Dog & Bone Game
Stolen from All Blacks S&C coach Nic Gill. Other then Max-V Sprint days I try not to have the athletes form typical prep lines.
This game ✅s a lot of boxes.
-Agility
-Wake up the 🧠
-Fire up CNS
-Work as TEAM
-Have FUN
Give it a try
Working on shifting gears with acceleration/COD with different stations today hitting multiple directions.
If your first 2-3 steps was slow you wasn’t winning many reps.
COMPETE!!!
I LOVE these type of days
I don’t care how much you paid $ your guru to up your squat, bench, or how much weight you put on.
If you can’t get comfortable in someone’s personal space or move another human then we usually weed out who’s going to help the Team out on Fridays 🤷🏻♂️
Got a lot of questions on this yesterday
Simple warmup for 🧠👁️
Grab 2 color cones
Here we have orange & yellow
If it’s orange you go (left)
Yellow go (right)
Your yearly reminder it’s ok to have a little fun/laugh and get better in American Football
Enjoy! 😏
Habits + Deliberate Practice = Mastery
Do the simple things savagely well with high effort, detail, while laughing a lot & having fun.
Some clips of Calvary Football last few weeks as they head into Spring Break.
Get Athletes out of their comfort zone. It’s a game of angles 📐
postures, & shapes= the ability to manage force. Be it carry speed or impact-

Not Plow Horses 🚫
If you prioritize SPEED yearly your athletes MIGHT actually like it as much as the Weight Room 😏
Sprint, Jump, Throw, Brakes
Challenge your athletes with different scenarios. Make them have to communicate and make mistakes. They can still have fun while doing it.
1v2 (added a extra player coming down hill. Offensive guy doesn’t know which side is coming.)
1v1 with more open space
GameDay Prep
Doesn’t just have to be break out foam rollers, bands, & static stretching. You can challenge your athletes without destroying them on GameDay. Did some various Bear Crawl positions for some healthy shoulders. Great job by Calvary Volleyball
Create a fun & competitive environment that looks, feels, & acts like sport. Opening up the space a bit more now with some various constraints.
Some solid Power-V angles today working on ability to make decisions 👁️🧠in space
Progressing with our warm-ups during field days for Calvary Football. Catch 3v1 Dodge. Adding a ball brings a little more added fun but then athlete must quickly react after to evade. Great way to get the engine running, wake up the brain, & check off some some early agility.
These ladies WORK!!!
Finishing out the season strong. Second year they have dedicated 2-3x a week in-season which include game days lifts. They continue to honor the right habits we want.
Do the simple things savagely well with high effort, detail, while having some laughs.
$PEED DAY
FLY 10 (20 yd build)
extra incentive
Hit 20 MPH 🖊️ the sign
(Took idea from Les Spellman)
Timed Arc Run
Some of our fastest guys aren’t the fastest when in the curve. Train It!
Some Coaches get excited over Olympic Lifts, or Various Big Back/Front Squats. For me it’s when a Athlete can perform a true SL Squat. So many boxes are ✅ for Performance. It’s not a movement that will go up on the glorified “Strength Leader Board” but it’s still impressive.
I could have them line up & go through the standard motions of prep aka “warmup” or they can have FUN while doing prep.
Continuing to set the standard of OUT 🚫 with the way it’s always been done.
A few small clips from the first week back of Return To Play with the Football team. Excited to be with this group again & continue to slow cook the training process week by week.

Been slowly progressing are open agility games under time constraints. Letting the Athletes express themselves & have a little more fun during it. Working on that Power-V 📐 1v1 / 2v2 Box Score 2v5 Dodge adding more people to that has made it more chaotic & fun.
The beauty of the STJ
SKILL group improving technique & looking more Springy every week. This is much harder then people realize. Challenging coordination, absorbing force, increasing power & elasticity in a unilateral fashion.

