Playing silly games with Google Maps, looking for the longest route by car it can still calculate (many East Asian destinations don't work) - is this it? Also learned that driving from Germany to Capetown takes 7 days while to Kabul it's only 3. Vacation planning made easy ...;-)

My first chance to go look for comet #NEOWISE from 51.4°N in Witten, Germany, this morning - and it WAS SO EASY! Naked eye, tail included, for some 35 minutes in astronomical and nautical twilight - and what a beauty, a 'real' comet. Facts and pics:

Here's the video from @NSFspox of the Arecibo Observatory collapsing. Engineers were surveying damage and got "lucky" the drone was in this position. No one was hurt.

Stars over Münsterschwarzach Abbey tonight - taken from a guesthouse window with a Chinese €120 cellphone in 'Pro' mode: 30 seconds at ISO 3200 and f/1.79, white balance Sun, focus not quite infinity (the stars are closer here, apparently :-). Count me impressed ...

There is a *new* @SpaceX webcast now at that tracks the #FalconHeavy second stage - and sometimes (as here minutes ago) shows the Starman ... with the Earth behind him!

Breaking News, literally! There is a star explosion under way in Perseus (near Capella in Auriga actually), with 6th magnitude - and it could be a unique nova eruption happening to a known dwarf nova, V392 Persei: in I show a chart and provide some links.

As JAXA reports today in #SLIM can indeed claim full 'extra success' (beyond the full success already established by 25 January): after awakening the lander managed to take another mosaic and numerous images of individual rocks with the Multi-Band camera.
