This is our small but mighty team behind
@rasayelio
😊
Craftsmanship, in all parts of our business, is a core value.
Craftsmanship require taste, patience, thoroughness, experimentation and stubbornness – Not just words, really that's what we do day-in, day-out.
This mighty
Before you use, or subscribe to
@Baremetrics
, please make sure you read this. This happened today. I went to their app to try & unsubscribe because we feel that Stripe's own dashboard is good enough for us after they added reporting specifically.
Few clicks around, I saw this:
Now the bigger question here is to
@stripe
, do you allow an app that's built on your platform to act in this way? More importantly, do you have continuous due diligence done on your partners that you list on your page? ()
As a technical person, I can smell ALOT of BS in this email. You can't delete my data safely unless I am on a call? 🤔 I decided to respond, perhaps I was a bit too harsh, perhaps at parts sarcastic, but come on, we can't let this happen.
Then I replied:
Nope. The only way to unsubscribe is through a call. WOW. So let's just elaborate, this means that if I don't jump on a call, I will be charged for eternity for NOT using their software. Huh?????? 🤔
I sent yet another angry customer email, and then Brian, replied:
I thought ok, not cool but I understand. I will just email them instead, I don't wish to make a call to unsubscribe. I asked nicely over email, and they responded nicely but they said they need me on a call because they want to make sure our data is deleted. Huh? 🤔
I got annoyed. I answered with a direct demand asking them to cancel our account, saying that it is our right. I am asking them to unsubscribe us and not charging us anymore because we are not using their product in the future. I am not asking for a refund at all here.
As of end 2019, Shopify had a monolith of 21K Ruby files and 150K tests ran at every push. Intercom monolith codebase was huge too when I left early 2019. Monoliths can age very well. Don't get bogged down into breaking it up before you "really" need to.
@Octopodsio
is built entirely on top of
@intercom
, and we know SO well what it takes to build a business on top of a platform. Everyday, whenever I respond to a customer, I think of
@intercom
's brand, I think of what my actions can lead to in terms of consequences....
I follow
@Shpigford
and love everything he does / did with Baremterics + the transparency movement. I was SO happy for him when the company got acquired. I still am. But it seems after the company has been sold, it has been dramatically transformed to work against entrepreneurs.
on a company that generously let me & the team build a business on top of their platform, I think of our customers who deserve to be treated fairly and with decency.
@stripe
, did
@Baremetrics
think of this when dealing with us today?
@AdvaitSaravade
@Baremetrics
I think there are a couple of really bad things about it,
1. The deceit. If they'd like to get me on a call, just say so, truthfully. Don't hide it behind deceitful technical excuses.
2. Giving me as a person and a business the right to say no. We were held hostages basically.
@TouchingVirus
@Baremetrics
Thanks Danny! But I think this is the kind of thing that belongs to the "worth the fight" club. I don't aim to get much of this for myself, but I am pretty sure others can at least take a step back and think of they will be dealing with here.
@EstebanCervi
@Baremetrics
Worth to note that I actually blamed myself a few times first of being plain stubborn before actually thinking that what's happening here is not my wrong doing, and this is all just not sound. 😳
The engineering work done on Stripe Apps on Shopify's remote-ui is excellent. I have seen and tried countless app/plugin/extension/whatever you call it frameworks and this has to be one of the most well thought wholly end-to-end engineered ones I have seen.
My wife is the most gifted and creative person I know. She didn't get any art-based education, rarely sits down and paints in past years, but recently she started following her passion, and those are her latest two paintings. I am in awe of her talent. ♥️
@hnshah
1. Taking ownership back of my time.
2. Free of distraction space to produce quality work.
3. Saving hours of commute and giving those back to exercise and loved ones.
After over a year of having hundreds of customers using
#whatsapp
in

, and millions of messages, we are finally launching it out publicly on
@ProductHunt
! I am so happy to wake up everyday knowing customers love it & are impacted by it. ❤️
@debgotwired
@darkpatterns
@Baremetrics
👌And I am,
1. Consulting my lawyer.
2. Ttalking to Stripe to understand more what due diligence do they do on their partners. (abit silent)
My goal is to raise awareness to other potential or existing users of them, and of any portoflio company under
Maybe overconfident here but I have no doubt this is going to play so well with the bouquet of channels we support for Intercom – We just launched & opened up
#Instagram
for
@intercom
publicly and many customers are loving using it already 😊📸📥
As a developer, when you choose to build over a platform, you inherit their customer's culture, so think & choose wisely, because what you inherit eventually shapes how you think about customers day in, day out. In short, build over
@intercom
– nicest customer base ever. 🙃
It may be hard to believe but for folks who care, this is a real deal breaker. The slower I am able to ship code, the more opportunities I miss to make people’s life better.
people really do leave their jobs over build times. i am not making this up.
the impact your deploy pipeline has on developer productivity and happiness is HARDCORE.

