Not a single fucking doctor or healthcare worker interviewed by ENCA post the president's address.
But they did have TWO alcohol industry reps.
Tells you all you need to know.
Graeme Smith - who was drawn and quartered by many on here - had the accusations levelled against him tested in a proper legal setting and was unanimously cleared of said charges. Twitter justice is not, will not be, & should never, ever replace actual justice. It's mob law.
A good start would be bringing people like Dr Imtiaz Sooliman into government. Or, if he declines, provide Gift of the Givers (and similar orgs) with state resources to carry out their work. We need to do things differently now.

Spoke to 2 doctor friends tonight who are on the front line here in CT. And let me tell you, we have NO idea how bad things are. Lord help anyone who needs ICU care (covid or not) over the next few weeks.
I emplore everyone: stay home, wash your hands, wear a mask.
I'm the calmest person you could ever meet but I'm going to be PISSED off if we all have to suffer another lockdown and 4th wave, just because selfish people refuse to take a vaccine that's freely available to them. ๐ก
Once today's issues are resolved, there is definitely a conversation to be had about how these amazing new law enforcement capabilities were all suddenly able to be fully utilised...at the drop of a hat. Proving the functionality is there when political will demands.
I'm sorry, there are no 'both sides' in the vaccination 'debate', just as there are no 'both sides' to racism, BLM etc. Whatever the reason, you are literally either on the side of life or death here.
When Cyril speaks next, we need the strongest possible response from government. And we need real consequences for not being vaccinated. We cannot go on in this perpetual cycle of death and destruction. The time for nice talk is over.
I'm seeing reports all over the show of empty vaccination sites. The president confirmed last night that we have enough stock to cover vaccines for everyone.
A few months ago all and sundry were blaming government for non-procurement. And yet, here we are...
What is it going to take for white South Africans to understand black pain in this country? Particularly pain caused by the legacy of our past. We've asked this for 27 years and I feel we're no closer to an answer (with a few exceptions, of course).
I keep saying (and will absolutely die on this hill): for the vast majority of S Africans, the things that bind us together are stronger than the things that tear us apart. We all have a shared destiny, and it's in everyone's interest to work together in achieving it.
I don't think we will see the likes of the global tributes we have seen for Archbishop Tutu today, for any leader, ever again. Certainly not in my lifetime. What an absolute giant of a human being. ๐
Siding with international pariahs, scapegoating foreigners, showing consistently shocking disregard for OUR OWN poor and vulnerable... we are in danger of becoming everything Mandela said we shouldn't.
Seriously, it cannot be overstated what Patricia De Lille has achieved today. She almost single handedly stared down the full onslaught of the DA's PR, legal and dirty tricks machine.... AND WON.
Incredible.
Up until 30 years ago, S Africa was empirically & objectively the most racist country on earth (an argument could be made it still is but that's a seperate convo). (Most) whites spend their whole lives too afraid to confront this truth- hence responses like we've seen this week.
I don't think any other country in the world could cheekily frame their presidential Covid briefings as 'family meetings' ๐คฃ.
We have our problems, sure, but there is a uniqueness and spirit we have that definitely sets us apart ๐๐ฟ๐ฆ.
As we stare down the barrel of a 4th wave (and yet another lockdown), at some point we have to admit that misinformation (in this case about the vaccine) has now become an existential threat. The question is...what are we as a country going to do about it?
What's happening at News24 seems to be indicative of what's happening at many media desks around the world: Rampant juniorisation, chasing clickbait at the expense of accuracy/substance, and a general disregard for basic journalistic standards.
Glorified blogs, basically.
Here's the thing: it's 100% authentic, not just a feel-good marketing campaign. People aren't stupid, they know when something is genuine or not...and South Africans have completely embraced that (& the Springboks), because they know these values represent the best of who we are.
I love that South Africa has entered the era of celebrating our collective passion, diversity, courage and uniqueness.
We genuinely know that we are stronger together.
And itโs an extraordinary, beautiful thing.
There are THOUSANDS of kids like these throughout the Eastern Cape, just waiting to be discovered. Cricket (and rugby) is part of the DNA of the region. It's in the soil, in the blood.

