Painter interested in pockets of life that we ignore every day; places that are still or have been inhabited. Shortlisted for the ES Contemporary Art Prize 2017
For 40yrs on & off, I tried but failed to get work selected for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. This year I’m pleased to say they made an exception with this painting ‘Mother & Child, Plaistow Station’. Thank you for your support

The very first painting I sold in 1976, No record and not seen since. Out of blue purchaser made contact at weekend. In the intervening years, it’s lived all over USA and now resides in Toronto. Delighted to see image of it!

My work ‘Corner Shop, Canning Town’ should be featuring somewhere in the story-line of BBC EastEnders on 4th February (or around that date). Very curious as to how it will be used. Will catch it on IPlayer!

BBC report Staffs had a mini-earthquake. How would these houses in Newcastle-u-Lyme have fared? They looked solid in 1975 but, sadly were torn down by town planners shortly after I completed this painting.

Just said farewell to ‘Snooker Club’ 2nd time. 1st time was in 1988. Lost track for decades until a couple bought it at auction last year, weather-beaten & dirty. So pleased to have freshened it up for them.

Leslie’s, Turner Road 1984. Lost touch with this work once sold. Digitised from slide. Sliced white bread & chicory coffee were shop’s specialities, closed after a break-in to steal Mr Kipling’s cakes!

The proprietor of Callegari’s went on holiday in the early 1990s’s leaving a note in the window. In 2016 the sign was still there, barely legible. Frank never came back !

London Borough of Greenwich is to ban Ice Cream Vans in 30 streets on account of noise, fume pollution and queue disturbance. Hope this isn’t the start of meltdown to the end of an era 🍦Long live the 99!

I tripped on Charlie’s lead resulting in a knee fracture & ligament damage. Despite the pain I think the people working in NHS are wonderful, treating me at 5am after a busy Night Shift with care and respect. Walking Charlie is now a no-no, but cuddling him is a prescribed must.

The Gun on Isle of Dogs. When it rained the extension overlooking the river leaked, buckets catching the drips. Frequented by locals & artists. Now you have to book a table to enjoy ‘pan fried cod loin’.

Painting after eye op diagnosed/cured by NHS. Private High St chain failed to notice, refer me, offered only thicker lenses £$€, but I knew something was wrong! Now 1 yr on I see perfect again. Lucky? Yes, my country has the NHS. Please vote for the NHS
