Great Salt Lake drying up & Mexico City hitting “day zero” are 2 examples of the same problem: water diversions in endorheic (closed) basins. In UT, water is diverted for ag; in MX it’s to avoid flooding. In both cases, lakes die, groundwater doesn’t get recharged, dust abounds.

Just finished Lydia Otero’s LA Interchanges, a stunning memoir of moving on a whim from Tucson to LA, seeking out & eventually leading queer of color organizing,& crossing paths w the likes of Laura Aguilar, Emma Pérez & Gloria Anzaldúa before their names were on our bookshelves:
