Not getting married before 30 used to be my biggest anxiety.
Now, 4mo from 30 w/o marriage on the horizon, I TRULY see why women are conditioned to feel that way.
I’m SO much more developed as a person than I was 5 years ago. I have clear boundaries and a vision for my future.
Indians as a people are absurdly attached to the Indian taste. So much that many prefer Indian food even when vacationing abroad. The survival of international chains here depends on how well they Indianise their menu. We *refuse* to leave our comfort zone when it comes to food.
If you're a privileged Indian who's posting about racism in the US, but have never said a word online about Kashmir, the Delhi pogrom, or institutional casteist murders, you really need to introspect.
Just thinking about that one time on Twitter when a dude mansplained a woman about the topic she had a PhD in, refused to listen and kept recommending resources for her to "educate" herself on the topic, and ended up recommending to her the book she wrote
A lot of women are posting for
#ChallengeAccepted
, so here's a post that talks of the origins/purpose of the challenge. Turkish women are murdered at an alarming rate. Everyday, a murdered woman's B&W pic appears in the media. The challenge aims to bring awareness to this issue.
Having to give exams like IELTS and TOEFL that cost a bomb even when you've completed your education in English, just because you're from a third-world country
Long-distance CAN work; it’s just that it needs real, sustained commitment from both partners. The reason “long-distance never works out” is such a popular take is because it often ends up shining a light on the weaknesses of the relationship, or one partner’s lack of commitment.
School done? Worry about college. College done? Worry about job. Career settled? Worry about marriage. Married? Worry about kids. Kids settled? Worry about retirement. It never ends. We've literally been brainwashed from childhood to never enjoy life the way it currently is.
A friend went to a gynaec because their 🩸 was super late. Gynaec responded by telling them to “stop eating carbs and take a walk everyday”. When they told her they’re an intermediate level dancer who does 5 two-hour classes a week, she straight up didn’t believe them 😃
So apparently D*lhi P*lice are now threatening people who are amplifying COVID leads, telling them to stop or have a case against them. I have no words.
Got my bf to do skincare with me last night. Later when I kissed his cheek, he said he didn’t want us to kiss each other’s hydrated faces. I’m not even mad, I was so proud
Tell me why I’m 28 years old and still think twice before drinking water immediately after eating a banana just because someone told me 20 years back that it’ll give me a cough
A lot of Indians have no understanding of the appropriate time to respect someone’s privacy v/s when to step in and help.
The lives of young single folks living in your building = the whole community’s business, but the neighbour being abused by her husband = a private matter.
Cannot believe it that Indians are celebrating the invader, calling him a "legend"
Offering to represent him in court pro bono
And then the same would turn back and ask - why are you questioning our loyalty?
*and ask for donations*
Someone told me about a stray cat named Mirchi who lives near their building. Mirchi just had a litter of kittens and her baby daddy is named—I kid you not—Haldi
Too many parents are okay with their kids watching them fight, but won't be affectionate with each other in front of them because they think that's "inappropriate"
There are too many girls and young women who feel the need to become financially independent asap just so they can escape their fathers and take their mothers with them
Did you know that when a woman gets diagnosed with cancer, her husband leaves in 21% of cases? When the genders are reversed, that number is only 3%. Despite the fact that men whine about not receiving unconditional love from women, their love is far more conditional than ours.
You know what weirds me out about Indian Matchmaking? Whenever they take you to a city in the US, they show the cityscape and surroundings, whereas for an Indian city it’s poor folks on the street right before you jump into watching rich Hindu UCs in their expensive homes
The fact that this person is getting dragged by hundreds of strangers for simply trying to start a conversation about something innocuous he perceived to be a mutual interest shows me that y’all have lost your damn minds
Why do men feel compelled to behave like every woman on social media is a dunce when it comes to the most basic tech-related stuff? I know how VPNs and torrents work but thanks for your condescension, Rohan
Why do Indian boomers have absolutely no concept of how rude it is to play music/videos on your phone out loud without earphones in a crowded public s space??
Gotta love it when men on social media come at women with "What about your father? He's a man. Is he trash too??" and think they played some kinda trump card. Like...yes, Suresh, how else do you think I realised men are trash in the first place?
A person who maintains a small collection of fast fashion clothing and makes maximum use of all their pieces is far more “sustainable” than a person who shops for multiple clothes from “thrift shops” every month. This is a hill I’m willing to die on
The female neurodivergent dilemma of wanting to use noise cancelling earphones in public places to get some quiet, but being too uncomfortable with the idea of losing awareness of your surroundings
I'll never get over how when someone dies by s*icide, you inevitably hear opinions about how "selfish", "cowardly", etc. they were, and never a word about how deep in a pit of despair they must've been to give up their own life. We as a society are shockingly lacking in empathy.
