My Showreel from Scratch Service for Professional Actors 📽️
✅ Completely Unique Scripts
✅Fun, fully directed shoot day.
✅ Full Edit within weeks of filming.
I know actors who are regulars on TV who aren't happy.
I know other actors whose biggest project was a play above a pub that only 7 people saw, yet it filled their heart with joy.
When you view everyone's reels and feel left behind, just remember every journey is unique. 1/4
@ZubyMusic
I was going for a run a few weeks back, a guy was out in his front garden, in a mask.
As I passed his house he dived back towards his home in this over-the-top Chaplinesque way and shouted "wear a mask" at me.
I was outdoors, not on his property, in fact quite far away. Weird
Actors/writers/directors and others in this mad industry.
I'm gonna do a virtual zoom coffee every morning this week with five creatives who I don't know.
Just a chance for a gentle catch up/gossip, hopefully lift some morale of those involved.
Respond if interested!
Actor with NO showreel footage or very very bad showreel footage?
I'm going to do a 40 minute chat on Zoom tomorrow at 2PM with eight actors, talking about how you can do work at home that goes beyond 'bland self-tape'.
Respond here and I'll choose at random by 9pm tonight.
Actors - send me your showreels🎥
I'm going to spend a few hours today watching & commenting on what I like and/or any quick fixes I think could punch up your reels.
& maybe do zoom calls with 1 or 2 of you if it's useful.
Share your reels - let's get ready for post-lockdown.
When an actor is struggling to figure out their casting type, one useful question I ask is:
Are you better playing strong characters who have a weakness -
or
Are you better at playing vulnerable characters who are called on to show strength?
Knowing the answer can be helpful.
Who is an actor you know personally who you think deserves more recognition?
Please share their reel or Spotlight.
Share someone you know who genuinely deserves more exposure, not yourself!
Actors/writers/directors/producers.
This past week I have been doing virtual coffees with five creatives who I don't know, every single morning.
Have met great minds and kind hearts from all around the world.
Doing it again next week, 9am UK time. Respond if interested!
I need 8 actors who've not had the opportunity or resources to gain showreel footage.
I'll run a Zoom Workshop on Oct 1st about creating a scene on your own, with just your phone.
On Oct 2nd, a workshop about filming - and then later that day you film your own scene.
Actors! Casting via Twitter!
I have some comedy sketches that I want to film on Zoom - let's experiment!
If you fancy collaborating, tweet me an example of your comedy acting. Or feel free to self-tape the character below (any gender) and @ me the vid.
Let's have fun!
Actors! Up your self-tape game with these lights! 🔆💡
I am giving away a light + stand x2.
To win, RT this and I'll pick two at random tomorrow eve at 8pm.
Must be able to pick up in East London.
Every career is different.
It is not a competition.
The goal is to be creative. Find People who speak your creative language, who make you laugh, who inspire you - go make things with them.

I'm delighted to announce that despite most of the industry being quiet..
I have been hired for EVERY FILM AND TV JOB OUT THERE.
I am so humbled. I'm honoured. I wouldn't even share it but I'm doing it to show you can too!
I need to get work done.
No, actually I need to relax and watch a movie.
No, I need to daydream, truly let go.
No actually I need to study and learn. Focus.
No, I need to create new opportunities.
No, I need to sleep.
No, I need to tweet.
No.
I don't know.
Written a short comedy mockumentary about dead people who turn up 2 years after death in Ilford, Essex.

Nathan, 20's
Raj, 50's
Mildred, 60's
Actors if you enjoy being involved in experimental mayhem, tweet me your reels!
Many years ago I used to film Holocaust survivors giving talks in schools.
Just stumbled across this clip. A young person asks survivor Steven Frank, 'do you hate Hitler?'
His response, and his thoughts on hate, seem very relevant right now.
10 tips that will reinvigorate your acting showreel.
A thread.
1. If you have one great scene and three terrible scenes, then your reel needs to have only one scene.
I've interviewed casting director
@chaseparis
(Stranger Things, Ozark, Atlanta).
This is a MUST READ for actors.
We talk through showreels, self-tapes, getting first screen opportunities, and building towards bigger roles.
We also talk about the Emmy.

