“Entering a state of wonder is akin to using a muscle, Ms. May said. Put yourself in that mind-set more often and it gradually becomes easier.” Practicing joy in an uncertain world:
Katherine May, a best-selling author, describes how a series of actions helped her to discover little things that filled her with wonder and awe — and, in turn, made her feel alive again.
She has one simple question to help you get started.
Personal news time!! Tuesday is my last day at IHP. I’m headed to Modern Healthcare, where I’ll be covering the regulatory space. I can’t speak highly enough of my IHP teammates, they’re truly lovely people (not to mention fabulous reporters) & I’ll miss them lots!
Today I wrote a piece — complete w/White House input?! — covering the ongoing Biden-Manchin impasse & Build Back Better. I’ve honestly struggled w/imposter syndrome getting to this point so it doesn’t feel entirely real, but I’m also just feeling very proud of myself.

There are major student walkouts supposedly occurring yesterday/today in solidarity with a Muslim student who was brutalized by another student (an event which is now being downplayed by Fairfax High School admin, say students).
This protest is currently happening at Fairfax High School. There was an racist attack on a Muslim student who had her hijab ripped off. No punishment was given by the school so students decided to protest
@ButlerSGA
Just a reminder that
@butlercollegian
has been doing exactly this for 167 years, and has won countless awards for it despite immense pressure from both SGA and the Butler administration.
Super excited to share that The Collegian has been announced as a finalist for the 2021 Pacemaker Award — essentially the Pulitzers for collegiate media. Celebrate by giving
@butlercollegian
a follow!!!
My mom texted this to me earlier today, having a very sweet full circle moment this morning (I am still small in Statuary Hall, just with a less cute coat)
@ButlerSGA
@butlercollegian
I would also add that attempting to downplay contributions from the only independent news outlet on campus whilst peddling “journalism opportunities” and seeking to poach writers via pay (rates SGA approached Collegian to discuss) is outrageous & incredibly offensive.
I walked across a suspension bridge over a waterfall without dying, my brother & sister open-air zip lined over the same falls lol it’s the proportional victories today
Today's tree pollen count in DC (before the rain) is 1,016 grains per cubic meter of air. The average is 75 at this time of year.
Not normal. At all.
Ahchoo!
It is with great sadness that I’m announcing my decision to drink coffee at 6 pm. I’d appreciate your thoughts and prayers as I prepare for the difficult time ahead (sleeping tonight)
@ButlerSGA
@butlercollegian
I’d also add that advertising this as “journalism” is blatantly inaccurate. While the content might be informative, in-house writing like this newsletter is promotional, not actual journalism. It is not free from the bias of the government which‘ll produce it.
The Olympics started 2 minutes ago and I am already convinced the absolute best part of this year’s games is Flavor Flav’s sponsorship of the women’s water polo team & how fucking jazzed he is for them I’m so obsessed

Sometimes on the metro you sit across from someone with a bouquet of flowers, other times it’s a guy checking the directions on the hemorrhoids medication box
wrapped day is the best day of the year!!! I love seeing all the tunes you listened to & I love talking about them & I am so excited for all the things you’ll get to listen to in the new year ⭐️

Routine reminder that some trans men, non-binary people and intersex people can menstruate, become pregnant, experience childbirth & receive (or be denied) an abortion! Let’s use gender neutral language when we talk about reproductive health 🌻
As many as 20% of postpartum people struggle w/postpartum depression, per NIH, & CMS/CDC say one of the leading causes of pregnancy-related mortality is mental health conditions. Stigma often stands in the way of getting a diagnosis/accessing treatment:
Problems arose between Sophie Turner & Joe Jonas after she was struggling following the birth of their second child and Joe was “less than supportive,” a source tells

Joe reportedly complained that Sophie wasn’t attending enough events and felt she needed to get out more.

I know there’s so much else going on here but I’m heartbroken over the KidsPost cancellation — I grew up on those pieces, & it was one of the things that really got me into reading & storytelling 😭

The intention behind this is to attack
@butlercollegian
, there is no other way to interpret it. SGA — and by extension,
@butleru
— dislike being scrutinized by an independent group, so they’ve devised a way to hamstring it.
So proud of this amazing team of student journalists and editors from The Butler Collegian

Your $750,000 annual budget comes directly from student activity fees, which supports paying for your marketing via newsletter. The independent
@butlercollegian
would love to have that kind of budget to continue covering real news on campus as it has for the last 167 years.
I regret to inform everyone that it is once again allergy season, commence taking your silly little medications or else you’ll end up like this angry frog

“The ability to bend an inch at a time while seeming to stand up straight is a useful and gendered skill. Most women I know do it regularly. They bend until they’re pretzeled and then blame themselves for the body aches.”
