We are proud to announce that one of this year’s recipients of the 🇩🇪-🇫🇷 Human Rights awards is Dr. Choman Hardi, an outstanding personality and human rights champion who’s work is contributing to the promotion of equality of men and women in 🇮🇶. Congratulations Dr. Choman!
Go on, keep being complicit in the Turkish war against the Kurds! Keep killing us with your silence! Keep buying Turkish goods, keep holidaying in Turkey, keep not listening! You are only focusing on your own life, after all. Politics is not your thing!
We tried to hold our vigil in support of the resistance in Kurdistan and Iran but asaysh attacked us with tear-gas and plastic bullets, pushing and intimidating us, forcing us to disperse. We are limping and raging and trying to regroup right now.
At the Kurdish Studies conference in the LSE, my first book signing! Whispering Walls, a novel about walls created by trauma, patriarchy’s costs to men and women, migration, and sibling relations.

We fight against the domination of one sex over the other and for equality. We fight for sharing power, opportunities, and freedoms. All of our good work is undone by an image like the one you shared, Helly Luv.
It has been a tough year for all of us but there is also progress! Thanks to AUIS for the opportunity to grow and to develop good things. I have been promoted to the rank of associate professor.
Yesterday, I told my 8 year old about slavery, racism, George Floyd, and

Enough of the negativity and sadness. This serious little girl is me. I was a refugee child, carrying the burden of history. I want to tell her that it will be okay and she will go home! And she will love and laugh and fight with all her might. I hope other refugee kids will too.
One of the most iconic and important moments in Kurdish history. A political and moral statement. A Kurdish woman's voice shook up Turkish parliament. You represented Kurdish women of our history in the most powerful way. Rojbuna te pîroz be 🔥

These 3 women presenters are good foot-soldiers of patriarchy! They undermine women so that men keep their privilege and power. Well done

Based on my own experience of working on women’s rights and Kurdish rights, I want to suggest tips for being a good ally to an oppressed group at times of crisis (black people, women, working class communities, Ezidis, Palestinians, Kurds, etc).
Outrageous! It reminds me of the gassing by Saddam Hussein which went unacknowledged until he invaded Kuwait in 1991. Nation state leaders should be ashamed of themselves.
Tonight at 9:05 on NRT, Event and History program, speaking about feminism and Kurdish women's history.

What is the purpose of this show? And why call it Girl Talk? To portray women as shallow beings who giggle along when a misogynist disrespects women and when a woman says she will do botox every sex months BUT interrupt a woman who speaks sense? Shameless media practice.
The fact that many Kurdish men are offended by and denying this basic fact in their replies to Alka’s tweet, is telling in itself. You can't tackle a problem if you deny it. But this is a failing strategy. Like it or not things will change. Well done Alka.
On a level of zero to Kurdish men waiting for tea after eating a meal while the women clean up, how selfish and entitled are you?

Today, long after Sewan Qadir and her 3 children were set alight by her husband, the court sentenced him to death. People attacked us for accusing “an innocent man” of murdering his “beloved” wife & children. They argued that he was “framed”!
One of the biggest weapons of patriarchy against us is our own fear. If we stop fearing what people may say about us and stop fearing rejection and backlash, if we keep speaking out for ourselves and other women we will find allies and we can change the world!
For the fascist Turkish state, this international health crisis is an opportunity to continue their persecution of the Kurds as the world is looking the other way.

I have a chapter about the women's movement in Kurdistan-Iraq, in this book. It is in good company with wonderful chapters about Kurds from all parts. Thanks for all the hard work of the editors: Hamit Bozarslan,

and Veli Yadirgi.
The Cambridge History of the Kurds is finally published! This is the most detailed book on Kurdish history published in the English language. It offers an authoritative account of Kurdish history from 15th century onwards.

This is so typical! When logic fails they attack women through her body. Failing systems of oppression become violent when threatened. This is when you know, you have really threatened and shaken them. Hang in there dear
@Dashni_Morad
. We stand by you and with you. U r wonderful.
We want to be recognised as full human beings, capable of making decisions about our bodies and lives. We want to remove the patriarchal barriers that prevent us from fulfilling our potential. We want equality, not domination.
Photos of my seminar on The Definition and Problems of Masculinity in Kurdistan-Iraq. We had a full hall and a good discussion at the end. Thanks to Dr. Basma Habib for organising and chairing this.

