Many people are reading the DHH article about TypeScript and taking an all or nothing stance about it. Hint: Some of the libraries we tout as "type-safe" mainly focus on external type-safety. They ALL use "any" internally when the type system gets in their way. tRPC? Zod? Yup.

@RoxCodes Depends on your DB. DBs like Postgres have a UUID datatype which is a number under the hood. DBs without a dedicated data type need strings. One important thing is to make it a fixed width char field rather than a varchar.

I personally think it shows intent when scanning. If I see a "const", I know the original author intended for that variable to not be reassigned. If const is the default, "let" shows intent that the variable will be reassigned. To each their own. Decide as a team and move on.

Mainly tweeting to pin this. My twitch schedule is basically everyday from 11am-ish to 6pm-ish Pacific time. Wednesday and Sunday are set aside for maintaining existing projects. The rest of the week is for whatever our main thing is at the time.

This is simply a post about how you can't predict the JIT compiler. Caveats: - The code needs to run often enough to be JIT'd. A React render block is a great example. - Depending on the use case the readability of using Array.from might still be preferred.

I think the debate around "passion" in programming is so contentious because passion is seen as a very strong emotion. If we reframed it as "curious", I doubt as many people would push back. The best devs we all know are probably the most curious.

I stream every day and notice a distinct drop in viewership when certain streamers are live. That could be discouraging for some people. I see it like this: The best and most entertaining streamers are live and I still have 40 to 50 diehards watching me.
