The revised and expanded Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien affirm one major thing: Tolkien was even more Catholic than any of us expected him to be. And, many of us already thought he was really, really Catholic.
I'm so tired of progressives calling conservatives fascists. Please look back to the Italians of the 1910s and 1920s, the founders of fascism. They clearly identified fascism with progressivism and futurism, radically dismissing the past and especially the Catholic Church.
Forgive me, but I have to say this as well. Corey Comperatore died as an absolute hero. He wasn't escorted to heaven by any mere angels, he was escorted by the Valkyrie or the Valar. Spoiler: every one of us is going to die. Not every one of us is going to die saving our spouse,
In theory, I was a hard-core free trade/free immigration/libertarian guy. Not so taken with such things now. I think we need to secure the southern border. . . ASAP.
At a private meeting with President Gorbachev, Ray Bradbury asked him what he thought of Ronald Reagan.
"Your greatest president," Gorbachev responded. "None of your other presidents ever said, "Tear down the Wall.'"
From a private conversation. . . the "anti-war" Left is a myth. It existed only during the Vietnam era. Otherwise, the American left has favored war since World War I. Almost a full century of being pro-war (again, with the exception of the late 1960s and early 1970s).
My oldest, Nathaniel, who lives in Jerusalem, spent the Iranian bombardment last night in the house chapel, reading St. Paul's first letter to the Corinthians in Greek.
So many critics (many of them simply mocking) asking why God would save Trump, when he would allow a fireman and devout father to die. Honestly, aren't these deeply theological questions. Why not Isaac? Why Jesus? I've asked this a million times in my own life--why my
Woke up yesterday with a complete corena rupture in my left eye! Crazy, especially given that I only have sight in one eye (I'm blind in my right eye, due to a childhood accident--yeah, I'm that kid your mother warned you about!). My sight is nearly restored this afternoon!
When it comes to war, there's a VERY slippery slope. Biden's F16 move is absolute insanity. I beg my twitter friends to take this seriously. The U.S. Constitution says that only Congress can declare war. Meaning, the only body represented by the people can declare war.
I'm not a Trump guy. Never have been. But, I see absolutely NOTHING appealing about Biden. What a frustrating year. Yeah, I know--some of you will say, "get over it." But, I'm more with George Washington on this--political parties are just plain evil.
This coming fall, I will have been at Hillsdale for 25 years. I have taught elsewhere, too, and HC is, by far, the freest and most tolerant place I've ever worked. And, it has an amazing mission, amazing faculty, and amazing students. Yes, amazing is the proper word.
I am so deeply honored to have read this excellent book in manuscript form. Can’t wait to hold the actual book in my hands. A huge congratulations to my great friend and colleague,

Some personal news! Im so grateful to

It takes a village to raise a child. Millennials and Gen. Z find parenting too daunting, which is why the birthrate is plummeting.
The problem is our family unfriendly culture.
We lack a fertile ecosystem for raising kids. So I wrote a book about it.
FYI, the Soviets murdered 62 million of their own folks; China murdered 65 million of their own folks; and Cambodia murdered one out of every two Cambodians, 1975-1978. Just a little Communist history. The NAZIs were utterly evil, but the Communists were utterly, utterly evil.
“Thirty-five years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, liberals like those behind The Incomparable Mr. Buckley persist in treating Communism as a footnote to McCarthyism.”
When I first heard A-Ha's "Take on Me" back in 1984, I never imagined that forty years later, my twelve-year old daughter would be playing it on the piano!
I will admit that I consider
@PatrickDeneen
one of my closest friends--so, feel free to note the bias--but I'm really tired of the critiques of the great man. Disagree with him all you want, but don't label him as anything less than genius. He is, to be sure, genius.
As of this moment, there are over 335 million Americans. Imagine believing that the two best candidates for the presidency are Joe Biden and Donald Trump. Seriously, just imagine that for a moment. . .
A decade ago, I wrote a manuscript for a small Catholic press called BESIEGED. The press rejected it by calling for so many edits as to make the manuscript unrecognizable. Such is life. I'll now be publishing the book in serialized form through The Imaginative Conservative.
