How things progress! An in-game image of the Lister Storm that we created in my 2006 game GTR2, and the same car in our upcoming game GTRevival.
I recall back in 2006 thinking, 'How will we ever get better than this.'...
Could an iRacing style system work if it were free? Or how about one tenth of the price. Would the numbers work... could we pay the costs to maintain it? I ask myself these sort of questions regularly. Here's another shot of our Viper.
Morning everyone! Testing out realtime in-game illumination solutions. I like the drama here.
Shout out to the materials work from our artists here.
Zoom in. I think it's setting a new bar.
I'm privileged to have a wonderful media team ran by my good friend Dr. Rose Sattari. Here is our final logo and some indication of the convoluted thinking behind it. Aspects are inspired by Vetruvian man by Da Vinci. They think this shit through. Hope you like it. xx
Thought I'd show you some earlier work in progress as a lot of what I've shown looks pretty much complete.
For a change of tack, here's a three quarters done Lister cockpit.
Hi everyone, I’ve been quiet for the last while for a very exciting reason. In the very near future we’ll be announcing some huge great news relating to our upcoming game GTRevival and company developments. Stay tuned! I'll update you all as soon as I can.
Merry Christmas EA staff.
'Small organisation restructuring to enable blah blah', bollocks. It's Christmas you bunch of corporate pricks! 5.7 billion profits not enough for you?
Anyone affected, contact us. xx
When EA closed Slightly Mad Studios and dumped most of the team halfway through the best sim we'd have made to date they created a monster.
This monster is motivated and free to deliver the best.
Enjoy some latest in-game runtime screenshots followers. GTRevival is rocking if I say so. Work still to be done of course. I won't stop until it's as close to perfect as we can get. The whole team are insanely motivated.
Well we've just hit a milestone. Our new physics in early form, with our new graphics engine in early form and our (from the start) Physics guru Doug Arnao testing the 296.
You asked for early moving footage. What's missing? Tons! Head physics movement, some audio, some lots...
So after a month I think I can give a fair assessment of Forza.
In short, they tried to be what we produced with Project CARS and they failed. Not so easy guys, right?
The bugaboo of all good racing games. You see lovely 3d grass in preview pics which seem to have had a complete shave in shipped product. Well our people have created a grass system that has little overhead but looks good IMHO.
A good sim needs VR in my opinion. We were a release title on Oculus Rift and Vive. Unreal doesn't work for the foregoing so I've made a huge call and it's an engine change. Something more amenable and flexible. Details soon.
The beautiful monster is in-game.
Register to get our newsletter at 12 noon BST tomorrow which includes an interview with Lister CEO Lawrence Whittaker.
For today, some realtime shots.
We're so happy to see many journals posting the last pics up. Much appreciated. I'm unsure if this works here but these are 300dpi versions.
Cheers and thanks for all of the support!
A lot of rhetoric around 'how to fix F1'. I think it's simple. Bring back screaming V10's, stop pandering to environmental concerns, it's not your gig. Bring back refuelling and allow the engines to rev to whatever the hell they can rev to, burst pistons going into orbit. Sorted.
Decided to make the follow up to GTR2 with the original team. Myself, Stephen Viljoen, Andy Garton, Stephen Baysted, Henrik Roos, Johan Roos, Vik Klomiets everyone of note who made GTR2 what it was.
Hardcore, balls to the wall, no compromise. We'll keep you updated.
Enjoy. xx
I think the world is ready for an iRacing style system on consoles also. That's where we'd go along with PC. Open up modding to console users also. I have a dream...
Plenty of GT racing classics from our earliest seminal games are coming your way. The Audi is just more polished.
The team really are pushing the boundaries In all areas.
So our next game is pretty much consolidating down to a sim inspired by the likes of pCARS2 (but improved where needed) and GTR2 (improved where needed) and you all can input all the way as soon as we have a couple of polished tracks and cars using the new engine to ship out.
By popular request... I'm lucky enough to have a new M4 Competition but the best BMW I ever had was the E46 M3. It was something very special indeed. How could we not include it?
Our updated logo. I like it a lot. It's one of about 20 options our very talented team showed me but I feel this one is the strongest. Feedback welcome.
Oh, the 'G' is because our media com team listed the options alphabetically...
I'd like to announce a restructuring within Straight4. We'll be retaining all staff through Christmas and beyond for as long as we can unless we're going bankrupt. The staff are the bedrock of any organisation and you 'use' them like numbers on a spreadsheet at your peril. Happy
Where have you been? Hello one and all and it's wonderful to be let loose. I had to talk to some aesthetically challenged people and smile and nod at the appropriate moments. Lots of info and company history here and:
So, based on fan feedback, we're moving beyond a pure GT roster of cars to include anything we find interesting. I find this car interesting. Early WIP of course.
We've finally worked out how iRacing do it. Smart, very smart. The real-time attenuation and Ai interpolation is epic. Now, to clean room something better.
Is F1 trying to shoot itself in the foot? Arguably two of the most watchable cars (at different times) are stripped of their positions because a plank was worn slightly more than the powers that be would like. I reiterate, sort your shit out F1. How to lose viewers!!
Hey, 9500 followers. I'm feeling very thankful and privileged simultaneously. Another 500 and I'll be 'an influencer' able to get 20 bucks to pitch crap to you all!!
Picked up my new Ferrari today. Showed up in a hoodie and a pair of Jesus sandals. As you do.
And Project CARS2 was playing on a sim. Did they license it? Did they F..............
