Thoughts on HS meets that run 4 throws & no finals? Personally I hate meets like that because it takes opportunities away from the kids who are trying to qualify for bigger meets. Also, there's no college/pro meets that run that format.

Idk who needs to hear this but PLEASE get new trainers. I'm seeing too many high school & college athletes with shoes that are hanging on for dear life. Avoid the shin splints, knee pain, back pain etc. Good shoes are worth the money.

5 easy ways to throw farther: 1. Fall in love with the process 2. Stop throwing 100% on each throw (try tempo throws) 3. Take time to recover between sessions & even between throws 4. Watch videos of yourself & others throwing 5. Drill regularly

quality over quantity. I'd rather see 10 incredible throws in a training session than 30 throws where the athlete is progressively getting worse just because they're "trying to get reps in"

It's okay to not be the best HS athlete in the country. Work as hard as you possibly can, be coachable, & have a good attitude. Any good recruiter will recognize that you can be worth the investment if you do those things. The hardest workers win in the end

Through my entire athletic career I've always been told "oh you don't look like a thrower" Well, today an older gentleman at Walmart asked me if I was a bodybuilder because in his words I have "arms like canons" Definitely a bit of a stretch, but it's the little things in life.

2 yrs ago today I was at the hospital for my 3rd knee surgery. 10 months after that I won a conference title. 3 weeks later I was squatting more than twice my body weight for reps. Progress isn't linear, it's the Texas 2 step. Turn your steps into strides & don't stop moving.

One thing I'm extremely grateful for is the fact that my high school coach never let us throw in tennis shoes. Day 1 we were told we had to get the proper footwear. "You wouldn't step on the football field in flip-flops, so why would you try to throw in tennis shoes?"

Quick message to all the HS students/athletes When looking for a college/university, make sure you find the place that YOU can call home. You're making an investment in your future & in yourself, so don't waste your investment at a place that you wouldn't be happy to call home.
