to move forward. Good leaders are responsible leaders.
#ResponsibleLeadership
#OwnIt
#NoExcuses
Micromanagement is either a sign of insecurity or a sign of mistrust. If you have a competent team, trust them to do the work. That will help them build their own confidence along with their trust in you.
#TrustMeTrustYou
#Humility
is an underrated leadership competency. It reinforces the importance of listening to others, being inclusive of all viewpoints & learning from others no matter who you are or what you do. Humility benefits not only the leader but all who are being led
#team
#respect
When you apply for a leadership position and don’t get the job, people will be watching how you react to rejection. So stay above it and move on. When one door closes, others will open.
#resilience
You want ppl who work for you to go above and beyond the call of duty. But in return, as a leader, you must treat ppl well. Respect them, support them and trust them to do the work and use their skills.
#CareForOthers
#BeKindToAll
#RespectTheTeam
On this holiday of thanks, I would like to thank ALL staff/MDs/volunteers
@AHS_media
who dedicate their lives to caring for Albertans. Let’s show some gratitude
#ThankYouAHS
#HappyThanksgiving
From my personal experience, ppl in AHS want to do the right thing in caring for and of Albertans. And as an Albertan,
#ThankYou
for all that you do and have done for healthcare.
@AHS_media
As leaders, decisions are not always easy. You make them with the best information & the best intentions but sometimes you are wrong. Effective leaders have the humility to acknowledge that & make a commitment to do better.
Remember that people watch everything u do as a leader & will make judgments about why u do it. Most importantly, they will watch how u treat others. So treat others the way you’d like to be treated. & role model the values that will build a positive, healthy culture
#respect
A selfless leader is one who empowers others to succeed. A selfish leader only empowers themselves, wasting the talent around them and weakening the entire organization. Which type of leader do you want to be?
#ServantLeader
Integrity is an important aspect of leadership. It garners trust and centers decision making. But it is something that you embody over a lifetime, not just when you have a leadership title.
#LeadingWithIntegrity
Someone asked me how do u build a positive culture that everyone is proud to be a part of? It starts from role modelling behaviors where u treat everyone with the same honesty & respect that u expect to be treated urself, no matter who or what u do
#Respect
#CaringCulture
The good news about failure is that you can learn so much from it. In fact, you can learn more from your failures than your successes. You just have to be honest with yourself and make sure you don’t make the same mistake twice!
#ContinuousImprovement
#LearnFromFailure
So grateful to

@BFlanaganUofA

The words we use to describe successful leadership tend to reflect our unconscious biases: assertive(male), collaborative(female), confident(male), team builder(female). And the list goes on.Let’s be mindful that these are all important attributes of a leader regardless of gender
As I reflect on the past turbulent yr, I am hopeful that 2023 will be filled with happiness, health, restoration and betterment for all. From mine to yours.

One of the most important metrics of successful leadership is to make sure the organization will continue to thrive even if you’re no longer there. Investing time in succession planning is critical for all organizations to ensure sustainability&resiliency.

When new opportunities come up, don’t discount it right away because u don’t see yourself in that role. Putting constraints on what u think u can do only limits ur true potential.
#ChallengeYourself
#NoLimits
Authenticity and trustworthiness are essential to effective leadership. Without it, you won't be able to garner the respect of those whom you need support from when having to make tough decisions. Actually, any decisions.
#AuthenticLeadership

“Neglected no more” is a must read about the devastation of Covid on seniors in care. As a nation we must learn from past mistakes and reconstruct how we want our parents and grandparents cared for
