I’m sick of AAU coaches in tournaments especially after losses say “We are missing a couple of our key players”. It is a part of basketball, find a way to get it done with the players you do have. Don’t worry about players who aren’t there.

Middle school kids should be playing to get better, not for rankings. The middle school camps are a money grab. Find a good coach/program who will develop your child and challenge them to be better while teaching them the game. No one cares about middle school rankings.

I know I may get some heat but private schools should be in their own division. I feel bad for Troy, a group of Troy kids who go 22-1 but lose to a team with great players from all over metro Detroit. How are public schools supposed to compete with Rice and OLSM?

I’m glad I’m not coaching high school basketball, so many guys who claim to be “good guys” back door kids into their program. They don’t recruit but kids “end” up at their school. Get out of here with that junk. High school is the new college, what can you do for my kid.

Coach Fife was the reason I ended up playing college basketball despite never playing for him. He called Coach Hammer and told him about a kid from Waterford and vouched for me. Coach Fife invited me up to open gym so Coach Hammer could watch me and I earned a scholarship.

Athletes: make sure to thank your parents, Grandparents or whoever makes a sacrifice daily so you’re able to do what you love. Today at 34 years old my parents came to watch me coach a 7th grade girls game and I can’t describe how happy it made me to have them there.

I don’t understand why some coaches don’t utilize the 5 quarter option more. I noticed a lot of underclassmen sitting on varsity benches getting limited or no PT, why not have them play in the JV game then have them play varsity as well. Let the kid play and still can learn V 🏀

AAU PARENTS: When you are getting ready to select a team to play on this winter/spring don’t choose a team based off name. Find the team that has a coach that is going to develop and teach your child how to play the game so when they get to HS they are prepared.

Players: You have to stop blaming coaches or other adults on why you aren’t getting college interest or offers when your GPA is a 1.6 and you missed over 30 days of school. You have to get it done in the classroom first.