I've been working with reels for 15 years 👴
I've created showreel material for

I've written about reels for

Let's do this!
I want to release a series of short terrible stories written by me 1995-1996 (I was 10 / 11) as video monologues.
If any actors want to ruin their reputations on a hilarious project, get in touch! 😅😅😅😅
Thinking of doing a Zoom reading with actors of some of my old feature length screenplays.
They're very first drafty, almost embarrassingly so, written by early-20's me.
But I'm interested to see if they're worth re-exploring.
The nature of living in big cities, working in an industry where supply is bigger than demand; means we often feel small, unsuccessful.
But we often chase the wrong success. Obsessed with credits, money, followers.
Real success is doing things you love.

I've just written a TV Pilot.
Any actors near East London fancy a read through tomorrow? Will be at 4.30pm.
I wrote it in one week! May not be a masterpiece but at least it's fresh new material!
You might think a Netflix credit is the key to joy, but it might not be. It might make you less happy.
You could go your whole career never 'breaking through' (whatever that means), but you find joy doing improv with friends, or short films with a cohort of acquaintances.

Actors! Tomorrow morning from 10-11am I'm going to watch as many reels on here as I can and give feedback/opinions/tips!
Share a link if you want me to watch yours! 🎥🤓
Watched a LOT of showreel scenes this morning --
Main thing I realise is; you don't always need heaps of perfect scenes---
You need one piece that really captures you.
We watch it, we sense your essence, and we know how to cast you.
Work towards that piece!
Ask a famous actor what their favourite project was. It probably won't be the Hollywood movie or Netflix credit.
It'll be the play they did in front of 14 people 22 years ago.
'Success' is often measured by numbers & industry approval.
But true success is enjoying what you do.
5 tips 4
@ShowreelShare
day.
1. If insecure about material, use less, not more!
2. Make it very obvious who you are in 1st scene.
3. Having scene with a famous person is less important than seeing you ACT!
4. Quiet moments better than loud.
5. Relax. This reel isn't forever.
Actors! Today I am doing a
#CastingTypesWorkout
on Twitter.
I'll share ideas, give out short scripts you can self-tape & analyse, & I'll be doing zoom sessions.
I don't have all the answers but I think some of these tools will help you find answers regarding casting types.
@galjudo
I do a thing called a 'power hour'. Can be alone, or with a friend.
The theory is:
If you give solid attention for a full hour,
You can get any task done.
Sure, "you can't do a PhD in one hour."
But you can do more with an hour of focus than three weeks of coasting.
ACTORS!
I'm giving away THREE copies of my book 'How to Build a Great Acting Showreel' for FREE tonight.
TO ENTER: Respond with REALLY BAD SHOWREEL ADVICE.
I'll pick 3 funny people late tonight.
Please only enter if you genuinely want the tools to improve your reel! 📖
After a showreel shoot yesterday, I kept the actors around and wrote a 33 second comedy sketch.
The actors learned it in five minutes, then we shot it in just a few takes.
I put it up on Tik Tok and now it has 500,000 views.
Tik Tok has changed everything for creators.
Creatives! Next week I am bringing back the virtual coffees - a chance to Zoom with like minds without a specific agenda.
This isn't about professional gain, but professional connection.
If you fancy being part of a 30 minute zoom, respond here!
Hear me out - instead of going to a therapist, hire an actor to be a therapist. Don't give them training in psychotherapy, just let them react to their clients. They didn't do years of acting training for nothing!
Hear me out - instead of casting actors to play therapists on screen, hire therapists to play therapists. Don’t give us a script just let us react to the actor. We didn’t do years of role play in graduate programs for nothing!
Before the end of October I'm going to make two Zero-Budget short films with actor friends.
I love creating shorts like this because the only thing to do is lead with creativity.
Film may be shit, may be great. Only thing I can guarantee is it'll be a piece of me.
I got a few actor friends together a week ago and we made some comedy sketches for Tik Tok.
Had over 2 million views in 7 days.
We can keep worrying about the gatekeepers of the industry, or we can leverage social media to build our own following.
Either route is valid.
Luck helps.
Talent is useful.
But the key markers of success in all the people I've met are:
-Work-ethic
-Perseverance
-Supportive of others
-Project Completion Rate
Spotlight is the hub of British casting.
But does it have to be?
Could something better be invented?
Been speaking to CD's, agents & actors about this.
"It's what we have" seems to be the consensus, rather than "it's what we need."
Could we make something better?
I've learned a lot about screen acting from 15 years of short film directing and through my showreels business.
I want to teach what I know, but have never offered this directly before.
I'm offering a FREE workshop with a group of four actors on Feb 17th. Interested?
@ZubyMusic
I am more on the liberal side politically, and the atheist side, spiritually.
However, I feel that my side is far more rude, self-righteous, and judgemental.
So a lot of people I'm close to hold the opposite beliefs to me. Funny eh?
Actors! For the next hour (11am-12pm) I will watch showreels and tweet back thoughts/advice/tips that may improve them!
Tweet me a link to your reel - will get through as many as I can!
(And if you don't have a reel but have questions about them I'll try answer those too!)
Creatives!
I am bringing back my virtual coffee's, 2pm weekdays.
Looking for: 5 actors/writers/producers/directors/musicians etc every day who I've never met before.
We'll zoom for 30 minutes & make new friends.
Respond if interested, I'll pick at random!

