[THREAD] @lucyfrazermp I grew up on a council estate where there was high rates of gun crime, drug use and drug dealing. Both my parents have spent time in prison. There was, therefore, more chance of me ending up in the dock as opposed to representing anyone else.

Today I was given a 30min lunch break and the court sat until 6.20pm! @HMCTSgovuk lay Magistrates really do need training in wellbeing. It’s not now, nor has it ever been acceptable to put that sort of pressure on advocates who do so much work outside the courtroom to begin with.

Twitter, I need your help. Today I took my pup Louie for his first walk along the Thames Path. As we approached Craven Cottage (for reasons unknown) Louie launched himself towards the river and fell about 100ft off a wall into a bed of mud and sludge (thankfully it was low tide)

Total humiliation this morning at Milton Keynes Magistrates Court @HMCTSgovuk @TheCriminalBar where I was forced to remove sanitary products from my bag by security in full view of members of the public and my client. Even after explaining I was a barrister and there for a case!

When I was the junior clerk at @DoughtyStPublic Judith Farbey QC had just taken silk. She heard that I wanted to be a barrister and came into the clerks room with her gown. She no longer needed a junior one so now I wear it every day! Huge congratulations to a wonderful woman.

2 Crown Court hearings tomorrow where I am required in person. Today I’ve developed a 38.1 temp & other symptoms. Shout out to my clerks & solicitor for categorically telling me to stay home! Makes difficult decisions a lot easier given @MoJGovUK & @HMCTSgovuk reckless position!

The prospect of joining the Bar, at times seemed unattainable; the cost of training (in excess of £18,000), the competitive nature of securing pupillage, and the perception that the profession is only open to a particular demographic, were all reasons to self-eliminate.

Motivation to practise as a criminal barrister is not linked to financial recompense, although it’s fair to say that on entering the profession I personally had an expectation that I would be fairly remuneratedand able to live comfortably once qualified.

Miraculously, the only thing Louie hurt was his pride but I was beside myself and struggling to work out how to get to him as he sunk further into the sludge. That was until this guy (Ollie) appeared out of nowhere and offered to climb down and retrieve him for me!

I have been waiting to join a CVP hearing since 10am. My client (who has a 1yo child) has also been waiting, but she’s sat at court. My fee for the day? £50. Minus chambers rent, minus tax, divided by the number of hours spent either waiting or on the phone/emailing = £5p/h!!!

When my instructing solicitor found out about the delay, she sent me lunch recommendations and told me to get it on her! There are lots of difficult things about this job but the camaraderie and kindness of those working in the criminal justice system is something else!

I asked to speak to a manager and was told he was too busy. A “supervisor” however, was there and responded to my complaint by shouting over to his security officers “well done guys, you’re doing a great job”.

I was pushed by a police officer whilst complying with his direction to walk the other way (to reduce the size of the kettle). In fact, he pushed me so hard I fell over. I’ve got a large and painful scab on my knee to prove it!

Police should avoid using force where possible & that is a good thing. However, the racist policing of BLM protests should be highlighted: @zedhas3 & I were standing w/ a crowd of black protestors who were not throwing punches & we were aggressively charged at & pushed by police.

I did my first PIP appeal in Sheffield last week and had to hold back the tears myself during the Tribunal. The DWP is not fit for purpose and the assessment process is a joke!

I didn't realise these pictures were of the same man... Keith Jones, aged 66, was refused PIP and died two days before winning his appeal. After the assessment he struggled with depression & stress, weighing just six stone when he passed away
