Love and Thunder literally opens with a father watching his child die of thirst in his arms, but still believing in God, until he stumbles into heaven and realises God doesn't give a shit about him and he wasted his entire life and all marvel bros can say is "urg it has jokes".
Hey, I'm having a silly moment and need people to just confirm to me they still like the show and liked the last two episodes is that ok? (Obviously only if you did!) ๐ฉ
"Ed just got away with everything and things went on as before" He was beat into a coma. He learned how to apologise. He said he knew he was wrong. He fought to save the crew's lives against the English. He left the ship and Frenchie's the Captain. Do you want him in prison, or?
I am in the lonelist possible configuration of
a) caring about all three of Stede, Ed and Izzy's stories while
b) not shipping Izzy with either of the other two
Ed: *enduring minor inconvenience* THAT'S *IT*. IM LEAVING YOU TO PERSUE MY DREAM OF BEING A TREE SURGEON!
Stede: *looks up from book* Yes dear. Shall we have fish for dinner on Friday?
I've heard
@neilhimself
hasn't personally gone back to 1969 and brought David Bowie forward in time to play Lucifer in The Sandman and so sadly I have no choice but to boycott.
I do think that when Ed's costume was created the knee brace was a Mad Max joke and nothing to do with disability, but I also think it's become important to a lot of fans and being careful around how we talk about "really needing" mobility aids is important.
Ed is so important to me. It's so rare to see someone in fiction *genuinely* mess up because of their mental illness and trauma and do things that are actually hard to deal with but to say that character is still worthy of forgiveness and love. ๐๐๐๐
Respectfully, no one group of fans in this fandom and no single character owns queerness. There was a queer *wedding* in this episode and I feel people are just ignoring it because idk it doesn't count or something?
Thinking about Buttons being a bird, John as Calypso, Izzy the sparkling new unicorn, Ed's vision of Stede as a mermaid... all the magic in S2...change making things beautiful and strange and affecting other people...
#ofmds2spoilers
This is what the real life player portrayed in NGW thinks of the movie and her character, by the way. Doesn't mean other people can't find it transphobic but given the context of rabid hatred for Taika I'm still taking those claims with a grain of salt.
Can we talk about Zheng's look of absolute devestation when the bombs went off? Broke my heart seeing her look like she'd been physically stabbed. ๐ข
#OFMD2Spoilers
I love this line because it's this tiny detail that opens up the world. Could have so easily just been "for God" but nope. You can come up with so much backstory for Ed just from this!
There's work to do but to claim things end in the same way the season began is just not true. And there's just not going to be massive great apology speeches to every single character. The show is about trying to get better in a dark world, not becoming masters of therapy speak.
I've been thinking about Ed and the cake topper and how to me it's not about wanting...idk for want of a better word femininity as such but wanting to be a WIFE ie cherished, loved, vulnerable and yes pretty, but in a different way to what Izzy does ar Calypso's party.
I wouldn't say I *recommend* your very first fandom being one that collapses in an incident involving fraud and kidnapping a minor across state lines but it does certainly give you perspective when people talk about how awful this or that fandom is.
@WhoresofYore
I know you want to encourage people to read the thread, but being troubled and lonely while having romantic feelings for men and women isn't really a terrible childhood ruining secret.
Saw someone yesterday talking about how Rhys and Taika were clearly homophobic and trying to get through their intimate scenes as quickly as possible while making fun of them. ๐คจ๐คจ๐คจ๐คจ๐คจ
Sunshine = hanging lots of washing out = being distracted by my next door neighbourโs cat who divebombs any available human with love and cuddles. 10/10, possibly a magical being.
@thecatreviewer
I think what Rhys said about Stede trying to be kind is extra important to be because Stede fails at it, badly, sometimes, but he wants to fix things and try to do better. That's so important and more interesting to me than stories about perfect people!
Friendly neighbourhood floof returns. His seems like a better plan for a sunny day than hanging laundry. 10/10, always a pleasure to fuss.
@thecatreviewer
I see people are denying that Stede is shown as being bullied for having sensitive or effeminate hobbies again. Yes flowers etc may have been acceptable interests for men of the period but ofmd is famously not historically accurate.
I refuse to believe that ofmd filmed in NZ so they can get funding from the tourist board with 40% of the Max budget cut is more expensive than And Just Like That or The Gilded Age, sorry.
Moving on doesn't mean that you don't expect people to do better. It just means you don't chase after revenge that you're not going to get. I really don't think DJ et all think the message of life is be awful and never change, somehow.
I don't think piracy in ofmd represents toxic masculinity. Clearly pirate society is more open to powerful women, queer people and generally being yourself than Stede's upper class society. However, it is a society of outcasts where most people are traumatised to a greater...
@lilwoodenboi
I think people are looking for reasons to hate on S2 tbh and don't realise that he's an introvert loads of the time, not just in those photos. Not everyone is Vico, including Rhys!
One thing I love about this fandom is how we rewrite stuff that's been traumatic for us via Ed and Stede and have them being the supportive partner and friend we never had at the time. ๐ฅบ
I wanted more resolution for Ed and Stede too but I don't like people saying "they killed the only unselfish character and gave a happy ending to two awful people". Izzy wasn't unselfish. He worked with the British in S1. He's allowed to be flawed but Ed and Stede aren't?
@rhysiedarby
I wouldn't want to meet the real guy, but I think you're giving voice to a lot of people in the past who probably wanted to change their lives or live honestly but didn't know how. And inspiring people to do it now, as well!
I'm really not going to get behind a statue of the real Blackbeard folks, sorry. Pirate history can be interesting but Bristol has enough problematic statues imo. Just my thoughts!
Heck, in Vol 2 I thought, how can anything live up to the version of Orpheus' song I have in my head? And they did it. And then they've done it AGAIN in Vol 3!

