A great point made here. Under the interpretation LaRose is using, the only candidates that should have qualified to appear on the 2020 ballot should have been Howie Hawkins (G) and Jo Jorgensen (L).

I respect Guru - but, he fails to mention in 2020 the RNC was on 8/24/2020 - why was this law passed in 2014 with the same SoS running the presidential election of 2020 allowed to happen at all? Are we having selective enforcement of this law? Why is it selective?

The fact that we are celebrating 38% turnout as being high is a sad state of affairs. Is it higher than just about anyone would have predicted? Yes. Does that make it any less troubling? Not really. A supermajority of voters simply didn't vote.

Just as I predicted in my April Senate testimony: The August Special Election had an amazing turnout of 38% and more than 3 million Ohio voters made their voices heard on Tuesday. Our state is great because of our engaged, patriotic citizens, something we should all be proud of

@BrianStewartOH They didn't reverse course in claiming the map is unconstitutional. They simply concluded constitutional compliance is impossible in the face of a commission hell bent on not following the constitution. Why should they expend resources litigating when even if they win, they lose?

How long will it take men to realize that issues occur during pregnancies and if their wife has an issue with her third pregnancy and cannot access life-saving care, he will be left widowed to raise his two children? Speaking as someone who would have been one of those children.

The "Ohio Model" of "representative democracy" involves ignoring the state constitution and over half a dozen court orders in a pursuit to unconstitutionally draw legislative districts to favor a political party. Tell me again how that "restore[s] faith" because you lost me...

I’m in DC this week talking to other states’ election officials and our Congressional leaders about Ohio’s innovative solutions to election security and voter confidence. The “Ohio Model” can help restore faith in our representative democracy nationwide.

On August 8, by a margin of 14%, Ohio voters rejected Issue 1, a Republican-backed proposed constitutional amendment to make future constitutional amendments harder to pass by (among other things) requiring at least a 60% majority of voters to approve future proposed amendments.

Perhaps the most troubling part of SCOTUS's Louisiana redistricting case today is the apparent inconsistent application of the Purcell Doctrine. In the Alabama Case, 106 days before the primary was too soon. In the Wisconsin case, 139 days wasn't. Today, 133 days is too soon.

Important takeaway from tonight. The Rulli family name carried Rulli to a 2% under performance in Mahoning County and a 13% under performance in Columbiana County. If those two looked anything like the 20-50 point underperformances elsewhere, Rulli wouldn't be going to Congress.
@DrewSav

@kkondik Basically Rulli's name rec across Mahoning Valley provided his entire margin. If the other candidate had won the primary, I think the Democrat would have won.

With unofficial tallies, Ohio voted just 0.08% less for pro-choice on Issue 1 than Michigan did its abortion rights amendment, Proposition 3, from last year. Once late-arriving absentees arrive and provisionals are counted, I would expect Ohio to end up being more pro-choice.

According to Ohio voter rolls, this person has been registered to vote since 1991 & has never voted (readily available records only go back to 2000). Despite their apparent death in 1999 & Ohio's frequent inactive voter purges, they're still on the rolls.

Any state house district that keeps Athens County (the only county in SE Ohio that still votes reliably—or at all—for Democrats) whole would have a >90% chance of electing a Republican these days. But that wasn't enough. The city of Athens had to be carved out. For why?

Frankly, the DNC should have done some homework before scheduling their convention (but also nothing relevant in Ohio law has changed since 2020, and it was fine then). Denying ballot access over this sort of thing is just the most asinine thing, especially to the average voter.