This has to be our lowest post democratic point (and that's saying something). Selling weapons to a rogue, autocratic state that invaded a sovereign nation, while publicly professing 'non aligned' status to the world. Even by ANC standards, that's bottom of the barrel stuff.
I haven't seen such a reaction in a while...people are just TIRED man. And properly fucked off. Almost 30 years of this constant BS, being told to 'let it go' or 'just move on'. Something has to give...this is not how a normal, inclusive, post apartheid society is built.
On a commercial level, this

really is a superb product. I know he's not the only one responsible, but it has Graeme Smith excellence written all over it.
I've always wondered how - if white S Africans were always as wonderful & altruistic as they would have people believe - apartheid was able to perpetuate itself for so long. And I think I'm beginning to see the answer when I look at contemporary responses to various events.
Dis-Chem reported it had delivered double-digit growth in full-year earnings and dividends, gaining market share in the process, even as its diesel expenses to mitigate load shedding soared nearly two-thirds.

This is awful. Can't take taxis because the industry dgaf about their commuters. Can't take buses because same industry threatens violence. Can't take trains because national govt ate the money for the trains (but likely that they would be targeted too). People deserve better.
I really struggle to reconcile a world where there is so much BASIC need...with a world where indulgent excess is flouted with disdain. I'm not judging, because we all want (and deserve) nice things...but man there has to be a point at the top level when enough becomes enough.
Both GHL and Winde spoke about the need for a leader that can 'motivate voters to come out and vote' in 2024. I can tell them both for free that JS is going to motivate fokol.

Ok so the turnout numbers weren't great, but we had another free and fair election with no (largescale) violence. Given our history, this will always be an achievement. We shouldn't take it for granted.

It is imperative that municipalities must have credible, sustainable and well-managed revenue collection programmes that apply fair and equitable standards to all customers. Citizens should play their part by paying for services. All businesses and government departments must pay
As an aside, that's 2 attempted insurrections in 2 constitutional democracies in 7 months. Both largely driven by extremist social media campaigns. We need to have long, hard sit down with the tech companies about the way they do things - this can't become the norm.
Benni McCarthy speaks English, Dutch, Portuguese and Spanish. 90% of United's attacking players speak one of these (as a 1st language). Think about that for a moment.
The biggest indictment against apartheid is the fucking mess we're sitting with today...which is as a DIRECT result of that idiotic monstrosity of a system. Go argue with grandparents.
โDemocrats, we have the privilege and massive responsibility to be the first party in South Africa in 75 years to go from opposition into a leading role in government. And our party has not experienced this since the National Party won its's first election.โ - John Steenhuisen.

We all know who has been complaining about the Athaan in Cape Town. Coloured communities - which include people of all religious persuasions - have been living together for decades harmoniously. They've always been models of religious tolerance. So let's be clear on that.
One day we need to have a conversation about how the end of apartheid coincided with the fall of communism, which in turn opened up global markets like never before, leading to a culture of rampant crass commercialism & consumption in emerging markets. Often persued at any cost.
Alleged looter Arthur Mafokate seemingly used money he received from the National Lotteries Commission to purchase a swanky lodge; pay rent for his 999 Music company; buy laptops, printers, cameras & furniture; & purchase a vehicle that used to shuttle his ex-girlfriend, Chomee.

There were millions of kids watching that, including my 6 year old nephew who's an F1 maniac. So happy that they all saw Lewis react the way he did. In sport - as in life - you're not going to get all the calls.
One thing that also stands out for me in this Nando's/Cliff debacle is that we don't need political parties to be our proxies on issues of common humanity and principle. This was a largely apolitical, organic public backlash/campaign against bigotry.
I've just seen this headline (long day) and I understand the justified reaction now. ANY association with these right wing, racist groups should be condemned outright. It's shockingly poor judgement from the DA to associate themselves IN ANY WAY whatsoever with them. Period.