We had a queer, independent female filmmaker as exec producer on

and fandom harassed her mercilessly because she didn't make two men kiss. Sorry, just remembered that again.
TW: suicide || would it be too dark to mention seemingly daft things we've clung on to life for? I'll start: to find out how the S1 cliffhanger of Lost got resolved.
Ok in tribute to Rhys, what is the most conspiracy theory type thing you believe? Mine is the thing about Berenstain Bears etc meaning there's parallel universes.
Hey, I'm going to be controversial here and counter those "don't threaten Neil Gaiman, S2 is great actually" posts with DON'T THREATEN AUTHORS WHETHER YOU LIKE THEIR ART OR NOT what the fuck.
#GoodOmens2
Probably everyone knows this, but This Woman's Work is about a male narrator waiting for their partner to give birth, during which something goes wrong and the partner and baby may die. And in this usage Ed is going through a deadly crisis to being reborn, really.

I'm a bit tired of people debunking the take that Ed is fundementally violent and incapable of change, let's just be honest and say that belief is racism.
This isn't directed at anyone in particular, because I've seen lots of people saying it, but assuming people are high when they just act how they do normally is insulting not because being high is bad, but because it's just them. Not a side effect.
Absolutely not a criticism of stories that end with marriage and/or kids, many of which I love, but I wish there were also more modern AUs where Ed and Stede don't end up replicating the cishet nuclear family. Maybe I'm just not finding them? (No Ed/Izzy/Stede recs please.)
I am so not looking forward to the wider Twitter "is Taika Waititi the worst person in existence" discourse when NGW comes out. Just let a guy make films, it's not that deep.
To be fair, if their kissing doesn't do it for you that's totally fine! And they're not making out snogging all the time, clearly. But I think they came across as convincingly intimate and I love their soft interactions. ๐ฅน I'm also ace so maybe that affects it.

after a good few weeks of no sightings, pleased to be greeted by this soot sprite who lives on our street today. 9/10 with one point deducted for drooling on me.
@janet_frye
Whereas Thor gave his power to a bunch of little kids and Jane was just a normal person who gained it herself by being brave. They were the only gods that stood up for anyone!
the way ed smiles as stede tries to comfort him despite ed being responsible for all that shit my god look at his tiny smile he's so happy to be back next to stede on one ship knowing he's probably safe and protected and the way he looks up at him please i'm dying
