A great start to the day but how long before some highly educated expert tells us our traditional breakfast is racist?

Whilst most attention has been paid to Allegra Stratton and the Number 10 Christmas parties, the Nationality and Borders Bill has passed. The legislation allows for the Government to remove citizenship without warning, to turn back asylum seekers and criminalise their passage.
Therese Coffey says that she is "shocked" the Shadow Home Secretary "can't even get the country right," because Yvette Cooper made reference to Kigali. Kigali is, of course, the capital of Rwanda
I spoke to 3 people who have had their shifts cancelled tomorrow because of the Queens funeral. As a result, 2 have lost the budget for 2 weeks worth of food, and 1 has lot the cost of electric for a month.
The UK is still in a cost of living crisis.
Andriy, a Ukrainian trans man, has let me chronicle his story as he escaped Ukraine.
He’s safe in Berlin now, but it could have turned out so differently.
Reminder that Liz Truss hasn’t even been PM for two weeks and she’s already
- Met the Queen
- Announced the death of the Queen
- Met the King
- Spoken at the Queen’s funeral
- Done PMQs
Easily the most insane start to any PM’s time in office
It’s time for men to take responsibility for pregnancies, too, urologist
@esgarmd
told Insider. He said too many men are responsible for “irresponsible ejaculation,” and it’s time for that to stop.
A friendly reminder to anyone who started uni after 2012 to never check their student loan balance
Thanks to the current 7.8% rate, my interest is *double* my repayments and I have £8k more on my undergrad loan than I did two years ago...
Only 23 more years of repayments to go!

I spoke to some Amazon workers in Illinois this week, to talk to them about the safety conditions in light of a warehouse collapsing and killing six people. 🧵
He had to leave for his safety. He had to leave to care for his mother, and as a trans man, he had to leave to escape the vast additional risks that present LGBTQ+ people in a conflict.
Note: we love that you're all really excited about new MP Steve Darling and his guide dog, Jennie, but just a little reminder to add alt text when you're sharing pictures of new MP Steve Darling and his guide dog, Jennie💡
It's easy to do - here's an example!
🧵 Like many of the Ukrainians who woke up to the terrifying sound of shelling, Andriy, 19, realized that Putin's invasion of his homeland meant the end of his life as he knew it. He had to escape.
btw just noticed google docs will suggest you to write "wheelchair bound," don't! it is considered an unhelpful term by the disabled community and wheelchairs and other mobility aids often open up the world and increase access and are not something you are bound to. thx!
a man on tinder just told me that i shouldn’t be a journalist i should “be on the front page instead” (as like, a compliment towards my looks that doesn’t make sense). little does he know. women also write front page news stories
And since Roe v. Wade was overturned, more men are taking responsibility, he said, with

seeing an almost 100% increase in vasectomies he’s been asked to do.
We live in an area of the states called Tornado Alley. Amazon should take that seriously," Rebecca told me. But they don't, she said, as tornado drills are never practised.
Andriy decided to join the millions of refugees, but needed help from someone who understood his situation.
On March 3, he got in touch with the London-based activist and model
@raindovemodel
who is leading an effort to get trans people out of Ukraine.
Whilst the warehouse in Edwardsville, Illinois collapsed, Jeff Bezos celebrated the sixth launch of his Blue Origin rocket. McCollum said this made her and her colleagues feel "like all the employees may as well be robots or inanimate objects."
Speaking to one man who has an a vasectomy because of the overturning of Roe, he said "It seems like birth control is almost always the responsibility of the woman. And I think that's really terrible," McCamley said.
🚨 Speaking in Parliament on IWD, Bernard Jenkin MP said 436 trans women committed rape between 2012 and 2018.
The CPS has now confirmed to me that this is not correct.
Jenkin misrepresented the data.
He's now being called to withdraw his comments.
Really looking forward to saying I got a 1st in my degree, but I can’t! because i didn’t! doing a degree in a pandemic is very very hard! will be graduating with a 2:1 in Politics and Sociology :)
The cease-fire nor the legitimacy of the humanitarian corridor is not immediately verifiable, with the Mariupol City Council saying that “fighting is taking place” in part of the safe route.
Negotiations with the Russians are ongoing.
The Mariupol Mayor, Vadim Boychemko, has said:
"In conditions when our hometown is constantly under relentless fire from the occupiers, there is no other solution than to allow the residents, that is, you and me, to safely leave Mariupol."

