S/o to the dude tripping balls last night who hijacked the merch table and tried to sell shirts for double the price while we were on stage, then handed me a wad of money at the end of night and said “I’m a hero”
If they remade American Psycho in 2024, Patrick Bateman would be obsessed with Vampire Weekend. It’s textbook sociopath music; so uniquely devoid of any humanity or feeling that only a person who’s sole pleasure was derived from inflicting pain on others could possibly enjoy it
I’ll add that the dude then wanted me to sign his Jerry shirt which he found at goodwill. I reluctantly signed the bottom of his shirt - which took the value of his garment from $200 to $20. He did not care.
Every band I know that has gone out in the past 4 months has caught covid and had to cancel their dates/ take a big financial hit. If nobody cares about catching covid/won't mask and venues won't enforce vax requirements, what are artists to do?
Any time a venue asks for a merch cut I point at a different member of wand and say “he’s gonna settle with you”. Then they go to them and they say“weird, I don’t have the numbers, x should have it” then they go to them… we exhaust them mentally, run them in circles
If you are a musician who is struggling financially and still haven’t achieved the success you’d like to have it’s probably because your music is actually good
I, like most working musicians I know, have struggled with depression. Still I’ve somehow managed through it all to have never send one dick pic to a fan
This is so sad. I just saw Steve backstage at the Elysian theater in December for his Letters to Santa show with his wife Heather. There really never was a sweeter kinder soul, not to mention his amazing work, his studio and legacy. He was a great guy
Yeah "My Sweet Lord" is super thin. It's only got 2 drummers, 8 guitarists, 2 bassists, a full orchestra, 10 Krishna singers, a harmonized slide line, 4 acoustic guitars, 3 auto harps, 3 tambourine players
I actually quite like my sweet lord the song, but it’s quite funny to imagine having a hit with as thin a song, how that would feel - it really is a brittle twig this song, hardly zilch to it, lawsuit notwithstanding there is not much to this little tune
I don't like the internet. It's just my personal taste. I don't like twitter, instagram or facebook. I don't even like shopping here - would rather go to the mall. I dislike streaming, news, pretty much the whole thing. I only use this to promote my records. Thanks.
Dear Promoters, remember when getting posters made and putting them up around town was a thing? It worked for 50+ years before meta ads. Pretty well too
The doomsday clock is at 90 seconds to midnight and the earths climate is falling apart. Quit your job and do whatever the hell you want with your life. Have fun, play music, laugh with old friends. Get into outrageous credit debt. And break as many laws as you can
Every album release is an illusion of either failure or success. In 5, 10, 20 years down the road will the thing have legs? Will people still listen? Will it appreciate? The least important time in a records life is the year it came out
My vampire weekend American psycho joke tweet has gotten out of hand. I’m now getting death threats. Though if you’re willing to murder and go to jail for VW then you are proving my point exactly.
That’s cool you wanna take a percentage of records you didn’t make, shirts you didn’t print, etc but we brought all these people here and they are buying your booze so…
SXSW is one of the great superstitions of DIY based rock music - like hiring a PR person to get you press. There's absolutely 0 proof that it works, and you definitely don't have to do it. But there's worse things you could do. Like hiring a manager
Also if you’re a promoter/run socials for a venue - see this and think “how absurd why the fuck would we give you a cut of the bar” now you know what it feels like!
Today's a great day to drop Spotify and get a Tidal subscription where you can listen to master quality recordings, have a better song selection and artists get 4x more pay
I would like to thank everyone who has shared love for Wand/Vertigo. When we first hit record we were 3 lads in a studio with 0 prepared music. A year later ended the session as a quartet with a 40 minute LP. Seeing people resonate with our little leap is heartening. Thank u
Musicians have it bad sure, no job security, bad streaming rates, dangerous travel job(even pre-Covid). Yet, if I spent one week working a salaried position w full benefits at a desk I would throw myself out a fucking window
I made an album about electric guitars, highway killers, giant insects, mall vampires, airline revenge, warring angels, whale watching, amplifier circuits, twin genomics, frogs, suburban horror, ghost pirates and In N Out Burger. You can listen here:
Wand LP 6 “Vertigo” is out July 26th on
@dragcityrecords
. Listen to the first single “Smile” below, and watch the video by Connor Clarke.
You can listen and pre-order the record here 👇
I blame
@dragcityrecords
They wanted a single, I said the albums done it's called "driving through heaven". So I wrote Western Cum. All of a sudden the record's called Western Cum, the single's called Western Cum, I'm the "Western Cum guy", RIGHT? If I'm lyin' im dyin'
Not enough people talking about Zone of Interest. An anti-fascist masterpiece. Glazer hasn't said much about Gaza directly, but this film speaks with a depth worlds beyond a celeb liking a tweet. It is a timeless window into the shrinking hearts of those who thrive in genocide
If you had heard Western Cum you would know not only is the guitar riff healthy and very much alive but it is also constantly ejaculating everywhere all the time
Because the majors destroyed their own vinyl manufacturing plants in order to accelerate the CD/digital era, creating an indie vinyl renaissance that they are now trying to jam with new and old releases… that’s why I think majors shouldn’t be allowed to press vinyl
The question is not “how do bands enforce masks at shows when no one else will?” The question is “what do we do now in a world that has moved on from Covid without considering the health and financial vulnerability of touring musicians?”
We set out to make a live record and somehow, accidentally made our best record. “Spiders in the Rain” out 10/28 on
@dragcityrecords
.
