At long last, she’s here! Please meet Leena Mo, CEO. A few years ago I was asked to speak to my daughter’s class about what I do for a living–and I could not find a single children’s book about entrepreneurship, let alone one with a young girl as a protagonist. I vowed then and
My daughter started 1st grade at a new school today. She held hands with a friend she met just 10 mins prior, giving each other strength as they walked into their elementary experience. What would the 🌎 be like if we approached scary situations with the same empathy and trust?
Just spoke with another MD friend at the frontlines of

Lots to celebrate today at Lux, and honored to be among those recognized for their hard work and commitment to the partnership and portfolio.
So proud to be a part of this special team and to have the privilege to back extraordinary founders shaping the future. Onwards!

Forget the warm intro-- I have so much respect for the cold email. Some of the most valuable people in my orbit (founders, colleagues, partners) came through a cold email. It shows hustle and grit to send it, and humility and openness to respond. That makes for a winning combo.
As an early stage VC, it's my job to find the diamonds in the rough. It's one thing to chase heat or go after known entities, but when you seek out the raw attributes in a founder that you KNOW will translate into success, you run towards it. And that requires an open-mind. 🧵
VCs spend all day every day talking to founders. Every now and then I have to stop and remember how extraordinary each one is. It is rare and brave and difficult and exceptional to start a company. Whether or not we invest, I learn so much from these inventors of the future.
Just got a cold e-mail from a 16-year old pitching his background and story via a 2-min Loom, and let's just say there are some great lessons we can all take a page from on storytelling, gumption, and ambition.
in case this week hasn't been harrowing enough for you, please take a moment to enjoy this terrifying paper mache creation courtesy of my 4-year old.

@Google

@GVTeam
, I’m thrilled to announce I'm joining
@Lux_Capital

More on that here:
You will never forget those who took a chance on you and believed before it was obvious,
And you’ll always remember those who passed on the chance to or dismissed you because they couldn’t see it.
Both can be hugely motivating forces—to prove one right and the other wrong.
Don't ask someone if they "have time." Nobody *has* time. They make it, or they take it.
Everything is a trade-off -- the question is, are they willing to to prioritize that ask over the other tasks, meetings, family priorities, health, etc.
for the love of God, people, please take 30 seconds to do some basic LinkedIn/Google/Twitter research before taking time to meet with someone... it's not that hard and it's an investment in the next 30 mins or so of meeting time
It’s official…

So much gratitude to my partners and to the founders in our portfolio for taking a chance on me. An honor of a lifetime to be working with you all--and we are just getting started! 🚀🌠
Just off a Zoom call with two founders. All three of us are daughters of immigrants who fled autocracy and persecution. All three of us are passionate about women's and pediatric health. And all three of us remarked at how special it is to have shared context to ground the chat.
every now and then i find myself comforted and inspired again re-reading “the man in the arena” by Teddy Roosevelt.
the gendered language may not have aged well, but the dust and sweat and blood is timeless.
Can we all *please* stop using the term "Fem Tech"? Women's health is human health, not some niche 'feminine' hobby.

Good night, 2020–good riddance—and may we soon be immune.
47 years ago today, my father escaped Iraq disguised as a 16-year old boy (he was 23). He fled to Syria, and then to Lebanon, and from there applied for a visa from the

Phew, this was a tough one to distill into a Twitter thread, and the fear I have for putting it out here is itself a reflection of the fundamental and entrenched issues underpinning the whole debate, but here we go. 🧵👇
When I joined Glossier in 2018, I was so excited to finally work for a woman CEO. It felt like an opportunity to challenge and expand traditional founder archetypes, in a way that would hopefully benefit the broader ecosystem. But the timing was…rough.

For most of my VC career, my undergraduate and graduate degrees in Middle East Studies were mostly irrelevant to my day job. But post 10/7, it seems “Middle East expert” is now a job requirement for VC, so perhaps those 6 years of studying the region may come in handy after all.
After visiting Cambridge last week, I asked my 5-year if she remembered the name of my alma mater.

Tl;dr: lots of work to be done. Despite another year of record VC capital deployment, funding to women founders actually went down. And it's worse for Black and Latinx women founders.

founders, please don’t outsource fundraising to bankers or your C-suite!
it’s just as important for you to evaluate chemistry with VCs as it is the other way around.

This is what conscience in politics looks like. Tremendously grateful to leaders like
@RoKhanna
for repudiating ignorant and contrived conspiracy theories and standing up for vulnerable and starved children. We need more American leaders joining him on the right side of history.
I will vote no on this bill that bans aid to children in Gaza who are dying of hunger. Forget the politics & procedural jargon. This is a test of first principles. The America I believe in must never be indifferent to the man made starvation of children.
Founders, don't write investors off because we're not shiny enough for you. Twitter followers and Clubhouse sessions are not going to help you on your cap table; you need values, empathy, transparency, and tenacity.

our school district just emailed us with an update that they will no longer be sending notices of contact exposures because there will be too many (estimating “hundreds per school per week”), and we should operate under the assumption that our kids are exposed daily.
