Two from my PUC (XII) class went to IIT-Madras. one is a prof of ECE in US, another is with Goldman Sachs IIRC. Plenty of others who studied in Bangalore University Engg colleges also did those things. IIT is not some ticket to Mars where I'm from. Meh.

False "choice". They are not competing. My kids can do both (more than one programming language and more than one Indian language other than English). It's ok to admit you didn't care enough about teaching your kids Hindi.

Metro: 3yo boy wearing cool shades walked in with his family, dad sat next to me. I put on my dark shades and tapped them to indicate "hey, me too buddy 😎". little guy melted away. Dad said, "give handshake". We shook hands 😌
