The desire to exclusively engage w/ media/art made by “unproblematic”???? artists is a direct result of Americans viewing media consumption as an inherently political act bc it’s seemingly all that’s left. We’ve been stripped & socialized out of any real political energy & agency

Austin Powers isn’t really even a parody, it’s more of a very earnest homage with (in many cases) details lifted directly from Bond films. The cultural impact this movie had can’t be understated. It’s so funny and so entertaining and smarter than people give it credit for.

"Some people felt ['Megalopolis'] was, 'Here’s boobs, here’s drugs,'" said one source who saw the Francis Ford Coppola film. "But the decadence has a larger context for Coppola, it feels a bit like a cautionary tale about where America is headed."

@HitFactoryPod I’d also argue that engaging with art/media that is challenging & uncomfortable is necessary & good for you if for no other reason than to simply explore something new? Living in a hermetically sealed media bubble completely smoothes the brain

This headline is pissing me off. Elizabeth loved the movie, worked really hard on it & cherished the experience even with challenges. She doesn’t have to make peace w/ anything. Hollywood, audiences & every idiot critic who torched her after this film are the ones with work to do

Truly hilarious & embarrassing how frantically/openly against any collective action that fights establishment power all of corporate media is, even when that collective action is literally just nature trying to exist.

Thierry Mugler is so missed. He was a master architect of form and did some truly remarkable things with his metalwork in so many of his collections.

Denying a woman’s own account of her feelings towards pain/difficult experiences in her life robs of her agency you actually think you’re giving her in that denial. It is not feminism or advocacy. It is deeply infantilizing & destructive.

I love when news outlets act like they have no part in enforcing false narratives that serve corporate interests. “Walgreens may have overstated the impact crime had on their decision to close stores” no YOU overstated, YOU perpetuated that lie

Hadn’t seen this in over a decade and upon rewatch it’s fully affirmed for me that Terry Gilliam is one of my favorite directors and that this movie is (dare I say it) a masterpiece.

Bringing the very real concept of consent into the arena of “sex scenes in movies I’m watching” completely perverts the entire concept of consent btwn human beings living in the meat world together & makes it about “not being offended” which is a very different thing than consent

@LeonardHoen Right! And who decides what ideologically pure is anyway? And beyond that, Americans don’t even have ideologies anymore - no organizing principles that consistently define one’s beliefs & perspectives - just an ever-growing list of things & people they hate
