Alan Butts served over 19 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. His conviction was recently overturned and last night, he left the courthouse a free man. I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to help such an amazing person regain his freedom.
If Wemby had gotten one more assist last night, he’d have had back-to-back 5X5’s on a b2b in which he played less than 32 minutes in each game.
Only 15 other players in history have ever gotten a 5X5
One of my fav Bill Russell stories is this anecdote from 1964 All Star game.
Russell wanted the all stars to strike to force the league to provide a pension plan. Wilt wanted to play the game. They agreed to take a vote and striking won 11-9. The NBA caved 15 mins before tipoff.
Maxey just became the 14th player in NBA history to put up 33 pts, 8 assists, and 4 blocks with fewer than 4 turnovers. The other 13 are all Hall of Famers or locks.
He’s also the 2nd youngest on the list, older than only LeBron.

NBA players are just so tall. I remember a pic of Dwyane Wade absolutely towering over some defensive player, maybe Khalil Mack.
Violent and mentally damaged dopplegängers who are unable to speak terrorize their original counterparts and attempt to murder them with school supplies.
Us, or the Frankendoodle episode of SpongeBob Squarepants? 🤔
In this series, the 76ers were -16 when Ben Simmons was in and -3 when he was on the bench. They were +90 when Joel was in and -109 when he was on the bench.
Great Simmons story from
@ramonashelburne
this morning, touching on a lot of important details from this saga.
Had to stop for a second after reading this part though

@godspeedbrother
Yeah but she understands the macro-effect of Cleveland adding a floor-spacer to an offense that was too congested with the double-big lineup. She understands that high 3pt volume at a solid % is more important in many contexts than a very high 3pt%.
Reggie Jackson just became the first player since the NBA started tracking individual turnovers (1978) to put up at least 35 pts and 13 assists on over 75 FG% with under 3 turnovers
A possibly life-saving trade for Caris LeVert. He underwent a physical with Indiana, which ultimately helped him diagnose and treat the cancer. The Pacers stood by him and the trade and have made it a priority to help him get fully healthy.
Prayers up.
***2024 NBA Draft Twitter Consensus Big Board***
103 individual big boards were compiled for this project.
S/o to
@mikegrib8
for starting this years ago and leading it once again, and to everyone who helped input boards behind the scenes this year.
Here are the top 90.
I’ve been sitting on a take and idk if it’s exactly correct:
Small ball hysteria peaked in the summer of 2018 (GSW rings, Harden MVP), and since then 4 of the 5 champions won in the playoffs by primarily being bigger than their opponents across the board.
@DiscoPaco
I think casual NBA fans underrate Seth’s overall ability and Steph’s volatility/variance in play. So it wouldn’t surprise me if Seth outplays him one game, but I could see a lot of fans losing their minds over it.

and
@SloanImperative
for putting in a ton of work in to knock this all out.

Idk what kind of psyop is going on, but pretty much every casual bball fan I know has told me they’ve heard Bryce is a better prospect than Bronny and he is so, so much worse
@Netstradamus
@realStanVG
That’s literally the point; that stealing a sign from a front yard is not something worth calling the police for, that police often make petty situations like this worse, and thus shouldn’t be the first contact.
I thought this was a helpful way to frame Philly’s new big 3 (from
@Neil_Paine
):
Embiid is better than your typical best player on a title team
PG is about the level of the avg 2nd best player on a title team
Maxey is a tad better than the avg 3rd best player on a title team
I want the Bengals to win a many playoff games over the next 10 years that they run out of decent places to give game balls. How far down the barrel can we get? Let’s win so much that the BP in Clifton has a game all behind the counter
I’m warning up to the Spurs trade cuz the 2031 draft class looks pretty good. There are some really promising 4th graders. The obvious ones being Marcus Lewis, Grant Huber, and Max Sirnovsky, and some sleepers I like such as Ricardo Brazel, Trenton Kline, and Trevon Brewster.