You are wrong. We don't want to reverse the power structure and make men "bow down" to us. We don't want to be sex objects. We don't want to put "a crown" on our heads and be queens.
1. Stop judging the legitimacy of their struggle by comparing it to your own. Stop saying: “It is the same for me/ us!” Right now, it is not about you and your pain, it is about them. Don’t take attention away from them by drawing attention to yourself, your cause, your group.
Yes, men can get feminism!
Men can be loving and emotional.
Men can be scared, undecisive, vulnerable.
Men can be confident and not scared of strong women.
Men can be scared of mice.
Men can be victims and survivors.
Men can handle equality.
Men have emotions
Men are scared of responsibilities
Men need to cry from time to time
Men are afraid of needles (maybe that’s just me)
Men support equality
Finally, the French translation of a selection of my poems was published in France. Thanks to Victor Martinez and the Kontr Editions for this wonderful gift. Love the cat!

Ne ne mourrons pas avant de voir et ressentir la vérité…
Regularly, when there is miscarriage of justice (woman is murdered, child is raped, trial is compromised, media undermines women) instead of directing their anger at perpetrators and those in power, our community blames women. Currently getting a lot of blame, so let me clarify.
It is difficult for others to understand what it feels like to be forcibly deported, to see your homes givens to “settlers,” to witness the renaming of your neighbourhoods and towns. It is difficult to imagine what it is like not to be allowed to speak your mother tongue.
Last night in New York: Women's Movements in the Middle East. Organised by the Emergency Committee for Rojava. Great to share platform with Ozlem Goner & Benedetta Argentieri (director of: I am the Revolution).

Today is the 34th anniversary of the Ba’ath government’s gas attack on Halabja, where thousands of civilians were murdered in a horrific manner. Below is the confession of a blank page, used before the gas attack.
We will never forget!
A new poem on this day, because we don't know whether we should celebrate or cry! Thanks to all the courageous women and men who fought and fight gender injustice.

This will not be the end of you. U have nothing to be ashamed off. Shame is for those who lie and bully, those who r corrupt and violent, those who steal the countrys wealth, who use and abuse women.
I keep searching for a change in the news. It will be a long and sleepless night. Our hearts are with you, Rojava!

Part of my contribution to Pirsiarge Program or Jin TV, talking about women's role in promoting and continuing patriarchy. Yes, women contribut to patriarchy because many have been socialised by culture, religion, and custom that there is no injustice in the status quo.
Shameful: a theatre group in Kalar is suspended for one year by the Directorate of Culture for “defaming the sacred!” In fact they relayed what an imam recently said: men who allow female folk to be without hijab are pimps! Since when has relaying a crime has become a crime?
In December 2019, during the first gender studies conference in Kurdistan, I was hopeful about the implementation of the MoHE decree which mandated gender studies in all KRG universities. Can't wait to resume working on this!

Kurdistan Parliament officially lifted immunity of outspoken and KDP-critic MP Soran Omar. Only KDP and minorities MPs voted in favour of lifting the immunity while PUK, Gorran, KIU, KIG, NG boycotted the session.
Due to the recent unfortunate events taken place, we in CGDS, along with AUIS staff and AUIS students, choose to take part in an awareness campaign. We strongly condemn rape and sexual abuse. It is never acceptable and we will never be silent in regards to these issues.
To the women who are struggling out there, to those who feel defeated and those who still fight back, the women who support other women and those who understand the subtleties of oppression, I love you and salute you. Happy International Women's Day!
5 Years ago on BBC World Service, Dr. Letif Tas and myself spoke about Turkish attacks on civilians in Kurdistan-Iraq, using the PKK as an excuse. Things haven't changed much since and these words are still correct.

Today was the 33rd anniversary of the Anfal genocide (Feb-Sep 1988)! On this day, 20,000 civilians from Germian were rounded up & shot at the mass graves. This is a wound that never heals, a pain that is covered with thin skin & every scratch revives it.
We r OK. Few people were detained briefly. Tried to hold on to man shoved into their car, was pushed about. I swore too much, don’t feel good about it. 1 said: If only u weren’t a woman I know what I would do to u. & the scared kids hiding from bombardements… what can I say?
We've turned to poetry in the face of violence & erasure, reclaimed our denied language & ‘survived’ through poetry. Poetry is essential like food & shelter.. survival doesn't just mean physical survival but also that of our language, history, & culture.
Dear friends! I will be in New York between March 6th and 14th. I will give a talk at the City University of New York on the 6th and another at the City College of New York in Harlem on the 10th (see below). Please let me know if you have time to meet.

How awesome is it that I get to call myself a full-time feminist?
I dreamt I was in a big house with many sleeping strangers. I tried to set the house on fire but failed. My efforts made loads of smoke, which killed two people. I managed to wake the rest and get them out of the house. Was it the house of patriarchy, were the strangers awoken?
I‘m amazed by our society’s definition of “good” and “bad” men. I’m shocked when I see that a man’s mistreatment of a woman, his oppression of her, his violence, his control of her body and life, do not become reasons to see him as disagreeable... people believe these r “private”
Make sure you read this amazing article by Dr.