Listen to the 20 minute supercut of “White Cat” below
The campaign to apply public pressure to
@pitchfork
to review my new record has begun. It has been sitting in their review pile for a week now. Go on folks kindly remind the nice fork people that new independent music matters
I want to apologize to all my followers for speaking out on Palestinian genocide. I have been informed by reliable sources that I in fact have a “white savior complex” and am just virtue signaling for clout. I’m so sorry
I guess when you have a double set with a liquid light show people are gonna trip balls and end up hijacking your merch table and selling at double the price. Like life forms on planet earth, this was inevitable.
My record Western Cum is out now. I am sitting at a diner in Sutherland Oregon waiting patiently to be served 2 eggs over medium with hashbrowns and a small orange juice. I have been waiting for some time and it has put me in a cranky mood but I am still happy my record is out
I am very excited to announce that Western Cum will have several collectible color editions: ebony, noir, charcoal, and onyx. These colors will be randomly assigned to stores along with the normal "black" vinyl. Below are the different colors choices
I know so many great bands who lose money on every tour just to play their music because they are convinced the art matters. Surprisingly, none of those bands post their tour receipts…
I remember being 15 in the back seat of my best friends sisters internet boyfriends camry. Tago Mago on deck. That mysterious music; backwards lines about mushroom clouds as we drove past tommy burger, in n out, liquor stores on las tunas, the car turning dark red. RIP Damo
My 93 y/o grammy had her copy of PHR delivered via
@dragcityrecords
to her home in Norfolk, VA. As you can see, she's just as beautiful today as the youthful portrait behind her. She's watched all the music videos, and loves the Limited Hangouts. Love you Grammy!
I’m leaving this acct. ill keep it up here for however long this platform lasts as a remnant of my triumphant run on twitter. We had a lot of fun but no more X for cory. It’s just too corny. Bye bye -Cory
I want to be as big as the king gizzard lizard wizard band. I think I deserve that at the very least. I would like bros to raise their plastic cups when I do a guitar solo. I will settle for being as big as war drugs but think gizzard would be better fandom. Like kiss army
like the rest of you, i promptly wrote off greta van fleet on first listen in 2017. but unlike the rest of you, yesterday i took a stroll through the last few gvf singles and videos, and i'm here to report that i'm kinda sold. my malice was misdirected
Wand are internet shy. We prefer to touch grass, drink water from a rushing stream, dream beneath the stars... In 2024 we are only just beginning to understand websites, so we made one.
Last night a gentleman bought a copy of Western Cum at the merch table and told me : “this things got more hooks than a tacklebox” which is my favorite review yet
I was just at their show in LA and the lot had no grilled cheese, nitrus, doses, wooks, sober punks, online ceramics etc… and they didn’t jam once. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. They’re not a jam band. They had Fred armisen on 2nd drums, a critical mistake.
Yo La Tengo frequently covers the Grateful Dead and they once toured with Trey Anastasio. I can only assume you can get a grilled cheese sandwich in the parking lot outside of their shows.
the thing about taylor swift is that she so perfectly encapsulates through her lyrics, the interior lives of women. It's why we all can't stop listening. We're all saying, "wait you felt that way? we were all feeling this way?"
do men have someone like that?
The biggest indie controversy that nobody wants to talk about, but those of us who were around in 2011 can all confirm is that Grimes and Ariel Pink are the same person.
I’ve thought a lot about this… and the future of guitar music is def 16 yo boys finger smacking/two hand hammering ovation acoustic guitars at lunch break on tik tok
A lot of ‘music fans’ have been asking me “what is the best way to put money directly into the artist’s pocket?”. And to me it seems the best way is to just give them money. Not for records or t-shirts but simply out of love

@kayla_itasca
's stunning new album Imitation of War, her first in 5 years, is out today, streaming & in shops worldwide. It’s truly one of the most sheerly lovely records we’ve released.
LISTEN/BUY here:
When people mess with the merch table it really pisses me off. It’s clear that even w best intentions - fans possess little to 0 understanding and respect for this work space. Women get harassed, things get stolen - it sucks. What the hell guys
WAND is on out tour this week. We will be playing new songs. We have a new audio-reactive visual show that may give you vertigo (it gave me vertigo). Tix on sale now
I miss LA DIY venues. There used to be a zillion. Each had their own bubble of bands - all these micro scenes. There are still a few but it is sad how unsexy DIY has become and how much control entertainment giants like live nation and AEG have over culture in LA
9/11 levels of racism and Islamophobia going around. I understand it’s easier to have a “they’re barbarians raping women and beheading children” war narrative but it’s now just debunked baseless racism
I'm not even saying "mask up". If the vibe is "idgaf" then let the bands play with covid, if you're in the room without a mask - covid is def in the room with you regardless of what the covid status of the band is
I think I’m close to the crossroads. If anyone can help me pinpoint the precise location. I have been called “underrated” for long enough and am ready, Satan
“NOOO the minorities in my neighborhood who’ve lived here for generations are lighting off fireworks and upsetting the dog I got from a shelter without researching the breed - now I have to get an air bnb in Ojai with a jacuzzi/pool and go wine tasting while working remotely!!”
Israel has run out of Hamas outposts to bomb so they’ve moved on to hospitals, ambulance caravans, elementary schools, power plants and the only open border crossing (now closed indefinitely) In a few days they’ll be dropping bombs on a mass graveyard
calls for nonviolence are absurd if they are directed only at the oppressed and come from a government that sends billions in armaments to the oppressing government
