Wandered into a Manhattan bar for a drink, took the only seat at the bar, ended up having a long, fascinating conversation w a 92 year old gentleman next to me (first question: What do u think happens when we die?), rite at the end of our conversation I realize: this is Duane
I’d like, as a full-time lifer music person, to give a musical Oscar shout out to someone I’ve not seen properly ‘propped’:
Finneas O’Connell.
He is a producer’s producer, making great record after great record with his sister
@billieeilish
, and being exactly
Julian Lennon "Too Late For Goodbyes" (1984)
I totally think this song could pass as an early Beatles song.
I prefer this song to most of Paul's solos 🤷🏻♀️
From his album, Valotte.
Reached
#5
on the US singles chart.
Don’t kno how many of yall have ever seen this show but the Eddie Van Halen-style guitar dive bombs & stuff that’s under all the car chases? That’s me. lol
This little guy seems to have flown in to a room of my house and unbeknownst been trapped there, ultimately settlin on this flowered chair and dying there. 😓
How about a moment for this beautiful little creature
At the time of ‘Bev Hills Cop’ Bronson was my neighbor 2 doors down, up behind the Hollywood Bowl. Real nice guy. I could never get him to recreate the voice tho. Even when drunk. :)
@StewartTuttle
A demo is a demonstration of what the real version can be.
An unfinished real version is a bounce or a “rough”.
Sometimes demos or roughs get used (released) because they’re dope. :)
Maybe it’s how fast they recorded it, maybe it’s the nervous energy of making their first album. Maybe it’s John’s cold! Or maybe it’s like rewatching a classic film, and we now know how this whole story ends. But, in both sound and feeling, there is no Beatles album like it.
My Mom was so afraid of me pursuing music as my livelihood, “It’s so unstable, and inconsistent!” (She was the executive assistant at a Tecumseh Motors factory in Tupelo, Mississippi).
2 years later Tecumseh moved their factory to Mexico, and she was fired. About the same time,
The words- the lyrics to a pop song- totally matter, every word, every nuance. It’s not that they don’t matter, it’s that they matter in context with the music, the complete picture, the SONG.
Poems are words alone, Lyrics are part of a song. 🤷🏻♂️

I had a friend in DC who wrote songs for his band. He was stressing over a particular word in a middle verse. I told him, "That's ok; no one listens to the words, anyway." I've never seen anyone look so disappointed, and I regret having said that to him, 40 years later.
just listen to how much FIRE there is underneath that effortless POCKET 💥
music just doesn't get better than this: hook, groove, lyric.... there's Mini Moog and Beach Boys bgs, ffs!!!!
RIP to the late David Sanborn, who navigated the avant-garde underground & smooth jazz mainstream alike. He hosted Hal Willner's late night NBC music show Night Music. Here's one of my favorites, a take on "Thembi" with Pharoah Sanders.

There are four pools of non-actors you can reliably pull from to get good to great performances: wrestlers, directors, country singers, and pornstars (actual ones).
I was sittin w my dogs havin coffee yesterday, listening to a batch of songs just sent to me by an artist….. and unbeknownst to me, I was drawn.
Pretty good, don’t you think? 🎧
The only term I have for it is corny, but…
There are only two guitarists of the Rock Era who could touch the sky. Who could leave the realm of tethered to how things are and get untethered, into the rarified air above. And they were
Jimi Hendrix and Duane Allman.
This is how Jupiter protects Earth. It acts as a gatekeeper for our planet, preventing most asteroids from entering the inner orbits of the solar system.
Somewhere around the year 2000 I was taken line dancing to some joint outside Fayetteville, AK…. Roughly 50/50 white/black crowd, line dancing to 50% country, 50% hip hop.
I saw the FUTURE that night….. :)
It's a mistake to think that wearing slim-fit clothes makes you look slimmer. Or that everyone has to conform to some trend. A better approach is to dress for your body type. Look at the relationship between Jackie Gleason's jacket and pants.

George Orwell on his creative process:
"Writing a book is a horrible, exhausting struggle, like a long bout with some painful illness. One would never undertake such a thing if one were not driven on by some demon whom one can neither resist nor understand."
In loving memory of Donald "Duck" Dunn (Bassist/Songwriter/Record Producer/Session Musician; Associated Acts: The Blues Brothers (1978-1982), Booker T. & the M.G.'s (1965-2012), The Mar-Keys (1958-1962)

With all the love I see for Pearl Jam's new album, which was released almost 33 years after their debut, it got me wondering...
What other artist/band had a great resurgent album WAY after their musical peak? 🤔
My pick: Bruce Springsteen "Letter To You"
@RadioFreeTom
I’m Only Sleeping is upwards of 10x better than Seasons In The Sun- this is not debatable.
“We had joy we had fun we had lots of chewing gum”
vs
“Please, don't spoil my day
I'm miles away
And after all
I'm only sleeping”?
Please, indeed.
Love how the strengths of the band are all crackin here, live n all: Plant’s vocals, Bonzo’s drumming (note how the fills are busier live tho), and Jimmy Page’s guitar playing. 🔥🔥🔥
Led Zeppelin performing “Kashmir” to a sea of over 100,000 at Knebworth Festival in 1979.
Recorded in 1974 at Headley Grange, this epic masterpiece found its home on the iconic double album, ‘Physical Graffiti.’
This song was a defining milestone for the band, all four
"I’m very crude, I use things we hear around us all the time, built and found instruments-things that aren’t normally considered instruments: dragging a chair across the floor or hitting the side of a locker real hard with a two-by-four...
