Cutest thing I saw at the WWC was a Danish boy down close to the field after the DEN/ENG game. Asked for an autograph from Denmark's GK coach (former DK WNT player Heidi Johansen). She took the jersey + got 10 players to sign it + the little guy almost exploded w excitement.

15 Spanish players complained re Coach Vilda. His dad is his boss. The unwanted kiss was given by Spain's fed president. The VP of FIFA Montagliani was found in a report to have covered up sexual abuse. Athletes will not be safe until bodies outside sport exist to protect them.

Realized yesterday, it will be exactly 5 years to the day I wrote my blog, A Horrific Canadian Soccer Story, that Treaty's first 2024 League of Ireland games will kick off. Makes me quite emotional. Be brave. It's wild, the good things that can happen. Can't wait to get started.

The organization's response was not 15 years ago. Despite terminating BB for sex misconduct in '08, you let Birarda coach teenage girls until a few of us players took a massive risk + exposed it in 2019. You had policies then + didn't follow them. Why should you be trusted now?

The hardest 2022 realization for me, was the silencing we experienced, allowing a now convicted sex offender access to teenagers for a decade, was not an accident. It was purposeful, by people w/ $ + power to gain. 2023 will be exposing, dismantling + the start of something new.

This is precisely why the false term “independent investigation” needs to be tossed. If an organization has attorney-client privilege - the “investigators” are working for the organization, and it is NOT independent. To assert anything else lacks integrity + is patently false.

I played w Ada Hegerberg + Anja Sonstevold of Norway WNT when they were 14/16. They trained at a pro level 5x/week w a game + at school 3 mornings a week w top coaches. Compare that to Canada/US teenager experience. That's the gap we are starting to see w pro leagues worldwide.

Honestly, feel sick after reading this. Mostly on a human level at how so many people knew how egregious Birarda's conduct was on so many levels + did nothing. It also confirms on page 41 + page 90 that current CONCACAF Pres/VP of FIFA VM, was directly involved in the cover up.

For those saying a judicial inquiry is not needed bc it will traumatize athletes to share their stories again: as someone that spent 11 years telling the story of abuse to a black hole, I would happily tell it again in a safe, trauma-informed environment if it meant real change.

I’ve heard that Whitecaps are releasing the report tomorrow. Incredibly Whitecaps-esque to do it on the Wednesday before Christmas, but better than nothing. They paid for it - expecting that will be reflected in content. Thx to the public for putting pressure on for the release.
