It’s an honor & privilege to don my white coat as I begin my MD-PhD training. In the last 60 YEARS, only ~200 black men have pursued & finished a MD-PhD. Knowing I will join their ranks one day is a blessing & I’m so thankful to God & my Village that got me here! 👌🏾👨🏾‍⚕️🩺

So proud of my dad man. His mom had him @ 16, grew up in the jects of Cle, defied ALL odds. His doctorate is a study of factors contributing to disproportionately low #'s of African Americans in positions of leadership in his field. He said I have no excuse not to be next up❤️

Heard one of my heroes speak today. 7 yrs ago I emailed Emery Brown, MD-PhD as a freshman asking to do research w him. He helped me get in my 1st lab @harvardmed & is a huge reason I am here now. You never know who your life can impact! Thank you Dr. B

Yesterday, @JCI_insight pubbed our study examining MD-PhD program acceptance & how it varies by demographics & research experience. 1st-gen, Black or reapplying applicants were less likely to be accepted, regardless of research experience & publications.

For anyone who doesn't know I have been in the hospital since early Sunday morning with acute renal failure. I appreciate the prayers from everyone and apologize to those I haven't been able to get back to. Hopefully I will be healthy and back to work as soon as possible! 🙏🏾

People who think racism doesn't exist anymore should take a look at how differently I get approached in the hospital with and without my ID on my hip. It's crazy how 4 inches of plastic can completely change how people come at you

I had just left a 2.5 hr long ochem lab, but of course, base your vote on what I wore and not the 1 Mil+ I saved students on books, the new parking spots I worked to add, my policy advocacy for minorities/URMs, the 2 orgs I founded(EMS/MAPS), etc..but yeah, focus on the hoodie🤷🏽‍♂️

This constant negativity on campus has to stop. We need to be as united as possible as students, not insulting each other. Do Daniel and I get it right every time? Definitely not. But we are honestly doing our very best to represent students as best we can during these times.

Its my 3rd year in neuroscience research. Ive worked in 4 labs at 3 unis & have publications in prog at Harvard & Cornell. Been to many conferences/talks. Despite this, I still have yet to meet a black man in my field. Ever Now ask yourself, why is that? That's what drives me.

DEI is NOT about lowering the bar!!! It is about giving people the opportunity, tools, & access they need to jump higher!! This is such an important distinction in medicine, where outcomes are so closely tied to provider's social/cultural competency.

Minority patients benefit from having minority doctors, but that’s a hard match to make

Minority patients do better when treated by doctors who share the same race or ethnicity But there’s a problem. Most doctors are white, and only 6% of doctors are black.

Small win - but I’ve finally lost all of the weight I gained in the hospital. I gained 26 pounds in 9 days and felt horrible. It’s taken a while it’s been hell to get it off but I’m proud of myself.

Finished writing my ENTIRE senior thesis and as I'm going over it w my advisor I realize I made a small but key statistical error that invalidated almost all of the findings I talked about 🤦🏽‍♂️ now I have to rewrite half the paper + remake ALL of the graphs and it's due Friday...🙃

I honestly think this is the best option for students by far. We'll get to see our final grades and then decide if we want to keep the letter grade and have it apply to our GPA, or simply take a pass/fail/unsatisfactory. Thank you @wrightstate !

Not big on conspiracy theories but Mattress Firm HAS to be a front for something else. There's almost as many mattress firms as there are Starbucks in the US and they are all so close together. People only buy a new mattress once every 10 years or so this is crazy😂😂😂

Just spoke with WSUs parking and transportation dept. From this time last year to now there have been 149 faculty spaces converted to student spots. The dept monitors usage every day and will continue to look at the data to examine the need for more conversion going forward.

Today my administration passed Resolution 21-05: Advocating for & supporting the building of NPHC plots on campus. Even before I was Greek this was a huge goal of mine and I'm thankful we're 1 step closer to making it happen. Hopefully we can get this done by the end of the year!
