There was some talk about the story of Battletech recently that got me thinking about the value of cause and effect storytelling in universe.
There are three story beats I think are the seminal moments in Battletech lore that set everything in motion. 🧵

@CultureCrave
Perhaps unnoticed by critics, but he redefined the character to the point that anyone else is just a pale imitation. He deserves recognition for just how well he did!
@Correactor
@pcgamer
Do you know what happens when you don't teach a child not to be violent? They get violent on their own.
Competition is inherent in human nature, and without social rules, humans resort to violence as easily as breathing.
You are living a delusion based on a world made safe.
@bluefolf
Fine, take it out of schools, institutions, corporations, off your profiles, then no one will see it, and thus not bother you about it.
The thing is, no one would pay attention if you didn't shove it in other peoples' faces.
@StrigaRosa
The words of someone who has no attention span or understanding of the history of a setting.
Lore is the foundation that everything in a setting is built upon. Without it, all you have is empty aesthetics.
@iwant_ganyu
@CodingBear
That's the thing about faith and eternal life. You're trying to apply your selfish, limited understanding of the world to a woman who sacrificed everything for her people.
@Big_E_of_Man
They’re not flagship product because people buy what they want.
Pretending that Space Marines wouldn’t lose popularity if their lore was changed is collectivist nonsense.
@Grummz
Thank you. I'm not interested in judging Ghost of Yotei until I know more.
A female protagonist is not a problem, and as long as she's not an agenda driven character, I see no issue.
@Teh_Snowflake
@SKiller1977
Deadline is a Hollywood shill column pushing a narrative. The fact that you're relying on them shows just how much of a shill you are as well.
@PominosDizza46
Politics that put identity ahead of story. Politics that pretend to be serving underrepresented people, but are devoid of anything beyond self congratulatory back patting. Politics that drive out talented people in favor of activists that only care about games as propaganda.
@WargamerCom
Dragging politics into the hobby and attempting to discredit people on the basis of political ideology, I see.
All you are doing is sowing division for the sake of pressuring a company into doing what you want.
It is disgusting.
@Correactor
@pcgamer
I am not arguing against nurture, but that you cannot ignore nature. There is nothing insecure about acknowledging reality.
On the other hand, pretending reality is not true is delusional. When you make statements about violence not being part of human nature, you look foolish.
A bit of

tabletop advice. If you’re looking to dig into Battletech, and want the one book you need, this is it.
It is the main rules for playing, with minimal frills, clear rules explanations, and core mechanics without the clutter.
@Welkinboy
@CerberusXt
Did you honestly think anyone was unaware of these pictures? No one is bothered by them, because they don't interfere with canon.
If anything, Ryuusei has done an excellent job of making something fun for fans to enjoy.
@Variety
Here's a lesson in economics. If you want a customer to buy a product, you must make it appeal to that customer. If you refuse to do so, you lose customers.
They have refused to cater to their primary market, and are losing money. This is not the viewers' fault, but Hollywood's.
@SnarkQueenBee
The constitutional amendment does not grant the right of self defense, only affirms what is already a natural born right. Therefore, it shall not be infringed, because no one has the right to deny it from another.
@EckhartsLadder
Congratulations, you've been added to the list of Youtubers I will now actively tell people to avoid.
If you aren't willing to do more than superficial research on a subject, nor set your politics aside, you don't deserve to be listened to.
@RealRadHom
You literally made a racist comparison about one of the most beloved anime characters of all time, got cooked for your racism, and now you’re blocking everyone who called you out.
Spend some time reexamining your own actions.
@SilverCyanide2
@Hoxhaist_TDM
People who post about glorious revolutions seem to always be those who have no idea of the cost, sacrifice, and toll it would take to achieve it.
@Kotaku
You mean that a game that encourages political violence, definitely takes a side in culture wars, encourages bullying and canceling people is hated?
Face it, society is seeing the people this game portrays as heroes for what they are.
I did not surrender when CGL tried to change Battletech to suit politics. I will not surrender because GW tried to change Warhammer.
Warhammer Stands.

