Final 24 board Last 3 years are up there for comparison I prefer 2-way players w playoff viability who have a chance to be in the top 8-10 of a Finals team. I might prefer elite role players w size to smaller guards with scoring punch who lose value deep in playoffs.

I cannot, for the life of me, understand why Ron Holland is ranked so low by some people. I get that he has some issues, but everybody in this draft has issues. All these dudes need to iron a lot of stuff out. The stuff he already does at his age, with his tools is legit good

Jarace vs Hendricks For me, I take the guy that has the defense, size, AND ball skills. Yes, Hendricks projects to shoot, and sure, we’re not sure if Jarace will… But ball skills REALLY matter in the league, & I think Jarace does so much more with the ball.

Is it me, or is PJ Washington one of the most underrated players in the game? I don’t watch the Hornets a lot, so I don’t really know, but it seems like every time I watch, I see Washington doing all sorts of good stuff. Seems like a guy who would be so valuable on a contender

Anthony Black, as much as I love him, shot 17.5% (7-40) from 3 vs top 50 opponents. He shot 22.3% (12-53) from 3 vs top 100. He shot 31.8% (28-88) from “other 2” (per Bart). 70% (134-190) from the FT line is good. But he isn’t Giddey & doesn’t defend the POA like Dyson.

Thoughts on some SL players I saw in person: 1) Reed is better than the film shows. Does so many little things well that make a very big difference & help him win on the margins he would otherwise lose (efficient use of dribble & angles, changes speeds, sets up PnR well). 🧵

@DraftDummies Davis had significant shooting concerns (and the passing wasn’t great). Mann had defensive concerns (and the rim pressure + finishing wasn’t great). Bouknight was mostly a scorer. Bufkin does all the things those guys didn’t do well (scores, shoots, passes, AND defends).

GG Jackson was such an interesting case last year. I had him in the top 10 for most of the year, but dropped him a little because of maturity concerns. Of course, those could always improve, but NBA teams don’t want to babysit & you have to be THAT special to get them to do so

In this draft, I think it’s ok to grab a guy early-ish who you think caps out at 12-20 minutes a game a couple years down the road in the playoffs. Seriously. Even at pick 10. If you think Clingan or Knecht gives 12-20 in the playoffs, that’s worth a top 10 this year, no?

This draft is so funky. A guy like Shepp has a legit case for a top 5 pick even though a player like that typically does not (& maybe should not) go that high. But still, does a guy like Shepp REALLY help a poor team who is picking that high more than a guy like Cody Williams?

I would argue no, actually. I think a reason he is ranked as high as he is (between 5-8) is because people DO see his offensive upside. If his offensive upside were being overlooked, he’d probably be ranked lower than 10 on most boards (unless he is, & I just haven’t seen it)

One of the ways I see this draft is, get the guys who can actually already do something. You may have to overspend, but so be it. Ex: McCain ain’t the tallest, nor the best passer, but he darn sure can shoot the ball off the catch & the bounce at a high level at a young age

Jabari Walker. Spend some time watching just him during the SL. Don’t watch anything but him for a few minutes. That guy knows what he’s doing. He can play.

Begarin is a big-time sleeper in this draft. He is a 3-level scorer with 2-way potential & he has great size & is an NBA athlete (6’6 w shoes, 214lbs, 7ft wingspan!!). And he is really young! I don’t love his defense, but it’s low-hanging fruit for sure.

Y’all thought summer league overreactions were bad? Keep watching the TL on these preseason games (and only ONE game so far!!)

I feel like when I watch Whitmore struggle, it seems fixable. Seems like, given his age and tools, he will be able to refine his issues. I could see him being a monster in the league if his initial context is “good.” Top 5 talent to me.

I have probably said this before, but Topic is a risky pick for a couple reasons: The complexity of his finishing FW just ain’t there. Everything is a full speed one footed takeoff. The mid range stuff is not there enough. Yes he will get better, but…

I think the way I see it is, some people don’t think Shepp should be ranked in the top 3-5, and so it’s not that they want him to drop, but that they want people to see why they don’t believe he is worth a pick that high, so a game like last night confirms their view.

There's a very weird hive of people who have been waiting for this moment for Reed to fall. But this one bad game doesn't outweigh him having more made 3s than missed 3s, being the 2nd high major freshman to do ever so (minimum 125 attempts)

Cody Williams is worth picking in the top 10. He ain’t gonna be an early contributor, but given a little time to get tons of shooting reps in practice & strength development, he could be a very good player. A very high level 2 way starting wing is in the cards for him.

The top of the draft should be reserved for productive young guys with plus frames* Productive! Even though young prospects have lots of room to develop, it’s still wise to keep in mind that, to a significant degree, you are what you are. This is why Salaun was an iffy pick

Guards or ball handlers that are always under control can appear less athletic, but it’s mostly us mistaking their control for slowness Nembhard was a guy who was always under control & had solutions for everything. Same w Shai Jaquez & Podz too Castle fits as well Who else?

There were a lot of things to like about GG as a prospect, but the 1 thing I thought would make the most difference for him early on was the shot. Thought he could really really shoot it, & that he would be able to leverage that to use the dribble to attack the paint.

I just have to say that I love how hard guys like O-Max, Colby Jones, Podziemski, Bufkin, etc all go. These dudes aren’t the only ones, but their attention to detail on the defensive end of the floor is sooooooo good.

I may be irrationally high on Duren, Dieng, Sochan, Watson, Wesley, Vince Williams, and Diabate. Still need to figure out Sharpe and AJG too. But those dudes have some crazy good flashes…crazy enough to warrant top 6 consideration, no?

In this class, Collier, Dillingham, and Holland create the MOST total advantages by themselves, with the ball, don’t they? I’m also including advantages they created that others benefit from, btw. Holland is likely to be a 2 way player Collier COULD be Dilly likely WON’T be

I feel like there are soooooo many prospects after the top 8 or so that could all be considered in the 9-15 range. Same for the 15-30 range. And I feel like I can’t separate them by using film/stats alone. I would need intel. Need to know more about their approach.

Why did ATL draft OO, given they had Capela & Collins? Were they planning on losing one of those guys? Even so, could OO be a full time center next to Collins? Or a 4 next to Capela? Look at the names still on the board…
