Me, researching to verify some igbo cultural thing. Finds academic paper, good, good. Sees mention of Leviticus and Deuteronomy and nopes out.
Igbo people, I am begging you to stop this nonsense. You're not the twelfth tribe of Israel. You're not descended from Abraham.
STOP.
After my book got optioned successfully, I was able to buy a small place, put something aside for the kids and travel. Plus my book two sold, and I helped people with their housing and other costs.
2024: what a fantastic year! Just waiting for the world to catch up. 😁
Pay me, I didn't come into the world to eat sand.
Pay me. I've been working for decades while people laughed, told me to get a job, asked where I thought this was all leading, did I think I was special or what?
Pay me. I have 2 kids, 7 guineas, a puppy and the will to live.
How do you think you will live, truly live, without the arts?
This is how you die: first they make you think the arts are inferior, then they cut off funding, and now you have nowhere, nothing, between the relentless grind of capitalism and death.
Igbo kids, young ones, please listen up. Despite what Akwaeke Emezi has written in Freshwater, the python is *not* Ani/Ala's messenger. Yes the earth is her dominion but the python is IDEMILI's messenger. She is a regional goddess of the river named for her in ANAMBRA STATE. 1/

Shower gel, body sponge, pumice stone for feet. Hand for intimate washing + intimate wash. Facial sponge + facial wash. Then do body again for the ancestors.
Stop asking short story writers when their novels are coming. The short form is valid in its own right and is not necessarily a stepping stone to longer form stuff.
Celebrate what they have produced on its own merits, not as a precursor. Think Alice Munro.

is here. Tried to do a happy, screaming video but halfway through coming upstairs I started weeping like a dickhead. Nobody died, yet, here I am. Jesus Christ. Millenials are truly the worst.
My agent
@lucycmorris
is open to submissions. Obviously, I would like to keep her all to myself but she treats me so well, is efficient and professional that not sharing this info would be cruelty.
God I hate this, but like submit to her or whatever.
What a glorious day. I am grateful for every cheer, every copy, every applause, every note or tweet of goodwill, every bouquet literal or figurative.

When you steal from writers, know that no hill or mountain, no body of water, no expanse of firmament can save you from the truckload of bad karma about to befall your existence.
BUY OUR WORK. It is work that feeds families. We depend on it to live. BUY BOOKS.
So, I did a thing which I wasn't going to share but people liked it so...I guess, here we go. The DEFINITIVE

Watching Unwell on Netflix and oh my goodness "Anyone can afford $77 even if they are on food stamps" is the whitest, most privileged shit I've ever heard.
"Stop drinking Starbucks two days in a row"???! Throw the whole man in the dọti.
I didn't write this book for a lot of people and I didn't want to follow certain formulae so naturally it can be frustrating. But, I wrote the book I wanted to write so thank you for the review, Guardian! As a reader, this is a dream come true. Thank you, thank you!
Huzzah! Thrilled to announce that Dazzling has made

Congratulations to all winners, especially Ada Nnadi who's a joint winner with me. Thank you to everyone who voted. Today we rejoice. Tomorrow, we keep striving to

People also forget the first part of his name 'Ekwe'. You kinda have to 'let him' before he causes the thing to 'su'.
He's not just roaming around looking for trouble. He's not jobless.
Writing is the best job in the world and I'm glad I fought for the chance to do what I was put on earth for.
Thank you to my early readers from when I was an anon blogger, to trying stuff on Igbophilia, and other people's blogs.
THANK YOU to anyone who's ever supported me.
Kidlet is six. Today she wrote a book and drew the illustrations. The story was coherent. The drawings were consistent. The ending was satisfying.
You guys. My pals. WE'VE GOT ONE. We made a writer and illustrator!
This is the child that writes lyrics and composes tunes too.😭
Why are people so afraid of feelings? Have them. CATCH THEM, for godssake! How on earth are you going through life a collector's item, still in your original packaging? Life happens *away* from those light-recessed shelves. Life is on the playroom floor. Choose life!
Wooooohoooo! I don't know how Dazzling got to the Oklahoma Bestseller list but boy am I glad it did!