Being self-employed is hard. Constant rejection.
For self-esteem, I created my own 'Best Employee' award, and I'm delighted to announce I made it to the final shortlist.
London based actors with native Manchester / Liverpool accents, please give me a wave.
Just contemplating some ideas and would be good to have a glance at your Spotlights. Thanks!
Creatives:
You do a great job hiding how exhausted you are.
And a great job bouncing back from all the near misses, the broken promises, the rejections.
And you're amazing for sticking at it, even when it feels like no-one outside of yourself sees your talent.
Stay you!
Had numerous actors message me in recent days saying they've had 1-2-1's with casting directors who have specifically praised their showreels, which I created.
Despite doing this for a living - sometimes insecurities/unsureness creep in about what I do, so this feedback helps!
Don't let your career be defined by the people who ask you:
"When will you make it?"
Or
"When will I see you on TV?"
Let it be defined by you asking yourself:
"Did I enjoy this project?"
Or
"Did I feel creative?"
You can't survive living by other people's metrics.
@FitFounder
Couldn't disagree more.
Traditions bring communities together..
Traditions are cultural landmarks passed down through generations.
A culture with no traditions is meaningless.
Hey
@noelfielding11
thanks for the random act of kindness today letting a lost actor jump in a black cab with you this morning - helped keep our shoot on schedule!
I have close friends on all sides of the political spectrum.
Everyone's beliefs come from what they think is the right way.
The internet makes it seem like there is only far right racists and far left wokists.
The best people see nuance, and know no theory is absolute.
I absolutely love this.
That pub, that Chinese, that whole era means so much to me.
My grandparents lived directly behind it, my Aunt still does.
@DFletcherArtist
captures something I feel in the way no other artist does.
The first thing I am going to shoot from the casting call I put out yesterday is the full version of the vegan sketch and I'm gonna do it with
@izzy_kabban
.
The way she performed it really captured what I wrote and makes me excited to work together on the longer piece!
I'm making a short comedy called 'A Productive Lockdown'.
Two characters, shoots in a day. Both characters 25-35ish, somewhere around there.
Casting below:
NEW RELEASE! My short film: 'A Productive Lockdown'.
No-crew, no-funding, no-problem.
A truly independent film made with Jay Sutherland,

Just found out my TV Pilot script 'Be Careful' is a finalist in the
@BigAppleFilm
Festival.
This is a dream festival for me to be involved in - excited to have made it this far!
Me directing actors: Feel free to overlap each other, cut each other off. It makes it more natural.
Me editing: WHY ARE THEY TALKING OVER EACH OTHER, STOP IT.
The Man Who Didn't Know It Was a Lockdown.
All
@Jacko_Bradley
wanted to do was go to the

