Recent severe weather conditions have exposed the Museum of Making to substantial flood damage. The museum will be closed to the public whilst insurers are consulted, the damage is further assessed and a repair plan is put in place.

Hospital Carnival Day was an annual fundraising event held in Derby in aid of local hospitals prior to the foundation of the National Health Service in 1948. The people of Derby went to great lengths with costume, stalls and decorated floats to raise vital funds. 🏥 👏

2020 marks the 180th anniversary of the opening of Derby Arboretum; thought to be England's first public park. Throughout the 19th century the anniversaries were celebrated by a balloon ascent. This tiny 2 inch square watercolour by Charlotte Vawser shows the 1850 event.