Take advantage of your outside time!
(Skill/Mids)
Small-Sided Games
Curved Sprint into Decel
(OL/DL)
Some contact prep (weighted vest)
Sled Marches
Sandbag Cleans
Some clips from the week with Calvary Football.
A lot can get accomplished in 35-45 mins when you build an environment of habits of trust & high effort.
A lot of quality work can get done in 25 mins if executed with high effort & energy.
-Quick Game
-Front Squat (.5m/s above)
-Chin-Up
-DB Split Squat
-Landmine Rotational Press
-(Pitchers) SL Squat on box
-GHD Roller Body-Saw (not shown)
✅ your boxes get them out the door.

The Energy Bus
Beach Volleyball getting some jump training in.
Sand courts have been beneficial for softening more challenging lands/possible injury reduction. Altitude/drop jumps become less scarier for the athletes while working to increase athleticism. A few various angles from this jump.
A few clips from the first
3 weeks of Summer.
Continuing to attack & prepare for the game with
•Speed (Linear/Curve-Linear)
•Reactive Plyometrics
•Contact Prep
•OODA games with high Energy, Effort, Intent, & Consistency.

Every little thing we do, no matter how mundane, matters greatly when it is multiplied by the number of times we do it. Over time, even the smallest habit or choice can change our lives immensely.
Week 4 ✔️
Can you control your body at high speeds. Curve-Linear sprinting a lot of times takes a back seat. Although athletes don’t think about body control in a game. It’s amazing how uncomfortable athletes can be when put to the test in a non-game scenario. Time It & Drive Intent.
Have FUN & jump with INTENT. Originally the 🏀 Hoop was for my volleyball girls to get them out of their comfort zone with just doing box jumps or even on the Just Jump Mat. Both volleyball & football has taken advantage this summer.
2v2/Dunk Contests pre or post sessions.
“Conditioning”
Small-Sided Games/Contact Prep
Contact I added a small wrinkle to it & borrowed Uncle Kurt’s idea of using a weighted vest during the session to simulate the weight of their pads. Thanks to

Alabama is set to hire David Ballou as strength coach and coming in with him is Matt Rhea.
Saban did a lot of research on Ballou and he is the best man for the job.

After brain storming with
@USAFootballMT
back in December about his Grapple/Tempo session it has been great for aerobic conditioning/contact prep this offseason. Here is Calvary Football demonstrating. (Not just BIGs) Great way to simulate game, compete, & having fun doing it.

A few clips from Week 2 with Calvary Christian Football.
A lot of PRs 🐆🐰 📈 but we can be better. Kept our Sprint distances short first few weeks.
Time to open it up with some Max-V next week.

WEIGHT ROOM OFFSEASON
I try not to have a one size fits all program.
-Quarterbacks have their own cards
-OL/DL have different movements from the group
After a long season looking back at previous areas of the body I can target more. I’ve added more shoulder & ankle ISOs
WARNING: No gimmicks
Volleyball athletes if you want to get more powerful & explosive you actually have to get strong. It’s OK to strain and be a little sore for results.
Do the simple things savagely well and move weight with intent.
It’s been a good collaboration with

We gotta remember a little more when working with Athletes that mainly all of them have a lot on their plates other then Athletics. Academics, home life, jobs etc. Technology is great but a underrated (KPI) Read The Room
A little fun & waking up the brain 🧠 goes a long way.
Physics aren’t Sport Specific
Can you control your body at high speeds in the curve. Sport does not occur in isolated linear. It’s amazing how uncomfortable athletes can be when put to the test in a non-game scenario. Time it, watch them COMPETE, drive Intent.

Game Speed is high bouts of acceleration/deceleration while controlling your body at high speeds. Think Formula 1 Race Car 🏎
Timed Serpentine Runs have been a staple these past 3 years while preparing for the demands of the game.
☕️ “Running around cones or through agility ladders/bags does not feature much by way of perception. These activities are completely pre-determined, whereas perception-based Games/Activities will (by default) change from repetition to repetition.
