Little guy had the best night of his life while killing his mascot assignment. Thanks to Tommy and the guys for being so great to him 💙❤️ cc:
@TreatyUnitedFC
Went to rent a car today and the guy asked me what I was doing in Limerick. Told him I was involved in soccer.
Guy: "Just heard on the news there was some big takeover of Treaty our local club by Canadians + there's a female CEO for the 1st time."
Me: "Oh no way, that's wild!"
Cutest thing I saw at the WWC was a Danish boy down close to the field after the DEN/ENG game. Asked for an autograph from Denmark's GK coach (former DK WNT player Heidi Johansen). She took the jersey + got 10 players to sign it + the little guy almost exploded w excitement.
If the World Cup is this unreal with so many countries under the cloud of abuse, lack of payment + overall mistreatment, imagine how good it could be if the players could worry about just. playing. soccer.
The Italian players have released a statement following their elimination from the

Like too many nations, it appears Italy has not been a happy camp, from what I’ve translated 👇🏼
Emotional day. Thank you to all the fans that walked out of games. You amplified the story + gave victims courage to come forward. There is so much work left to do for every athlete to have a safe + positive sporting experience but this is a start + the fight will continue ❤️
The same full accountability everyone at Canada Soccer has faced, many of who are still there from 2008, when you covered up sexual misconduct of Canada's U20 coach who is currently charged with 9 sex crimes, or ??
With many of our

having participated or still active in the league, we expect full accountability for the serious allegations being reported by players. We have reached out to FIFA, US Soccer and the NWSL to express our full commitment and support for all investigations.
It’s almost like media in Canada has no idea that our very own Canadian 2008 Olympic Women’s Soccer coach is appearing in court this week on 9 sex charges. Those of us players that fought to be heard for 11 years, know all about those ears that refuse to listen.
Another fantastic article by

Part of my statement in front of the Canadian government’s Heritage Committee today.
Anything less than a national inquiry at this stage is complicity in the now known rampant abuse of Canadian athletes.
Hope the message is amplified at the same volume the initial story was put out there re: the attack on PSG player Hamraoui - Aminata Diallo was released and is presumed innocent + police are now focusing on an ex of Hamraoui.
According to L'Équipe, PSG's Aminata Diallo has been released without charges. Police are now focusing on an ex-partner of Hamraoui from her time in Barcelona.
Before getting off the bus, this little girl told the bus driver that “Shake It Off” was her favorite song. He stopped everything he was doing, parked the bus, turned up the song, and jammed with her...💪🌎🎶❤️
I was an assistant of a NCAA program that had a few of RD’s talented Eclipse players. The HC decided while I was there to not take anymore bc “they are so emotionally broken when they come in.” What about the youth players of these coaches? We need someone to protect ALL players.
NEW: NWSL players went to US Soccer with multiple complaints about emotional abuse by Red Stars coach Rory Dames
"I was made to feel by U.S. Soccer that I was in the wrong, there was nothing to report, and that this was acceptable," said Christen Press.
Excited to share this news + so grateful to my partners at Tricor Pacific Capital. I know first hand all the incredible volunteers, coaches, players fans + people

Vietnam-USA game on at my hotel, the Vietnamese bartender just walked over to the TV with a huge smile on his face + started singing the anthem w his hand on his heart, beaming + said, "I'm so proud this is our first time in the WC." Brought a tear to my eye. What it's all about.
Thank you to everyone we can see on TV walking out. Honestly after feeling like we’ve been fighting this alone for so long, it means a lot to see such a real display of support ❤️

