Elated to share my article with

@SE_Lomer
@miguel_a_lim
is out! It considers TNHE as a method to examine internationalisation in China HE, and shed lights on unique challenges faced by returnees in internationalised contexts. Open access:
Met my supervisory team
@SE_Lomer
@JLMittelmeier
@miguel_a_lim
for a proper celebration and they gave me an embosser with words “from the library of Dr. Bowen Zhang”🥺
Never felt so sentimental about finishing PhD😭
My first book chapter with my supervisor
@JLMittelmeier
is ouuuut! We discussed internationalisation symbolising as linguistic forms, the associated ideological and critical aspects. Thanks so much
@BeeBond1
@IanBruc19234684
for having us!
Lovely new book from
@IanBruc19234684

I've got a chapter in there with
@charlzhang1996
about "The ideologies and practices of internationalisation in universities"🤗
I wrote a thing for
@BERANews
!
Being a Master student and now a PhD student in education that surrounded by Chinese fellow students, I always to feel the urge to write about this special kind of internationalisation.
Would appreciate any feedback🙏

Great to be back and engage academically again at Glasgow😎
This is my first time presenting at

I’ll be presenting on
@SRHE73
annual conference in this December! Can’t wait to discuss the experiences of Chinese returnee staff in an international joint uni. One of the great endings of this year!
I am very grateful for the past 2 days at
#WESCIHE23
at Boston College. I am impressed by how meticulous everyone’s work is, and how approachable they are! It is great to connect with scholars and have intellectually challenging conversations. And
@BettyLeask
even singed for me!
It is such a delight to have been involved in
#BERAWERA2024
! I shared thoughts on the way university websites construct internationalisation. Always a pleasure meeting old and new friends and connecting academically, or not:)
My first poster session! It’s amazing to hear so many interesting presentations at
#BAAL2023York
. I finally meet
@ibrar_bhatt
my supportive colleague and friend😆, also bonding with

Pleasure to participate in
#RIS23
and present with
@boyinloye
- such an organised event and even with a quiet room for people to take a break (can't reiterate this enough…). Thanks
@JLMittelmeier
and it is amazing to chair your session! (Also with
@YusufOldac
and
@TangTHeng1
)
An absolutely joy to have so many Research with International Students authors in one place (18 out of 49 - and a few more who left for trains before this photo). I’ll treasure today forever ❤️❤️
I have shared it on 小红书 - a Chinese social media and it has gone quite viral.
I was deeply disturbed because of the initial request on deleting my Chinese name, feels like they’re asking me to erasing my identity. This presentation policy NEEDS to be changed for inclusiveness.
Me and
@JLMittelmeier
have sent emails. Yesterday, we got reply, they approved it but saying it is because there’s a precedent in 2019. This is to ensure consistency in enacting policy. I want to ask: why do
@OfficialUoM
allow such inconsistency with its EDI agenda of university?
Really glad to have presented on
#chinahe21
of my research so far! Accomplishment unlocked: being able to receive several questions without leaving chair awkward. Warmly thanks for the organisers and for

@Yukaidong
for your brilliant comments!
First time joining the in-person event

Looking forward to the launch of

@boyinloye
and I contributed a chapter on decolonising research. It’s been such a pleasure working with her and drawing from her rich knowledge on decolonising theory. Can’t wait!
It’s my great pleasure to kick off the research seminar series at
@DUSofE
as a new lecturer. In this talk, I will look beyond the Westernisation critique of transnational higher education and focus on the lived aspects of internationalisation. Join us! ⬇️
Hey thanks everyone for the congrats! But apparently, something happen today makes the whole this less exciting. So my Chinese name is not allowed on the title page? And how is it inclusive?
Excited to talk about my thoughts on TNHE with the amazing
@Yu_Jingran
whose work being my go-to citation:) Thanks for
@UoMChina
for organising and please join us on 28th April!
We made it, despite the odds! I’m grateful to all the speakers/presenters for the questions they raised, thoughts they provoked and discussions exchanged. I’ve also reflected on my role and all the responsibilities associated with being BPCS committee, which is a great lesson.
3 days, 18 panels, 16 themes, 116 submissions, 62 speakers joining from different parts of the world - hereby concluded our wonderful BPCS 2021 Annual Conference! Please accept our sincere gratitude and appreciation for your support and participation, we'll see you next year!

Gratitude to

Very proud of DR

@NickieRoake
for organising a session on “demystifying the annual review” - it’s so informative and entertaining! A lot of useful tips for becoming a cordial and not-too-cynical reviewer:)
I always feel the normalisation of framing international students as a homogenous and deficit group, either in their home or the destination country. I love the way my respectable supervisors
@SE_Lomer
@JLMittelmeier
elegantly yet powerfully brought it into attention.

finds little effect on pedagogy despite increasing number of international students in UK. Deficit models and assimilationist practice predominate and contribute to 'epistemic exclusion'.

I can feel this struggle EVERY SINGLE day. People say things like “anyone can do a self-funded PhD”. I think about quit after hearing the ludicrous amount of financial support my colleagues receive. But seriously, doesn’t “researching without funding” prove our enthusiasm?
While I don't understand my brilliant friend Yongxuan's article in every detail (basically none), he's the most enthusiastic and insightful sociologist I know!! Glad his talent got acknowledged.
Delighted that my article 'Towards Relational Sociology: Space, Relation and Simmel’s Modernity' is out (OnlineFirst). I introduce space into the epistemology of relational sociology to construct a relational spatiality.

I am in academia. I know theories. Yet my mother still refuse to have a serious talk with me and treat me like an adult who is able to make decisions after all these years. I'm outraged.
"(The use of theme-emerging) can be misinterpreted to mean that themes ‘reside’ in the data, and if we just look hard enough they will ‘emerge’ like Venus on the half shell." (Ely et al.,1997: 205-206) Thanks
@JLMittelmeier
for the invaluable readings on thematic analysis!
Two cancellations in a row. I am appalled by the inhumane way
@British_Airways
treated its customer. They apparently do not understand how hard it is to fly internationally - and just so u know, an unapologetic text simply inform about cancellation DOES NOT WORK. (More in thread)
For our next seminar, we have
@Sherlockliu221b
(PhD candidate at the University of Manchester) presenting "Liu Bang’s Uprising of Slaying White Serpent: Supernatural Legend & Legitimacy Construction of Chinese Early Empire".
Time: Wed 2 June 1pm

It’s been nearly 24 hours after I checked out from Boston Hilton Hotel. And I will be arriving in London 36 hours late than planned. Also the tedious paperwork for compensation…I am not sure if I still want to travel internationally, this is not the risk I am willing to take…
They got me a flight to London tonight, arriving at 10pm. Only if it did not cancel, I will be in London too late to get a train back to Manchester. Not sure if
@British_Airways
would cover this for me. My plan disrupted, mental health condition worsen, myself drained.
We are proud to present our first seminar in 20-21 academic year! Please find the abstract below.