A bit of lockdown themed comedy, featuring

, written & directed by me!
Watching through lots of self tapes for a project - the camera or backdrop is almost irrelevant for me. You're just looking for that spark, that person who 'gets' the script.
I wrote a book!
'How to Build a Great Acting Showreel'
I've gained a lot of knowledge over the years from working with hundreds of actors and building relationships with agents and casting directors. So I've put it all in this book!
Pre order now!
Here's how I released an ebook:
I wrote it in word.
Used a free app to convert it for Kindle.
Uploaded it on the Kindle store.
When it sells, I get 70% of the profit.
No gatekeepers, nothing stopping me.
I highly recommend doing it!
Work with people who you believe in.
Work with people who believe in you.
Simple, but easily forgotten.
We've been sold the myth that creative types are complicated or difficult - but if you work with like-minded souls with shared values, you can do great things.
If you're an international actor in the UK - you've probably been told you'll work as:
Prostitute
Criminal
Exotic Love Interest
Terrorist
I apologise on behalf of our industry for the way we lack imagination and stereotype.
We are responsible for changing this.
Hey young actors,
When you're starting out there'll be some 'producer' on Mandy or some place with no credits, no info, and no script.
He'll tell you his horror film will be great for experience and exposure.
It won't.
This isn't the opportunity you're hoping for.
I'm gonna share tips on how to write a 10 Minute film.
And I'll speak for only 10 minutes.
(I know what a snorefest long zoom workshops can be)
Respond if interested. Will pick up to 15 people at random.
Workshop on January 11th.

Can't beat that feeling! 🎥
Just spent the morning working in a library.
Then borrowed a book.
Why don't we use libraries more often?
A magical place, free knowledge, the antidote to Instagram.
I need to make this a habit.
I'm married now 🤓♥️
2 week trip to USA with friends and family, the most incredible time.
Haven't thought about short films or showreels or Tik Tok sketches in two weeks, feel refreshed and ready to work! 🎥📝 🤓

Sitting down and doing the work is productivity.
Chilling out, resting, having fun, are also key parts of productivity.
Being lost between work-and-rest while berating yourself for not being good enough is not productivity.
On Friday I did a workshop on short film writing for creatives who've not written a script before.
Not only did they write scripts, they were all hit by moments of unexpected creativity.
The myth of waiting for the right idea is nonsense.
Ideas comes to those who are writing!
When a friend finally gets a film/tv credit, it really is the most magical thing.
It's like a weight lifts from them.
The years of rejection.
The near misses.
All the doubts that clouded them for years suddenly clear.
It's the best thing!
During Covid I did many writing workshops helping creatives write their 1st short films (the ones they've been putting off).
Thinking I could do the same for MAKING your first short.
Anyone be interested in this?
Can help you with the tools to ditch excuses and get shooting!🎥
Directed a short film today.
11 page script, shot in one day.
A little passion project, the first in a long while. Felt good!

1. Have a scene that shows a piece of YOU.
2. Find nuance.
3. That scene you think is already short, make shorter.
4. The scene everyone says you don't need, you probably don't need.
5. If two scenes do same thing, ditch one.
You are still creative.
Despite a childhood where they suggested you stop daydreaming.
And the teens where you didn't fit in.
And adulthood when everyone got a 'real' job.
You're still you.
Not everyone can do that.
KEEP CREATING!
It's rare to meet a bad actor in this industry.
But it's common to meet an actor who's been given so much conflicting advice that they've lost all sense of what their strengths are.
@soho_jan
My status was originally posted as a piece of fun-- but of course, it has shone a light on how badly people are often treated.
Thanks for sharing, and sorry you had that experience.
You have to get good at handling rejection in film/TV/theatre, everyone knows that.
But even worse is the more nuanced rug pull.
When you're chosen, then it's taken back.
This is even more painful than a straight rejection.
Have you experienced this?
Any creatives interested in being part of a small group in January where we commit to a month of personal targets?
You'll do your own work but together we'll hold each other accountable for committing to our creative goals.
I started out creating showreel scenes by accident.
Then I started to enjoy the creativity of it.
Then came the inner-shame, I was the 'reel' guy and not the filmmaker I wanted to be.
But then I saw how it helps actors, gets them work.
And now I enjoy it more than ever.
