Christianity would change overnight if it put down the mantle of defending God and picked up the responsibility of loving enemies.

Covid is a revealing what the Church is about. Some Churches: "How do we deliver an excellent product that people need every week?" Other Churches: "How do we equip our people for loving their neighbors every week?"

I think Christianity should sit out the Culture Wars. It's really OK if we lose and let someone else win. We gotta ton of really important Jesus stuff to do that has nothing to do with triumphing, ruling, or governing.

1. Christianity started out in Palestine as a community. 2. Moved to Greece became a philosophy. 3. Went to Rome became an institution. 4. Spread to Europe became a government 5. Came to America became an enterprise. What might it take for us to return to community?

We have oversold the "personal relationship" with Christ. We've unintentionally cultivated a narcissistic, individualistic, self-help imagination for relating with God. In this framework God's mission is an afterthought, community is an addendum, and holiness is "stop sinning".