’s Nope, or the 2nd episode of Gravity Falls? 🤔
So the tough thing is we probably wouldn’t see Poole’s emergence, and LaMelo’s usage would obv look substantially different… but at the same time I kinda just trust a team led by Draymond and Steph to optimize everything. And there’s a chance the offense could look transcendent.
From 2015-2018 I was an advocate that Draymond’s defensive impact was very underrated. But now adding what GSW has done on D the last 2 years (
#5
last year;
#1
this year), I almost feel like it’s fucking impossible to overstate he does on that side of the ball. He’s unbelievable.
It’s embarrassing that ESPN still puts Kendrick Perkins on tv, let alone positions him asa primary basketball analyst It’s not just that he’s routinely horrible, he is, but also that there are no benefits to outweigh his badness. Who is he for? What does he bring the network?
G1: LAL top-locks splash bros, AD protects rim+destroys Loon
G2: Steph PnR pulls AD out… LAL blitzes —> Dray cooks on roll; Dray guards AD better than Loon
G3: AD on JMG + Vando on Dray —> LAL switches Steph+Dray PnR & AD isn’t cooked by JMG rolls
Playoff adjustments are fun
In honor of the NBA returning tonight, I decided to make a list of my personal top 100 NBA players of all time. I’m gonna try to update it every off-season going forward. in Active players are highlighted.
Feel free to @ me with what I got wrong.
Kareem apologized for ignoring Shaq throughout his career. Kareem said he never had anything against him, always respected him, & feels bad he didn’t give him more love when he played. Shaq was moved. The other panelists were stunned + Shaq was emotional + gave context behind it.
Since everyone's quarantined & bored out of their minds for a while,
@tnose12
had the idea to create a streaming recommendation spreadsheet. It's sorted by streaming service & genre. Reply w/ anything good we missed & we'll add it & update as time goes on.
@amandamull
Mahomes had superstar numbers at TTU and was a top 5 offense, they were just one of the worst D’s in the nation. The stronger case is he helped Case Keemun & Manziel look like college football stars, and just helped Kyler have one of the better rookie seasons in recent yrs
I wrote about the use of rap lyrics as evidence in criminal proceedings. Brought to you by the Arizona State Sports and Entertainment Law Journal (pages 93-125).
Rushed the field and immediately lost track of everyone I was at the game with. Surrounded by 10k people, turned to my left and just happened to be next to my younger brother, who is a junior at undergrad here. This is what it’s all about.

At 2:18 yesterday I made a dumb joke to the Director of Quantitate Research and Development of the Dallas Mavericks about trading Harrison Barnes. 8 hours later, Harrison Barnes was traded. 👀
Here’s a free agency tracker for the top 60 guys. I’ll try to update it as guys officially sign. Yellow = new team and green = same team. Let me know if I missed anything.
@NekiasNBA
The way I’ve described it this year is that they have the highest ceiling and their 10 best games are better than any other team’s 10 best games, but they’re less consistently good than DEN + MIL + arguably PHX.
My law review article was selected for publication by the DePaul Journal of Sports Law:
"A Global Pandemic and a Wildcat Strike: How COVID-19 and Civil Unrest Could Impact the NBA's Labor Relations"
“Small ball” was really about scoring w > skill + shooting w/out getting killed on defense, and at the time that came from guards + wings, so it was positioned as an “either/or” with size.
But then big players counter by improving those skills and the scales shift back a little

Last night, Haliburton became the 6th player in NBA history to have at least 40 points, 16 assists and fewer than 3 turnovers.
He joins LeBron, Westbrook, CP3, Isiah Thomas, and Kevin Johnson.

@billsperos
No he shouldn’t. Someone isn’t disqualified from being better if they have fewer rings.
If anyone has Eli Manning over Brees / Rodgers / Marino, they’re being ridiculous. If anyone has Terry Bradshaw over Peyton Manning, they’re being ridiculous.
In the last 13 months the Cavs:
1. Signed Jarrett Allen for ~ $20M/yr
2. Drafted Evan Mobley 3rd overall
3. Traded for Donovan Mitchell
That’s a pretty remarkable run for that franchise
@HPbasketball
@bball_ref
Vucevic is averaging 19-11-3-1-1 on 0.611 TS%. Here are the players who have done that over a season:
1. Charles Barkley (2X); 6th for MVP both years
2. Kareem, 1979; 4th for MVP
3 Karl Malone, 1993; 8th for MVP
That’s it.