Twitter Folk: My friend's 11 year old who loves soccer had a sudden brain bleed + collapsed last week. She is currently in hospital only able to see her parents bc of covid. I'd love to boost her up w mail love from soccer teams + people all over. DM me if you'd like to help.
All it took was the discovery of 2 secret sex abuse cover up funds, a govt inquiry, the PM + every single political party calling for removal, govt funding stopped + almost every single sponsor pulling out.
Maybe it's time to make accountability of NSO leaders a little easier?
3 years to the day since I sat at my best friend's parents house at rock bottom + feeling terrified, pushed publish on a blog that would change everything. Grateful that the world seems a little more right since that time. Still so much work to do, but I'm hopeful.
In case anyone had forgotten the deeper issues that left many Spanish players sitting out the WC. A depressing, non- consensual, very visible reminder of the fight female players continue to deal w off the pitch despite the incredible, entertaining football being played on it.
Initial personal reaction to WFC letter: No sincerity, no accountability + many, many unanswered questions remain. Not to mention it’s taken 2 months since the blog, 2 fan walk-outs + 10,000 person drop in fan attendance to even have this addressed. Not even close 2 good enough.
Someone needs to remind RFEF that they are the federation for all of Spanish football, including the players, not Rubiales' personal PR firm.
I can't ever remember the PR of a federation of any sport anywhere, so openly biased protecting a harm-causing leader. Wild to witness.
🚨 The RFEF has released a new statement in response to Jenni Hermoso’s statement
“We have to state that Ms. Jennifer Hermoso lies in every statement she makes against the President.”
A few weeks ago I asked for help in brightening the walls of a 11 year old that loves soccer + suffered a brain bleed that’s gonna keep her off the field for a bit.
In case anyone needed to be reminded of the good in people, this is how the soccer world responded ❤️
#thankyou
While we are all working together to create change in the soccer system in BC and Canada, can we do away with these BS tryouts for 9 year olds. Met a little girl last night who just got cut from her team + friends + was devastated. Made my heart hurt and my blood boil.
After years of feeling helpless and powerless dealing with this organization, there is something almost therapeutic in reading through this thread. It’s like being bullied at school forever and then one day out of nowhere, having your big brother show up.
#VWFC
The Vancouver media's role in covering up this story for a decade, TSN not reporting the walkouts during games + Sekeres' aggressive interview of me in Dec 2019 for TSN radio are all troublesome on a scale larger than than the story + is worth a close look. Integrity matters.
IMO-very concerning that Ciara also believes sexual abuse story hasn’t gotten play because of 1040 (
#1
sports radio station) owning rights to Whitecaps & other sports media not wanting to rock the boat. Inform yourself of the story and let’s put pressure for change in whitecaps.
The sooner we lose the narrative that emotional abuse = helping people be their best, the safer sport will be for all.
Plenty of coaches have figured out how to push their athletes to their potential w/out mentally destroying them in the process. If you can't, do something else.
“Maybe what used to be OK is not OK anymore, and maybe it shouldn’t be,” said Maggie Haney, the elite gymnastics coach who was suspended for eight years by USA Gymnastics for what it called her “severe aggressive behavior” toward her athletes.
A friend asked me today how I’m feeling. I told her I feel like I’ve gotten something back that was taken away from me for years. I’ve realized it’s my voice. I’m so grateful no matter how this plays out. Thanks everyone who has supported me. Words can’t convey my appreciation ❤️
we don't talk enough about the harm that comes when people choose to cover up abuse. the burden of being silenced destroys people. this woman bravely reported to police + hockey canada. for 5 years, she was gaslit, minimized + re-harmed. this behavior needs to be criminalized.
let’s not forget to hold accountable the individuals at Hockey Canada who KNEW about this assault and covered it up. who did everything in their power to make it go away even if it meant silencing a survivor forever.
Grateful for
@Sportsnet
giving a platform for such an important topic. Also grateful for the resiliency, determination + fight of our group of women that continue to pursue truth, justice + creating a better, safer system for the athletes coming behind us

"We all experience things differently, but we should always strive to do better, and be attentive to one another’s perceptions."
Gaslighting at it's finest. Yikes.
Exactly 2 years since I hit publish, terrified, but praying people would finally listen. The kind of support that came was beyond my wildest dreams. I’ll always be grateful for how my life changed for the better + will forever fight for athlete rights to pay that healing forward.
Grateful that finally it feels like we've hit the tipping point. Proud of everyone that's spoken up whether w/ a gold medal around their neck, to those who over a decade ago, spoke up, lost everything + are watching quietly. Every voice got us here.