One reason Boris Johnson gave for a lack of BSL interpreter during Covid briefings was lack of space in 10 Downing Street. Now, still, even with a £2.6m spend on a press room, there is no BSL interpreter.
Having your work on the front page of BBC news, after having your first year of freelancing being sprinkled with health issues making this line of work rather hard, is completely surreal. I’m going to have a tea cake.
"I was scared. My head was messed up, and I was tired. Thankfully, Mom told them that we've lost all the documents.
"We decided I had to whisper so that nobody would notice my deep voice, I even painted my nails violet and wore Mom's shirt," Andriy said.
"So I decided that, since I've never really wanted kids, and this procedure is not that big of a deal, I would just get this done, just because those are my beliefs, and this is a way to express them,” he said.
For those not watching the Euros and confused by the current Twitter feed: Danish player Christian Eriksen has collapsed mid-game and is having chest compressions performed on him. The BBC has not cut streaming during this incident.
One person died last week trying to shepherd people into the bathrooms. Some Amazon workers said that more Edwardsville workers might have survived if Amazon had a more rigorous focus on preparing for natural disasters.

🚨 personal/professional news klaxon
After a very, very busy news day it feels fitting to say this is my last weekend at Insider as a fellow. From next weekend, i’m being promoted to junior reporter ✨
25-year-old Alex Sanchez also spoke about his vasectomy. He told Insider that he was “devastated” at the Supreme Court ruling. He saw a tweet saying 'If you're considering getting a vasectomy, now's the time to get one,' and his decision was made.
Workers are still expected to work through extreme weathers. They can take time off, but only within the restrictions of their allotted leave. If they have no spare days to take, they have to come in during a tornado.
Dubilewski told Andriy he needed to hide his ID — to tell border enforcement that he lost it — and flee as soon as possible.
After seven hours, they found a place on a train bound for the border with Poland. But first came the dreaded document checks.
In a statement to me,
@stonewalluk
said "Trans people exist, which has been settled in law in the UK since 2004, and they should not be subjected to degrading 'debates' about whether their identities are real or an 'ideology.'”
Fake abortion clinics now number real ones 3 to 1, with about 2600 of them in the USA. Their websites contain false information about the risks of abortion, and aim to get women to give birth to foetuses they plan to abort.
allow me to blow my own trumpet for a second, but a few years ago i remember having a little cry about never being able to be a journalist because i’m just too ill, and now i get to write about disability (and 100 other things) and have it read by millions. how mad and sexy
Good morning! In a sentence that still feels slightly unbelievable, today is my first day at POLITICO as a news reporter. I’m jumping into the UK politics beat and couldn’t be happier about it 😎
And what to do during a tornado makes her and Cari, another worker I spoke to, feel unsafe: get across the five-football-field-long warehouse, and hide in a bathroom. There, there's no falling merchandise.
Fuck, and I say this with my whole chest, this
I developed horrific chronic pain as a 13 year old. I felt completely alone in my illness and was suicidal. I had a tiny tumblr blog to talk about it. Doctors told me I was being dramatic about my pain and was making it up (1/2)
Freddy McConnell (
@freddymcconnell
) spoke to me about the “distress” of seeing letters published in The Times about him and his identity, using the wrong pronouns and speaking ill of his family
Sanchez now wants to change the stigma of vasectomies and open the conversation about them. After speaking up about his procedure, he said women have thanked him and friends have gone to book their own vasectomies.
@freddymcconnell
spoke about what trans people want from the press: "Really, we want nothing. It's not because we're trying to hide anything. It's because there's literally nothing to talk about. We're just completely normal, boring people”
The increased conversation on vasectomies is bittersweet,

Two of my favourite people ever were supposed to be married in 2 and a half hours, but we’ll be waiting until we’re out of tier 4 now. Or I’ll get ordained and marry them in the kitchen.

He said it was "even smoother than I thought it would be," adding that it was quick and painless, the most annoying aspect being that he couldn't ride his bike for a few weeks.

Quick shout out to my dad who, when I was 13 and found feminism, told me women’s body hair was gross and would not be too receptive to my feminist rants. A few months ago he sent me a copy of
@CCriadoPerez
’s “Invisible Women” and asked to read it after me. Character development?
My brother has Down’s syndrome. When we were tiny I remember watching Something Special with him, and there was a boy with DS talking to the camera. My brother was so excited and was going “he’s like me he’s like me!”. Everyone deserves to see themselves represented accurately.
The absolute fear that I feel as someone who will have 0 immune system, knowing that in 2 months people will not need to self isolate with COVID, cannot be put into words
My brother (who, for context, has Down's) saw Jo Brand in a supermarket and went up to her, stood about 30cm from her face and said "you are Jo Brand off the television." They ended up having a chat for a few minutes about her job and what they were going to buy. Very nice!