It took sometime, and a lot of nights but it is here and I couldn't be happier! I have on-boarded plenty of customers so far using the new
#whatsapp
Business API for Intercom and it is solving a big pain for them!
We're excited to announce that
#Octopods
now supports the official
#WhatsApp
Business API. We launched back in January and have never been more excited about a channel—stay tuned for more info! 😁 (Or get it all right now: )

One of the reasons Ireland 🇮🇪 is a place I feel home at ❤️ I keep my faith very privately to myself, as I think this is where it belongs. Unintentionally, part of me was a little scared of people's eyes in the street yesterday, that feeling of unfounded guilt.
Almost 3 years ago I read a book, took the decision to quit my job, and decided that I'll never work in an office again. Best decision I ever made. Find a work arrangement that works for you if you can, spend time with family, exercise, be in nature, and be free.

Is a playbook that employs deceitful tactics worth deploying? Post or pre acquisition, it doesn't matter, the principle is wrong.
The startup journey is tough, like so tough, even tougher if you are bootstrapped. The one thing I am pretty confident of is that you are always out as a winner, wiser, and with more grit than ever. To winning and to being your awesome self 🍻
The fun of startups. Just noticed that in the last 5 hours, I supported a couple of customers, investigated an issue, some product thinking + writing, wrote some tests + fixed some bugs, reviewed a PR, reviewed a tech doc, hiring strategising, and feel bad about my productivity.
🚨We just launched Intercom Series🚨
A visual drag and drop, campaign builder. It’s an incredible piece of work conceived, designed and delivered by the exceptional folks on our Engage team.

Just what I thought of before moving to the small coastal town of Dungarvan. I am helping build a technology company and selling our software all over the world and benefiting a small town from rent to groceries to local services, etc. I love this version of the future.
The thing that thrills me most about the
@NearForm
story is that this is being done in Tramore (pop. c.11,000) - albeit 10km from Waterford. There are at least 60 larger towns in Ireland. No reason why, with the right policies, we can't have similar companies around the country.
I'm delighted that
@williamvholden
, my long time friend and collaborator in

A handful of great companies have been trialling Vidu over the past 4 weeks and have seen great results.
We'll be launching our 1st

product soon...
So I turned down $1M and a stable job two years back. ☺️ Just believed we could make 100x more impact with
@rasayelio

business solution in the market. ❤️
Collaboration, autonomy, ownership and impact are some principles we fight for that make us, at

, build great product. Here is one of these great products that I am proud to be part of building ❤️

Greenways are worth every tax penny. There are now more planned and in development which makes me so excited to continue live in Ireland for years to come. Waterford's greenway was magnificent today!
We are hiring, again! 😳 I can promise you will have lots of fun, freedom, and space for creativity. There are at least two big, VERY cool, things baking into the Octopods kitchen for months now and I'd love to talk to
#frontend
remote-loving
#engineers
who'd like to join us! ❤️
We started this year thinking seriously on how to give back to the community that supported us and businesses who communicate with their customers on more than one channel, and so we built a forever free Omnichannel Chat Widget for them to use! 😍😍😍
Example for building for the long term at
@Octopodsio
-> 7 to 8 months work on foundations, and now 3 to 5 days to support a new messaging channel end-to-end. Starting off, it was hard to quantify and reason about optimising for the long term. 😳
Hey folks! 👋 We've just launched our new website! It comes with more details on how Octopods works, clear pricing, and a little bit about the team! Oh, and, lots of animations 🥳 Check it out →
You should do your best to map what you believe in to what you spent most of your time doing.
@intercom
created a space with focus on great culture with a set of principles that helped me do that, and consequently changed my life. We are hiring :)
@eoghan
@intercom
@karenpeacock
Thank you so much
@eoghan
for everything! But mostly for creating a company and a culture that's so accepting & inclusive putting those hard bets on people of all different kinds, eventually changing their lives forever, and yes, I am talking about myself too ❤️
Software Engineers easiest lever to pull is usually the build lever, and that's natural. The ones who consider the customer, product, design levers are key. It took me time to make it a habit leaving the build lever till last.
This is very true. I joined
@intercom
as someone who can solve "problem(s)", and left as someone who solves the right "problem". This is a hard but very rewarding mental journey.
If you are not spending a few hours to articulate & write down a problem statement, you’re probably too solution focused.
One of my biggest lessons from working
@intercom
.
If you have dealt with SQS, Ruby and poller hell, this is a wonderful gift by the
@awscloud
team. Looks like the creators also looked carefully at how Shoryuken works. I will be trying this in production for sure.
A Deliveroo driver has told how he used his helmet to hit the man who had attacked a woman and three children in Dublin city centre yesterday. Caio Benicio is originally from Rio de Janeiro in Brazil and arrived in Ireland a year ago. The dad-of-two said he “acted on instinct”.
It frustrates me so much when a potential customer comes in and asks a question like "Do I have to pay for this?" or "Is there any cost for this?" .. "This" being our entire product .. I answer assuming best intent but it fires me up soooo much.
The best habit I've learned working at Stripe is the reflex to always write a short document (or ask someone to write a doc) to contemplate any major decision.
Nothing brings clarity like writing.
So why

highlighted that messengers are the becoming the corner stone of personal online communication and it

The Aha! moments for me as an engineer were when I either spoke to a customer directly, or spoke to a customer support colleague who speaks to customers directly. Engineers should do this more often.