No, I am perfectly aware of it. What I am pointing out is that nurture does not preclude nature.
Without any influence, a human will use violence as a matter of course. Nurture can curb violence, but it does not preclude it.
Day 29 of games I liked!
Robotech Battlecry is quite possibly the best Macross/Robotech game ever made. Allowing for smooth transitions between modes, excellent combat mechanics, and a decent story that lets you experience the war firsthand. Easily one of my favorites ever!
@PominosDizza46
Sweet Baby Inc., Black Girl Gamers, any company who's job is "sensitivity reading", most Disney productions.
The best part is, they'll tell you they're doing it.
Stop holding water for ideologues.
To all those who love Battletech, and just want to have fun without a company dictating your behavior, know that people like me are still here to help, will supply you with minis, will do our best to share lore, and will not police your table for you.
Enjoy

You seem to be under some illusion that violence has to be taught. That is a nonsensical degree of delusion, and no one I’ve ever met who argued for nurture has tried to claim nature does not exist.
@JhonMarik808
@DAKKADAKKA1
I remember the first time I saw someone play it, and was immensely frustrated by the "no self defense or you're evil" element of the story.
@PominosDizza46
The ones that literally posted their illegal hiring practices online, then tried to sue people for calling them out on their own words.
Go find someone who will believe your lies, or better yet, stop being dishonest.
@RAZ0RFIST
I didn't see the characters in Ghost of Tsushima to be girlbosses. Japan's history is full of women stepping up to fulfill the duties of the men when battle turns against them or life forces hardships on them. Each one worked to be who they were.
@InsaneCope
It doesn’t help their case that many of those cities are gerrymandered, and have significant red populations, but they keep enough blue voters to suppress them. There’s always multiple levels of dishonesty.
Day 4 of mechs I liked!
The Warhammer/Tomahawk has some absolutely fantastic aesthetics! Designed as a heavy weapons platform in both Battletech and Macross, it fields impressive main guns backed up with a heavy battery of lighter weapons.
Had one of the first people I talked to about Battletech on Twitter block me today.
He asked me a question, which I wasn't able to respond to immediately because of work. When I got home, he'd blocked me.
I can't help but feel a little bitter about it...
@UmariTomoe
If you want to join the hobby, go for it! 40k fans love to share their fandom. It's the intrusion of people who seem to be far more interested in their personal politics being inserted that are not welcome.
Never be ashamed of painting your minis, or of doing a rough job. We all start somewhere. Do what you’re able, work at it, and improve!

@catalystgamelab
I am glad to see my choice to reject you for your obvious political bias has been validated.
I will continue to support healthy, at the table Battletech while you ruin your company with identity politics.
You will not be missed.
@SnarkQueenBee
Are you capable of fighting? Then you have a natural born right. Use of firearms is the same as every other tool, and the only regulation is in responsibility for making a choice with that tool.
Also, way to show class by resorting to insult. You have the maturity of a child.
@AlysssaHazel
I have no interest in someone who refuses to know anything about the source material making a film or series about that material in any writing/directing role over it.
It is disrespectful at best, outright manipulative and destructive at worst.
@thebigJClives
What combination of skin colors and outfits would you not consider racist, or are you just determined to tar and feather someone you dislike?
@Steal_your_shit
In math terms, it has the potential to do as much damage as a character gets in health at the same level. In short terms, it's a potential TPK in a single attack.
@PominosDizza46
That does not mean the lawsuit isn't happening, just that you're in denial.
Your cult is dying, and everyone is watching it slowly crumble. Deny all you want, time is on my side.
@Correactor
@pcgamer
That’s the point. Without being taught that murder is wrong, people will murder. Not all, but some do because what they gain is worth the effort to them.
This includes land.
@AkaHighGround
@MasteroftheTDS
Great, two death threats in a row. You really are digging the hole deeper.
You make it easy to show what a bigoted, small minded person fake Star Wars fans are, doing all the things you accuse others of.
Day 12 of mechs I liked!
The VF-1 Veritech is a beautiful piece of engineering, a multirole fighter-mech used to engage the Zentraedi on their own terms. It is fast, capable of operation in deep space, and well armed, though dangerously fragile.
@Correactor
@pcgamer
Yes, because they happen even when not taught or encouraged.
You cannot prevent someone from learning cause and effect.
Let’s take sexual assault as an example. If someone takes pleasure in skin contact, they will try again. If they are rejected, but take what they want-
@sw_holocron
You know what Breaking Bad didn’t do? Insult its audience.
Most shows only get one season to prove themselves, and most don’t get a small fortune in budget.
Face it, the Acolyte was bad and deserved to be cancelled.
Day 10 of games I liked!
The X-Wing/TIE Fighter series was in my opinion the best Star Wars piloting game. It demonstrated the difficulties of managing a fighter while not swinging into the overly complex, presented challenging scenarios, and at the time, felt really cool!
Many video games are a product of the times they were created in. As we look to recreate & remaster these stories for modern audiences, it's important to consider the implications of these harmful portrayals and do our part to rewrite new history, not repeat it.
We applaud our
