you guys know the drill!! if you're getting clip studio paint on sale for the first time and you want to learn how to use the program or just some handy tips, i have a full list of my CSP tutorials available here
👀✨
if you're getting clip studio paint during the spring sale and want to learn all the cool features it has then check out my masterlist of guides and tips!! it's huge and updates regularly ✨
a neat clip studio paint feature i don't see mentioned often: if you're working with a limited color palette, use the intermediate color window to make yourself a set of swatches! you can fill the 4 corner squares with any colors you like and it'll fill in the rest 👍
another super useful clip studio paint tool that makes my life much easier: the close and fill lasso tool!
if you have closed lines, the lasso will fill them in! it works great for coloring rough sketches or textured lineart without leaving white pixels ✨ (1/3)
if anybody is making the switch over from photoshop to csp, reminder that i have a masterlist of csp tutorials & guides made by me that go over almost every useful feature i could think of in csp + a beginner's tutorial for people just starting out!! 🎨
i want "cringe art" culture to die off so we can have a positive counter-movement. instead of laughing at art we think is amateur, we should encourage creators and congratulate their improvement. learning a skill at any level deserves respect and kindness, not mockery
since a lot of people recently started using clip studio paint for the first time, i thought i'd share one of my favorite features for lineart: vector layers! ✨
they allow you to erase portions of lines that intersect automatically and are a huge timesaver!! (1/3)
if you're debating on buying clip studio paint during the seasonal sale but aren't sure if you want to commit, i have a guide that breaks down a lot of its features for beginners!
read for free here:
hooray for CSP timelapse feature!! \o/
if you want to make a button for it, reminder that you can add buttons to your command bar through File > Command Bar Settings!!
or alternately you can add it to you quick access menu through those settings!!
CSP is on sale again so here's my quarterly reminder that i have a huge masterlist of all my free CSP tutorials and guides! if you're a beginner buying it for the first time or just someone wanting to learn more i suggest checking it out!
💫since CSP is on sale once again and some people will be trying it for the first time, reminder that i have a huge collection of my CSP tutorials and tips for how to use its best features!💫
quick little clip studio paint tip:
if you're drawing a bunch of repetitive lines like fences, books on shelves, stripes, etc. use the "parallel line" ruler (under the special ruler tool) and all your lines will automatically be parallel!
the instagram algorithm is trash and i feel like it's difficult to find new artists on there SO
if you're an artist with an instagram, leave your link below and a screenshot of your page so i and others can check it out! RTs are appreciated
quick clip studio paint tip:
you can use the "quick mask" function to use any brush as a selection. it's super helpful for making organic-looking selections and textures!
IT'S DONE.
i wrote up a massive comparison post for a bunch of the current and upcoming social medias out there for artists!
hopefully this can shed some light on the options out there and what looks promising!
read here:
csp update is out!!
you can find the new liquify brush under the blur sub tool set - highly recommend making a few duplicates of the brush and switching each one over to a different liquify setting for max convenience!
posted a new asset for csp, this one is another rainbow noise type paper texture that i like to overlay over my art!
this one is more pulpy/papery which i like using for rendered art like the example ✨

i've received a ton of questions from people unsure of how to approach making & editing clip studio paint brushes, so after much ado i made this guide breaking down all of the available brush settings! 🖌️✨

i made a master guide for how to use clip studio paint's 3D model system for your art! ✨
includes how to download + use assets or even add your own models to your library, plus some ways to use them for drawing!

quick clip studio paint tip: the "pick up color from layer" eyedropper is a tool that will only color pick from the layer you're currently on. this is really handy for color picking from layer mode layers or for picking a base color beneath a ton of layer mode layers (1/3)
i created a guide explaining the basics of clip studio paint for beginners! if you recently purchased csp or are just looking for some help getting comfortable with the program then consider giving it a read 🎨🖌️
you can read it for free here:
if you're buying CSP during the summer sale and would like some beginner tutorials + info about its best features, i have a big masterlist of all my guides that you can check out here!
quick little tip for drawing backgrounds:
if you're using rulers or line tools to draw buildings and furniture, using a brush with varied line width and texture can keep things from looking too static and artificial!
there doesn't have to be a "point" to a character being trans. them being trans can have nothing to do with their story whatsoever. trans people don't exist just to prove a point, further a narrative, or act as angst fuel for a story.
here's a quick CSP tip: if you're working on something with a lot of layers and want to be able to quickly go between two layers that are far from each other, press the "show layer in 2 panes" button at the bottom of the layer panel to break it up into two scrollable lists!
i would say this was a successful experiment!
despite nobody RTing this post it had a big reach. what this tells me is that replies are just as (if not more) effective than RTing to spread posts.
if an artist you like posts art, please support them and leave a nice reply!
i'd like to try an experiment i've seen recently in light of twitter going Cursed
if you're an artist or creator, leave some samples of your work + info below and **DO NOT RETWEET**
if you like someone else's work please leave a reply and tell them what you like about it! 💕
quick clip studio paint tip: a handy feature for people whose art uses a lot of layers is the "search layer" window! it allows you to filter out certain layers to help you find the ones you're looking for 👍
(1/?)
if you're a trans artist, drop your art + info below and i'll check out your page! i'd really like to meet more of you in 2019 and make a compiled list of trans artists for others to follow! 💕
(if you aren't a trans artist, RT so they can find the post!)
🌈 HAPPY PRIDE! 🌈
i'd love to make a new LGBT+ creators thread to add to my master list!!
if you're an LGBT+ creator of any kind, reply below with your name, samples of your work, and links!
RTs are appreciated and make sure to follow & support these creators! 🌈
since clip studio paint is on sale i figured i would bring back this chart again from their official site! it lists off the differences between the different versions so you can decide which one you think suits you the best 👍
i wanted to make a new thread for 2019 to put in my LGBT artist masterlist () so this will be that thread! 🏳️🌈
if you're an LGBT artist, leave your info and some samples of your art below!
RTs are also appreciated to spread the word!! 🎉
since twitter moments have become pretty obsolete i compiled all of my tutorial threads (including my clip studio paint tips) into a google sheets page!
you can check it out here:
guess which comic artist had a galaxy brain moment today and realized he could make head angle brushes so his characters heads stay proportionate

