It's not "ship bait" for two characters to slowly form a strong bond over the course of the show. their relationship is pretty darn important to each of their respective character arcs, and even if you dislike the ship, you can literally just say that!!

Idk how they handled it in the mobile ports of the DS games, but it seems like they dropped Lani Minella in the Ace Attorney crossover and just used Maria Darling in both versions. So I guess they'll probably do the same thing in NWOS