FATPHOBIA DIRECTLY HURTS THE HEALTH OF FAT PEOPLE! EVERY fat person—hell, even slightly plump person—I know has had at least one experience of being fat-shamed by a doctor. We end up avoiding doctors even when we need medical attention. Because we know our concerns will be-
There is no need for professional communication to take place over WhatsApp at all. There’s email and apps like Slack for a reason. Indian organisations really need to get better at drawing workplace boundaries
Texting someone because you're craving their attention and affection, knowing even as you type that you're not going to get what you want, but not being able to stop yourself
Fat people: "All forms of body-shaming are bad, but we experience systemic discrimination that compromises the quality of healthcare we receive, robs us of career opportunities, and more"
Skinny people: "Do you have any idea how painful it is to be called chopstick and haddi?"
Someone who collated a list of COVID fundraisers is claiming the list as their "intellectual property", and telling artists to take down Instagram posts containing a link to the list. Clout must be one hell of a drug 🤡
Dear
@amazonIN
, why haven’t you removed a seller who’s been scamming buyers for over a year? My mom ordered an Oral-B electric toothbrush worth ₹12k, and received 4 boxes of MDH Chat Masala instead! Turns out seller MEPLTD has done this to dozens of customers since Jan 2022.
TW// sexual harassment
This is why “woke” dudes are scarier. They know the right buzzwords to avoid accountability & deflect blame onto their victims. This creep sexually harassed a woman who came to him for a tattoo, and is basically saying she’s lying because she’s white.
It seems like this needs regular reminders, so here we go again: the "A" in "LGBTQIA" does NOT stand for ally. It stands for asexual, agender, aromantic. If you're a cishet person insisting the A is for ally, you're not a true ally, you're just using the community for clout.
The fact that the RW is so convinced that protesters are all "paid" is so telling. They can't even fathom the concept of having convictions and standing up for something simply because it's the right thing to do.
Just found out my college bestie got married two months back. We’ve been in intermittent touch since we graduated, and wish each other on birthdays and stuff. Is it weird that I feel bad that let alone inviting me to her wedding, she didn’t even tell me she’s getting married?
Most meals eaten regularly in desi households are low in nutritive value - sabzis are overcooked and therefore sapped of nutrition, way too much oil/ghee, not enough vegetables
Yeah sex is great, but have you ever finally quit a job where a crusty man was being a dickhead to you, and detailed every last bit of his bad behaviour in your resignation email?
Most families looking for “independent, educated” wives for their sons are lying. They don’t actually want a woman who will use her education and be independent. They want to find a woman like that and then crush her spirit and put her in her place.
Interning under a divorce lawyer really showed me how no one can hurt you more deeply than someone you once loved. They know exactly how to hit where it hurts most, and most people no qualms about using the most intimate knowledge of their exes to fuck them over in court.
I want to see more fat protagonists in movies and shows. The fat ones are always side characters like the goofy best friend. I want to see fat people as real people with real personalities, outside of the purpose they serve to the life of their thin friends.
I've been running
@badassbrownactivist
on IG since '17. My following used to be 86% women. Activist pages were typically run by noncismen. Since the CAA-NRC issue has blown up, however, there's been a steady rise in men following pages like mine, & creating activist pages. (1/4)
Imagine getting removed as student body president for calling Malaysians "ching chang", making Holocaust puns, and being transphobic, and somehow spinning it into a book about being bullied for being Hindu. The delusion is staggering
What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger!
At 22 years of age, as the first Indian Female President of the Oxford University Students Union, my historic election victory rapidly transformed into a distressing nightmare of bullying, harassment, & threats. It was declared that
I hate the fact that upon hearing of a woman’s story of sexual harassment, most men’s first response is to ask whether she filed a complaint about it. Whereas in my experience, women typically show support for the victim’s feelings and trauma as their first response.
More than 99.9% of people of the country are opposed ot "the idea of same sex marriage" in our country - Bar Council of India.
#SupremeCourt
#SameSexMarriage
Thinking about how an aunty highly recommended us a specific tour operator for Europe based solely on the fact that they served Indian food throughout the tour. Imagine going all the way to Europe only to eat paneer makhani and naan.
My mom once casually told me that her twin cousins swapped babies after both their wives delivered for the second time within the same month 😶
The one with a son had another son, and the one with a daughter had another daughter. So they just…swapped
Made a list of popular Irrfan Khan movies that are available on major streaming platforms for myself, and thought I'd share for anyone else who might find it useful
Hot take: you can criticise the history behind and misogyny of the institution of marriage whilst still wanting to one day get married on your own terms
What's the worst way you've ever been dumped? I'll start: I asked my bf of 4.5 years "Do you want to break up" after he spent months ignoring me for days at a time, and he responded with "I'd like that"