this is what it looks like, and these are the settings i use most often. you can tweak these settings to match your lineart and can adjust it to fill in open gaps in your lineart. (2/3)
the best way to gain success with your art online is to lift up the other artists around you and foster a community that can grow together.
a rude artist with lots of skill may get followers, but a kind artist who cheers on others regardless of skill will get true support 👍

an asset i recommend downloading from the CSP asset manager is this 3D room, which functions like the other 3D background objects but is just a plain gridded room. it's really handy for figuring out composition!
i've seen a lot of people saying that the new clip studio paint UI makes it hard to tell icons apart, so here's a tip! if you rignt click on an icon and go to 'icon settings' you can change its background color!
works for command bar, quick access & individual tool icons 👍
✨ THREAD ✨
yesterday i had to do a total reinstall of clip studio paint to fix a bug and i figured i would mention this because it was really handy!
if you haven't yet, i really recommend doing an occasional backup of all your settings on their free cloud storage. (1/?)

recently made a new CSP brush set of pencils and markers for sketching ✏️✨ i recommend pairing them with a paper texture overlay for the best effect!
available at the links below!
if you got the updated default CSP brushes with the new update but want to revert them back to how they behaved before, CSP put the old versions up for download on their assets page 👀
✨ THIS IS WHERE THE MAGIC HAPPENS ✨
any changes you make to the file object canvas will instantly be changed on any other file, including the skewed version we put on the building! once you press save, the changes will immediately transfer over.
since i had a few people ask and needed an excuse to organize them anyways, i uploaded my favorite gradients to the clip studio asset manager!
you can download them here:
3. you can create a duplicate of your current window by going to Window > Canvas > New Window ! this is good for seeing real-time changes to your fullsize drawing while also being zoomed in.
what's one thing you know you draw "incorrectly" but you prefer how it looks anyways?
i always draw legs very long and used to get critiqued on it constantly in college but i just love them that way!!
working on a guide about drawing backgrounds for beginners or artists who are a little intimidated by them!
if you fall into either of those categories, what are some questions or advice you'd like to know about?
i'd like to try an experiment i've seen recently in light of twitter going Cursed

this feature is useful if you're someone who likes to draw in big strokes or someone with a shaky lineart hand. it also works across multiple layers!
here's an example of me using it for lineart:
the first part of my guide on drawing backgrounds is now up on patreon! this is part 1 of a multi-part guide ✨
this part covers the basics of perspective, and how to figure out where the heck to start things from!

some ways to get cool effects using gradient maps:
- have your brush set to "multiply" in the tool settings
- turn the watercolor edges on for your brush
- use a textured brush or a brush with anti-aliasing

check out other artists' posts and RT if you want! 🌠
gradient maps are a type of tonal correction / adjustment layer which assign a gradient of colors to the value scale of an image.
(in this gif, yellow is assigned to the lightest values, pink is assigned to midtone values, and blue is for dark values) (1/?)

this first part just covers some basics about contrast, curves and balance. i'll be making a part 2 soon as well to go further in depth!
for people debating on making the switch from photoshop to clip studio paint, here's all of my csp threads for really cool and handy features that i think make it worth it 💖
if you set a brush with blending and color mixing turned on to work with a reference layer, you can make a cool blended effect with the affected areas 👌

i posted my clip studio paint auto action for coloring lineart up on patreon! 🖍
it colors your lineart based on the colors in your drawing with one click and is really easily adjustable.
you can check it out and read the guide for free here:
you can add them to your canvas by dragging them in from the [3D Materials] window. there are 4 default models, with one set (the older set - blue stripes) sporting more realistic features and the other set (the newer set - orange stripes) sporting more stylized proportions (1/?)
i want to start an art challenge where someone sends you a random brush file and you have to do a whole drawing with just that brush. i think it'd be a fun challenge and would push people out of their comfort zones a little!
gradient maps are really useful for coming up with base color palettes if you're starting from a black and white illustration, or for color adjusting an already colored illustration. (5/?)
i posted a new guide for how to use gradient maps to enhance your colors! includes tips for using gradient maps to build color schemes from scratch on b/w drawings and to harmonize the colors in colored drawings ✨

there is not a single artist whose art hasn't undergone a massive change from the time they started until now. i'm much more thankful to the people who encouraged me when my art was still in its beginning stages than to the people who insulted me and made me feel small.

i wanted to give myself a little project to work on so i made some designs for a fake vampire romance VN 🧛♂️🩸
prince uriel (the MC) has to choose a suitor to marry before the next eclipse so he can ascend to the throne and become king 👑
there are two ways to use gradient maps in clip studio paint.
i personally recommend using the "layer > correction layer > gradient map" method, because it will allow you to edit and mask off the map later. (2/?)