I wrote this email to Rachel Lewis, the Whitecaps CEO in 2012. It was in response to her writing me "concerned" about the blogging I was doing after seeing 2 coaches in 3 years let go quietly after an investigation + allowed back into the community.
Really hope the whole women's soccer community goes for a burn it all down moment. We need a fundamental structural change with meaningful representation of diversity in race, gender + experience leading our game + end this tyrannical rule by the Rubiales' that exist everywhere.
My friend, who’s a teacher in BC, just sent me a photo of a presentation two of her Grade 7 boys made on a French Canadian who impacted history. Their choice?

The 2022 McLaren Report found VM to have played a leading role in covering up the sex misconduct of Canada's 2008 U20 WC head coach BB (BB now jailed for sex abuse of multiple teenage players)
Rubiales et al. messed with the wrong crowd. Women’s football has never tolerate their, but the power abuse scheme is falling.
Now, we wait for his removal (the only decision) and for the rest of the rotten crowd to follow.
Women’s football community, a VERY VERY powerful one.
Realized coaching today, seeing how much one of my little peeps has improved in the last 5 months, that I could care less about winning and losing. My joy coaching comes from seeing kids that people wanted me to cut, starting to get confident and ball ❤️

Canada and Vancouver Whitecaps coach Bob Birarda pleas guilty to sexual assault today. Here's a reminder of the struggle to get it this day. The events from 2008 resurfaced in 2019...
1st time on a competitive field in 4 years tonight + 1st time in 15 years without the Canada Soccer/Whitecaps trauma hanging over me w things finally made right. Not the result we wanted but a pretty special night ❤️

At first glance I thought this was a witty SNL style skit by fans.
Most corrupt organizations are doing things in the dark, meanwhile the clowns leading Canada Soccer are empowered enough to proudly star in videos demonstrating how they are ripping Canadian players off. Wild.
I’ll be live on CBC on Canada Tonight in 10 minutes talking about the NWSL situation. Grateful for news in Canada deeming this important enough to discuss.
Nope, try again guys. Submit to the MLS investigation. Release all NDA's + all legal silencing mechanisms for board members. Nothing less than transparency is acceptable + we're far too savvy now to let an org + people in it with something to lose, to control an investigation.
An incredibly naive take that this was an isolated incident. No chance you’re testing your drone spying out for the first time at the Olympics. The continuous lack of integrity from Canada Soccer + Canadian sport make it so difficult to be proud to be Canadian. Flat out sad.
In the wake of the major controversy surrounding the
#CanWNT
drone debacle with New Zealand, I asked Canada's
#Olympics
general secretary David Shoemaker what made him okay with Bev Priestman coaching after the 1st match.
"I thought about all the repercussions for Bev."

@NCAA
As a former NCAA athlete, I’m utterly embarrassed at the blatant sexism on display this week and ashamed to have any association with the organization. Embarrassing doesn’t even begin to cut it.
15 Spanish players complained re Coach Vilda. His dad is his boss. The unwanted kiss was given by Spain's fed president. The VP of FIFA Montagliani was found in a report to have covered up sexual abuse.
Athletes will not be safe until bodies outside sport exist to protect them.
The awful Spanish saga of mistreating its women’s team continues with that unwanted kiss. If this is how the Spanish federation treats its stars for all the world to see, what on earth is going on behind the scenes when the cameras aren’t looking? Our

My prediction: Countries with no women's league will struggle moving forward. Huge advantage to other countries where talented teenagers are playing with women, + older players having a place to develop. The growth/stagnation of teams this World Cup is making that obvious.
More thoughts on Canada Soccer Business:
1) Canada Soccer is a non-profit entity funded in part by taxpayers/player reg fees.
2) Quietly, assets worth millions of $ grown off the back of taxpayers/players have been handed to a private entity.
Has to be made known who owns CSB.
Worth noting that Bob Birarda still has his coaching license despite being fired by Whitecaps and CSA for sexual misconduct + currently up on 9 sex charges.

