The lovely highland cattle are now grazing the heathland 'triangle' where they are happily munching through the bramble. This helps to create a great mosaic of vegetation and bare ground giving #heathland specialists chance to flourish.

Thanks to Kelly Burgess for sharing this super photo of a male and female Adder basking together. I first saw this female 'AA2' as a youngster in spring 2016 - the markings on the head are unique which allows us to identify and monitor our Adder population.

Another wonderful day of #wildlife at @RSPBPulborough once the early morning mist cleared. Little Ringed Plover at West Mead, 6 Avocets, amazing views of all 3 newt species in the pond. A bumper half hour in the afternoon with White-tailed Eagle and White Stork! 🎥Rob King

A very full sightings board yesterday featuring singing Nightingales, Cuckoo, Lesser Whitethroat and more. A great selection out on the wetlands included Spotted Redshank, Whimbrel, Greenshank and Lapwing with chicks. Great photo of a pair of Garganey from Chris Moore.

An incredible, albeit chilly, dawn chorus this morning. Two #nightingales putting on a wonderful performance at Fattengates. Same again tomorrow morning please (with maybe a thicker pair of socks)!

Friday 10 Nov. I have re-opened Winpenny Hide but Nettley's hide remains closed. As I walked the trail to check the hides I encountered several parties of small birds - amongst the Long-tailed Tits were several Goldcrests and a stunning Firecrest. 📷Firecrest by Chris Prince.

I've just been out on the heath setting up our new interpreted trail and this splendid creature was lying on his back, legs flailing just 20 metres from his sign...I couldn't resist. Find out more: #HelpTheHeath @sdnpa

You know there is a lot of water at @RSPBPulborough when the number of Tufted Ducks and Pochard are in double figures - these diving ducks prefer the deep water. More unusual was the Slavonian Grebe seen on the South Brooks today - the first one in a decade! @SussexOrnitholo

Our reserve still remains closed to the public, however the exciting news is that we can now carry out monitoring of some of our high priority species. Visit👉 for behind the scenes reserve updates. Enjoy this beautiful photo taken on the Heath #RSPBEngland