Patent is now applied for so I can show this. We used a different game to show the flexibility of the system. We have more to come which will raise the bar in other areas. Rejoice!
Wow, 10,000 followers. I've reached my life's goal of being a tier 1 influencer... Seriously, thanks so much everyone for your interest. I never expected this sort of response.
Hi all. We have a proof of concept nailed and something is on the way for sim racing that's really a complete game changing USP. I would tell you exactly what it is but we're looking to patent it as it deserves it, as does the member of staff who created it. Watch this space.
So that's about 18 hours and counting calling all of the old pCARS2 team. Many of the GTR2 guys are already with us and most of the pCARS2 superstars want to join. GTR Revolution is going full hardcore in every possible way we can think of. It's already building. Input welcomed.
So, as an unashamed ploy, anyone following me here gets free access to WMD3. You'll be able to engage, converse and take part (and maybe even deliver assets we pay for) to GT Revival. Others might have a tiny payment for access as we want only those interested.
Everyone go out and get the latest version of AMS2 using an enhanced version of our Madness engine. Renato and the guys (girls?) at Reiza have found and reported a few bugs to us and fixed them, which has transformed the engine allowing the Seta tyre model to truly shine.
Funny story related to my last one. I'm in a hotel lobby chatting to David Coulthard and a fan came running up asking for a selfie. David said sure and the fan said thanks so much, handed David his phone, hugged me and said 'Ian Bell', man. Love your work :) DC took it well.
After posting our logo in blue many have asked 'what about orange?'. Well, that's exactly what the team pitched to me originally which I overruled to introduce the studio branding. Anyway, here's some of the original deck pitch images we debated.
I have two emails from heads of other racing game companies talking very positively about that last screenshot I posted. We're all a big club here, growing the market for us all. No animosity (apart from EA). xx
We plan to make GT Rev the most moddable Auto platform ever. Environments, Cars, Audio and crucially, a totally tooled physics suite. Skilled creators might even be able to sell their wares in our marketplace.
Pit to car and car to pit engineer, fully AI synthesised radio by
@BenCollinsStig
with a little post-processing added by our Professor Baysted. Much more to come but I suspect this is in adequate indication of where we're going.
This will be made with zero Publisher input. My new company (on the way) Mildly Annoyed Games will take care of all of the development. It's going to be fucking epic.
Slightly sombre post. I had a fruitful meeting with the late great Niki Lauda where we came to an agreement. He very sadly didn't make it to the end of the contractual stage. The guy was hilarious. His first response to my first offer was 'Fuck off, you can't be serious!'...
Free signed Platinum copy of GTRevival for the person that can come up with the greatest insult. Fresh or borrowed, doesn't matter. My contribution - Bill. Burr during his 'Philly Rant'.
'You disappointment to your mother'.
While I'm on an F1 based diatribe... White line limits. Fuck them! Make the kerbs beyond a nightmare and make them part of the track. If a driver/team want to risk crushing their suspension, under tray, or anything else, let them risk it. The risk/reward benefit will resolve it.
We've just welcomed back Tim Mann. Who with Rob Dibley and Kevin Boland (GTA engine and our CDO) was instrumental in making the Madness engine all that it is. Great things are coming your way. Some in-engine pics coming soon. Watch this space!
Quality of image vs frame rate. It's an issue we all have to traverse but where do we aim? So mid-way through development we need to adopt the assumption that PC's will get more powerful over time and base our max/ultra settings on projections. For Consoles it's fixed.
I'm very happy to announce that JonZ will be joining Straight4 from the 1st of September as our Video Creative Director.
Welcome aboard mon ami.

You might notice a 'soft body' subroutine in the images I posted yesterday. Yes, chassis flex finally! But done properly, from first principles. Now, try to get accurate data from manufacturers for just what their torsional, and multi-directional flex figures are... Leave me
My current thoughts on us using Unreal as a render.
Nanite can be used as a 'crutch', so no LOD work needed and the system will do the work for you. I don't subscribe to this ethos because any system doing 'anything' is a CPU overhead. Nothing is free, ever. Good old quality
“Our business is constantly changing as we strive to deliver amazing games and services that keep our players engaged, connected, and inspired,” an EA spokesperson said. “..requires the company to make small-scale organizational changes that align our teams and resources to meet
What are we pushing for? The most acute and reactive physics ever delivered. In game animations like wheels directly connected to the underlying physics with no perceptible lag. Later, a feeling of really being there with all of the excitement that brings. We're getting there.
mILDLY aNNOYED sTUDIos (MASS) are proud to announce that
@BenCollinsStig
will be joining the GTR Revival team as Chief Handling Consultant effective immediately.
EA, keeping on being awesome... I said my bit and I stand by every word as they continue to prove them.
How are those numbers (sorry I mean people, with hopes, dreams and families) looking, at the bottom of those the spreadsheets?
I know I pimp our graphics a lot but our wonderful Professor Baysted, my first ever employee 20 something years ago and my good friend is working on a new version of an iconic theme some of you may know. Enjoy! (PS, say it's good as another PhD thing is happening for me).
Our media team was kind enough to send me 10 GTRevival caps to giveaway (when I say kind, I mean, I paid for them, but never mind!). First 10 replies to giveaway
@straight4
.com win a cap each.
SMS began as a mad dream by a bunch of ambitious racing fans in a bedsit back in the late-90s. With the studio’s future now assured, the time is right for me to step aside. It’s been a ride and a privilege to share our dreams with you. Thank you!