Be a good time to remind everyone that Canada Soccer in 2008 fired their U20 WNT HC for sex misconduct against underage players, covered it up + allowed him to coach teenage girls for 10 + years. He is now convicted of sex assault incl from ‘08.
Where’s that investigation?
New: Canada’s Minister for Sport Pascale St-Onge said today she is ordering a forensic audit of Hockey Canada and will ask HC executives to testify about a sexual assault lawsuit filed in April that already has been settled.

Realized yesterday, it will be exactly 5 years to the day I wrote my blog, A Horrific Canadian Soccer Story, that Treaty's first 2024 League of Ireland games will kick off. Makes me quite emotional.
Be brave. It's wild, the good things that can happen. Can't wait to get started.
$11,000 for custom suits. But there's no money for things like a national women's soccer league or $ for therapy for the athletes you harmed by covering up abuse.
All the journalists + govt out there: please keep digging into the finances of CS. The rot you are sure to find...
While Canada Soccer has directed players and staff to give back the Team Canada sweat tops, pants and polo shirts they have been provided for training sessions, the federation this summer spent $11,074 on new custom suits for board members.
The organization's response was not 15 years ago. Despite terminating BB for sex misconduct in '08, you let Birarda coach teenage girls until a few of us players took a massive risk + exposed it in 2019.
You had policies then + didn't follow them. Why should you be trusted now?
Received confirmation of my appearance in Ottawa on December 1, in front of the Status of Women Committee in the House of Commons.
All I can say is that it's a hell of a job trying to condense 15 years of harm into a 5 minute statement but I'm v grateful for the chance to try.
Back on the field coaching games for the first time in a few years after taking a long hiatus from youth soccer. I forgot that there is nothing better than seeing little faces light up when you give them encouragement. God is it good to be back.
So much respect for SL's mom Sandi for speaking up. Things won't change without that bravery. I hope Canadian fans that were downright cruel to SL, now understand the reality for young, female Canadian players at the time. A good lesson to never judge what you know nothing about.
2 men who directly participated in covering up the sexual misconduct of 2 separate coaches in a 3 year period w Vancouver Whitecaps.
Says it all for how far we have left to go.
And there it is. As I was told on 13th both Bob and Dan Lenarduzzi are back with the club in liason roles. Was also told Bob never stopped working for club, arranging business deals.