Thanks to everyone who has read, listened to, shared & reviewed Dazzling. If you haven't, now is your chance!
Stop buying dresses Chịkọdịlị, you only have one body. It doesn't matter if they have pockets. It doesn't matter that it's your debut year. Yes, yes, dresses pretty. Stop it. Stop it.
I said what I said. And if you're a chief or titled person who believes Igbo is descended from Abraham, you need your eagle feather taken from you. You are using your position to spead falsehoods.
Tueh for you. May the ancestors have mercy on your soul for you're lost.
@valerievaldes
Not at all! I quit Twitter for a bit and when I returned, I had to sign up for a new account. How are you?! Why are you exposing us to feels and making us cry?
I am at the BEGINNING of my career. People think because you might be X age and have published a book, you're in the middle. Let me correct you:
I am just starting out.
Being an Igbo writer is recognising that despite Achebe etc, our culture, myths, deities, our folklore & religion are relatively little known. Work that is strident, incorrect and/or self-serving about our traditions is one we can ill afford.
Collectivism and love must lead 💯.
Kid comes down to where I'm folding laundry in the utility room and sighs a massive sigh.
"What is it?" I ask.
"Dazzling is *such* a good book," he replies.
I'm wondering if it's too late to add this to my blurb.
So, two weeks ago...or was it three? I finished my novel.
You are all going to love it. Or hate it. One thing you won't be able to do is ignore it.
I hope it rips your guts out.

First pregnancy: BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOBS
Massive and felt weird. Just breasting boobily everywhere.
Thank you to everyone in the world who has bought, borrowed, listened to, read, stocked, reviewed and recommend Dazzling. Thank you for all the interviews and podcasts.

You want to see mind-bending, experimental, brave, bizarre, writing? Try 'genre'. Sci-fi, horror, fantasy, magic realism, fabulism.
I miss reading and writing short stories so, getting back into it soon.
Dazzling US got another beautiful trade review from Library Journal:
“Evocative and a little mysterious, this literary fantasy is immersive and full of Nigerian mythology. Recommend this lustrous coming-of-age story to those who like to read across genres.”
Yiiii!
Thrilled to be shortlisted for this year's AKO Caine Prize. Thank you to
@DanCoxonAuthor
for including this piece in 'Tales from the Shadowbooth' vol 2, and, for the last few days. By the way, have you bought the anthology yet?
Do!
Today I feel desperate, as if I will never write another book, much less sell one. There are too many ideas. I am fighting against the current of life and homeschooling and dwindling cash and hypersomnia and cortisol belly.
I also know feelings are not facts.
We didn't grow up with a mother who was into PDA or verbal affirmation, so now if my siblings send 'positive' quotes they sound threatening and I have to check that my weapons are in order because am I in trouble or are you?
But happy US pub day to me, I guess.
I'm in

Oh and our witchy event? COMPLETELY SOLD OUT.
I'm thrilled to FINALLY announce that I'm a juror for next year's

awards. Honoured and humbled by my fellow jurors and excited to discover the sort of work that best represents Shirley Jackson's legacy. Lots of reading ahead! Nsopuru na otito diri chineke.
Sometimes, it simply ASTONISHES me that I meet people who haven't yet experienced the splendour and majesty of Lesley Nneka Arimah.
Do yourself a favour if you're one of these: grab her collection.
you have to understand,
that no one puts their children in a boat
unless the water is safer than the land
[...]
no one spends days and nights in the stomach of a truck
feeding on newspaper unless the miles travelled
means something more than journey.

Book Depository liked Dazzling so much they listed it twice in Best Books? That's the tweet today.
Find me in a field somewhere, running around without clothes.

How does an insipid "Good morning" compare with "Have you broken the dawn?" After all, mgbe onye jiri bilie bu ututu ya, literally and figuratively, so only an individual can decide upon the breaking of their own dawn/when their day dawns.
Me, in Waterstones Eastbourne, searching for
#Dazzling
to no avail. I get in the queue and ask for it.
"Oh, I know it!" says the sales rep excitedly, before she has typed a word. "Sadly, we're out of stock at the moment."
The kids and I scream and start dancing.

Doesn't it feel strange to you, telling someone who has declared their testimony what *you* think it is instead? I'm trying to understand your thought process.
