I’m sorry if some women missed out because they didn’t realise they had to retire at the same time as men, but the idea we should give £10,000 to pensioners who already get nearly £300k in state handouts then they ever ‘paid in’ is abdurd

In 50 years we’ll be spending more on healthcare & benefits for the over-65s than we currently spend on everything put together. Everybody knows it can’t go on - nobody <40 expects to retire in their 60s with a triple locked pension - so why does nothing change? Me for @CityAM

Until the Budget, child benefit started to be clawed back as your earnings hit £50k, and was gone completely by £60k. That created a marginal tax rate of 71% for someone claiming child benefit on three kids. That's the tower of marginal tax rate doom on this chart:

Perhaps the worst thing about the triple lock is that it’s so unpredictable- IFS predicts it could cost anywhere beyween £5-40bn by 2050 - it makes it impossible to plan long-term for defence, infra etc No business would run on that level of uncertainty

The triple lock hikes pension spending year on year. This is paid by today’s workers, despite 1/4 of pensioners being millionaires. When the rest of public spending - infra, defence, education - is suffering there must be a breaking point.
