I'm so sorry to report some very sad news... Another astronaut hero has left us, - Ken Mattingly, who flew to the moon on #Apollo16 , has died at 87 - He piloted Apollo 16 and commanded the shuttle. But he may be best known for the mission he didn't fly: the ill-fated Apollo 13.

July 21, 1969 after spending a total of 21 h, 36min, 21 sec on the surface of The Moon, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin fired the rocket engine of the LM’s Ascent Stage. Three hours and forty minutes later, the Eagle ascent stage docked with Columbia, the CSM, in lunar orbit.

1/3 #Apollo15 almost came to ruin the second it touched down (july 30, 1971). #NASA had strict rules about how sharp an angle was safe for a LEM landing, and a 15-degree slope was the absolute maximum. Any steeper and liftoff could be compromised.
