A big thank you to the team who have worked a phenomenal shift to clean up the mess after riots hit Hull. Those who tried to divide us yesterday will not be allowed to win.
The Amazing

.
The idiots who caused all this don't define us, our people & those who work to ensure everything gets back to normal do!

Sky News cuts away from talking about England game to show Ed Davey bunging jumping. Firstly, a sentence never thought I'd write, but secondly kudos to Ed and the
@LibDems
team that have managed to get this sort of coverage in this campaign, where covering Ed is more interesting.
A new
@LibDems
administration took office today at Hull City Council. My privilege to be elected Leader of the Council, leading a brilliant
@libdemsinhull
team. We're up for the challenges ahead. We'll work our hardest for the people of this great city.
Like so many, I've been appalled by the scenes we have witnessed in Hull and across the country. Those responsible don't speak for Hull.
I am heartened by so many who are equally appalled by what has happened. We need more tolerance and respect in our nation.
My comment below.
A big thank you to
@EdwardJDavey
for making the trip up to celebrate our success with us in Thursday's election. Great to see him. First time we have had a majority on the council for over a decade.
Extremely upset by the passing of a legend at Hull City Council, Mark Jones. Mark had been part of the council for nearly 4 decades and was dedicated to the city of Hull. He leaves a real legacy. My prayers are with all those who loved him.
I hope everyone who is going to Sesh has a wonderful, and safe, day out. It's a brilliant celebration of musical talent in the city.
I would also add this is the real Hull, a far better representation of the city than any march or protest in Hull today.
A brilliant result for
@libdemsinhull
. Shows that the party can win big in cities here in the north and against Labour. Most of all, it is a victory for the residents of Hull, who we will continue to serve and seek to work hard for. Thank you to all those who backed us this year
Couple days on from the appalling events in Hull, the response has been brilliant. As well as those who turned out to clean up the mess, I've been touched by the groups and businesses who have contacted me directly to offer their help. My thanks to all of them. We are
#TeamHull
I'll say more in the days ahead on what the results here in Hull mean for the city, the council and the party, but for now, I just want to say thank you to all those residents who put their trust in us to bring real change for them.

Today, I was confirmed to remain as Leader of Hull City Council. It has been an incredible 2 years so far and I am excited for the coming year. Working alongside brilliant people across the city, I know Hull is a city with a brilliant future ahead of it.

Very positive meeting earlier this week. Exciting proposals for the area. Looking forward to seeing this progress. Good news for the clubs and the area.
This week, Cllr Mike Ross met with SuperStadium Management Company,

Well,
@realchalamet
, as leader of the council here in Hull, can I say you are always welcome to come visit the city. I know we'll give you a very warm welcome.
The party make up across Hull and the East Riding is now -
54 Lib Dem
29 Cons
29 Labour
12 Others
Absolutely incredible that the
@LibDems
are the largest party across this patch.
Honoured to have been confirmed as Leader of Hull City Council again. Been a privilege to carry out the role this last year. The Lib Dems have made a start on making the changes the city needs this year. Much more to come. Fab cabinet I lead and great group on the council too.
This evening I’ve urgently written to the SoS for Health
@theresecoffey
asking she urgently visits Hull to discuss the crisis in the local health service. It comes as Hull Royal Infirmary has said it is facing serious pressures. Residents, patients and staff alike deserve better
This is a watershed moment. The party has come a long, long way since the low point of a decade or so ago. The party is a real electoral force again. Right across the country the
@LibDems
are moving forward.
Goodness. If only there had been some sort of warning about this 4 years ago.

If a government minister would like to explain why somewhere like Hull doesn't get

money when the Prime Minister's constituency does, I would be most welcome. This government is scandalous and not even trying to hide it anymore.
So pleased for the team in the East Riding, who held both seats in yesterday's by-elections. Caused in tragic circumstances, it is good to know the public have backed the team again. Following on from our own victory a fortnight ago, it's looking good for the
@LibDems
round here.
Got a chance to see the progress on the Maritime Museum this afternoon - fortunately inside and out of the rain. While still a lot of work to do, it's clear this will be a fantastic place when it is finished. One the city will be able to be proud of.
Thank you to the people of Hull who have put their faith in the
@libdemsinhull
to keep running Hull City Council. Our priority is serving you in all we do.
This was an historic election for the Lib Dems. We have a lot to celebrate. We are not only back, but beyond where the party has ever been and you have to go back over 100 years to exceed it under a previous party.
Some thoughts from me.
Lib Dems pumped. This just in from them:
To win in Mid Bedfordshire, the Lib Dems would need a swing of 23.6%. This is less than the swings they achieved in Chesham and Amersham (25.2%), North Shropshire (34.2%) and Tiverton and Honiton (29.9%).
Chancellor announces devolution proposals to proceed for Hull and the East Riding. This comes after months of hard work pushing for a deal that had to be right for the city. It is a monumental achievement to get this far and I am pleased to have played my part in getting there.
Immensely proud of the team achieving this result. Massive shift to us and underlines the Tories finished in Hull, after falling to 3rd in what was once their only ward on the council. Shows the progress we're making right across Hull, with both other parties going backwards.
WHAT A RESULT 🔶
Labour: 43.7% (-9.1)
Lib Dem: 30.8% (+25.3)
Conservative: 19.9% (-15.9)
Green: 4.7% (-1.2)
Yorkshire Party: 0.9% (new)
Huge well done to Lucy. The Lib Dems went from 4th to 2nd in the Bricknell By-election! The Tories are now extinct in Hull.
Absolutely applaud this move by the team
@StoryHull
. Agree with the comment in the article too that the shrinking landscape of local media is bad news for local democracy. Look forward to holding the paper copy in my hands soon.