NEW BLOG I Response to May 1, 2019 Whitecaps Statement + Updated Timeline Involving Messages to Greg Kerfoot, Dan and Bob Lenarduzzi and Rachel Lewis in 2007/2011/2012
Interesting quote from a friend just now re: the US goal scoring cellies v Thailand today "Watching the US going over the top after goals today was like watching a bunch of clueless people celebrate their first world privilege."
This is the 2011 Whitecaps coach mentioned in my 2019 blog who was let go for misconduct quietly after the club investigated him + silenced us. I can't say enough about the bravery of Malloree Enoch as well as Jen Stoltenberg + Kelsey Hood to come forward.
Insanely wrong take.
Victims of abuse shouldn’t have added weight of deciding what should be done w their abuser. FIFA, the Aus police, Spanish govt - it’s their job to do something, not hers.
JFC it was on live TV in front of the world. What else does she possibly need to say
Would love to know who overturned the ban. Cannot get over this story and how vulnerable those players must feel. Every day it seems like another kick in the stomach to women around the world just trying to play the game.
Haiti’s former soccer federation president, whose lifetime ban from the sport over sexual abuse allegations was overturned, is reclaiming his position after the country's women's soccer team qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time.
Really sad to hear stories from Canadian soccer, of parents that are afraid to report abusive coaches because they are afraid of repercussions on their children because they realize they are reporting into orgs liable for the harm. What will it take for this madness to stop?
Shared w/ permission from Jackie Sawicki, the player I tweeted about, hit w/a $500 bill to return to amateur soccer in Canada. She sent this today to
@CanadaSoccerEN
- equally important, it describes the reality Canadian women face to continue playing w/out our own Nat league.
The hardest 2022 realization for me, was the silencing we experienced, allowing a now convicted sex offender access to teenagers for a decade, was not an accident. It was purposeful, by people w/ $ + power to gain.
2023 will be exposing, dismantling + the start of something new.
I’ve the best freaking friends in real life + the internet. I’m so blown away + appreciative of all the kind words + support from people that saw the testimony. There’s more good people in the world than bad. Sometimes it takes crappy situations to find/remind us of each other ❤️
Walked down the street in Limerick today, a guy saw a Treaty logo on my jacket, and said "Are you associated with the club?" (I respond vaguely affirmative).
"Wow are you guys off to a great start! It's so exciting!"
Buzzing with the overall buzz in the city.
This is precisely why the false term “independent investigation” needs to be tossed. If an organization has attorney-client privilege - the “investigators” are working for the organization, and it is NOT independent. To assert anything else lacks integrity + is patently false.
Hockey Canada has asserted solicitor-client privilege when it comes to learning what recommendations were made regarding policy following the investigation by Danielle Robitaille and their law firm.
To announce this the same day as announcing execs who covered up sexual misconduct continue in the org, is just so on brand to the state of Canadian sport on so many different levels.
Will never understand how people can take a paycheck to be used like this.
I played w Ada Hegerberg + Anja Sonstevold of Norway WNT when they were 14/16. They trained at a pro level 5x/week w a game + at school 3 mornings a week w top coaches. Compare that to Canada/US teenager experience. That's the gap we are starting to see w pro leagues worldwide.
I finally broke + turned on Ted Lasso. 6 episodes into my binge and I get the hype. The world would be a better place if everyone had a coach like Ted Lasso. I love the message that building up people + a positive environment is what matters + eventually gets results. The end.
Honestly, feel sick after reading this. Mostly on a human level at how so many people knew how egregious Birarda's conduct was on so many levels + did nothing.
It also confirms on page 41 + page 90 that current CONCACAF Pres/VP of FIFA VM, was directly involved in the cover up.
New: In a 125-page report examining how Canada Soccer responded to allegations that 2008 Canada U20 head coach Bob Birarda was a predator, lawyer Richard McLaren concluded there has been "a failure to take accountability for what occurred in 2008."
Looking forward to our
@TreatyUnitedFC
press conference tomorrow to share amongst other things, more about our vision for Treaty moving forward and how the partnership with Tricor Pacific Capital came about
#welcometotreaty
As Birarda goes for his 2nd court date today on 9 sex charges, my wish is that all sports organizations not just say they care about player safety, but take real steps to give athletes positive + safe environments. Without it, the mental carnage is real + it matters
#BellLetsTalk
For those saying a judicial inquiry is not needed bc it will traumatize athletes to share their stories again: as someone that spent 11 years telling the story of abuse to a black hole, I would happily tell it again in a safe, trauma-informed environment if it meant real change.
Fitting on a day that Ireland's WNT is about to play in front of 40,000 people at the Aviva, that a 14 year ago (2009!) Facebook memory would pop up of me +
@MarieCurtin
running into each other outside the airport bathroom, about to change into our WNT tracksuits.

I’ve heard that Whitecaps are releasing the report tomorrow. Incredibly Whitecaps-esque to do it on the Wednesday before Christmas, but better than nothing. They paid for it - expecting that will be reflected in content. Thx to the public for putting pressure on for the release.