Disappointing to hear that some of the

puffins have been damaged. Here I am with the one our family have 'adopted'.
The puffins have already added to the appearance of the city and East Riding and I hope there is no more damage in the future!
It's Lib Dem spring conference this weekend. Amazingly, it's the party's first in person conference since 2019! While we'll be looking forward to the weekend, also know we'll be missing some well known faces who always were such great entertainment at the event, such as Paddy
Lovely to be able to pop into
@bank07056865
now the doors are open to the public. All the very best to the whole team who have put in a great effort to get it to this point. Look forward to more in the new year. This bank will take your money - in exchange for coffee and cake!
Before some govt minister suggests we might be planning on, and so says they will ban us from doing so first, I can confirm we have no plans in Hull to make it compulsory to walk on the left side of the road or only use blue pens.
#15minutecities
What a reality check for all those who at the weekend were saying politicians weren't listening to the majority in the country. While there are concerns to be addressed, the vast majority are compassionate people who totally reject the views of the likes of Farage and Robinson.
LBC radio reports that govt says in places like Hull where there were high Covid19 rates solutions were found rather than closing schools, such as mass testing. But those tests are still to get going in great numbers. This govt makes it up as it goes along.

They’ll be harvested after 16th December.
They’re a visible sign of why everyone’s saying local LibDem Helen Morgan has a very real chance to beat Johnson’s candidate from Birmingham.

I am sure the whole city of Hull's thoughts and prayers are with Her Majesty The Queen and her family at this moment as we all hope and pray for her full recovery.
Full council now debating support for local radio, such as
@RadioHumberside
. It is a vital service for communities and should be supported not gutted.
Arrived this morning through my letterbox. Aware there are some who have got it and concerned it might not be genuine. It is and it could well help you out with your energy bills.
Great to see
@hullseahawks
win tonight and then to hear from some of the players after the match. Could hear what the club succeeding could do for the city.
After a long day on the campaign trail, it is a relief to sit down, put my aching feet up and enjoy some of Hull's very own Paul Heaton from

What a busy weekend for Hull. Hull Pride bringing glorious colour, British Chess Championship which I officially opened and Medieval Mayhem all bringing the crowds to a very busy city centre. Everyone enjoying themselves as well.
Presented the rising star award tonight at the Hull Live Business awards. A special one tonight as it was dedicated to Mark Jones, who was himself committed to the next generation.

Latest addition to the Ross household, Florence. All going well so far. Love her loads already. On another point, never let it be said women are the weaker sex, given all they go through to give birth! Total admiration for Shirley. Family time now.
After nearly 20 years as a cllr, there's still a great feeling when get an email from the council saying they have reconsidered a piece of casework and will now be helping out a resident after all, when it seemed unlikely to happen. Big difference hopefully made for the resident.
I was there last night and the crowd loved it. This kick starts the cultural programme in Hull for the year. Many more top quality events lined up for the city to enjoy.

I got a tour round A+E at HRI today. A reminder, if such a thing was needed, of just what a difficult job the teams that work there do. Particularly today when an incident resulted in an armed response call out from the police! A big thank you to those who work there and the NHS.
Thank you Hull! Our team will be working hard for the residents of Hull.
A great result for the Liberal democrats and communities right across the city.
After a week in hospital for our eldest, great that he was out in time to see the
@MiddleChildHull
pantomime yesterday. It was 'mischief night' for the last performance, so here's the children's effort at drawing Red Riding Hood. Looking forward to next year's show already!
I have some letters to write to government ministers. I'm again in that position of thinking do I need to wait a day or two to see if they will still be in office. Shambolic.
Slightly sobering thought that I've now done 18 years on Hull City Council and that by the time I'm up for election again next year there'll be people able to vote for me that weren't born when first elected! Been my privilege to serve the people of Hull all this time.
