Forever is where it begins 🚀
I handed in my passport to the immigration officer in Havana. He looked at it, tossed it aside and told me to stand aside until they were done with everyone else.
I stood there for hours before I was “specially attended to”. This emergency patriotism you people want to do, hmm.
If you have a Nigerian passport, one of the ways to travel more is to get a “major” visa - UK, US, Schengen, Canada, Australia, New Zealand.
If you already have one of these visas, here’s what you need to know…
I wore my mum’s old dress today because it only felt right. She almost literally held my hand through the past 6 years - especially my final 2 weeks in school which were hell. Ezinne’m 🥺
Age 16 to 22 spent obeying rules to rule 💀
MSc in the bag 🎓🎉
Class of 2020
We move 🚀
Every time I told my friends I was going to the Maldives 🇲🇻 after my solo trip to India 🇮🇳, the first question they asked was “Who goes to the Maldives alone?” and here’s what I think…
When I was 11 years old, I went to Mile 1 market in Port-Harcourt with my father to get new frames for my glasses.
He negotiated a pair of frames from 12K to 450 NGN. I was so scared because I thought the seller would harm him for pricing like that.
But guess what…
Ass kissing is not a part of Igbo culture. Nobody gives a fuck where you’re from, just do your freaking job.
Swap Obi with Nnamani or Ikpeazu or Orji and we go form unlooking because they are a bunch of incompetent fools. Retire this nonsense talk and let’s hear word abeg.
TD my baby, my lover, my best friend. I’m so excited that I get to spoil you in this lifetime with all the love you deserve, and so much more on your birthday 🎉
One day is not enough to celebrate you, but we tried to make the best of it 😅 Keep being a light, my dreamer boy ❤️
I always talk about how I want to go down in history as the girl with friends from around the world.
On this trip to Mauritius, I met a man with 1000 wives from different countries around the world.
The first day we met, he gave me a bottle of water and a ring.
Meet Med…
On my way out of Peru, I handed in my passport at immigration. He opened it, looked at me in shock and said, “You’re Nigerian? Born in Nigeria?” I said “Yes”
He said, “Then what are you doing here?” 💀💀💀
Went on to say it was his first time seeing a Nigerian (passport) lol.
As part of our Global fundraising campaign to raise money to build a chess academy and promote Chess education in Africa, we're officially launching the sale of our Chess Fìlà.
Get yours here:
I got home and the first thing my little sister said after screaming in excitement was, “You’re back! That means my money is now physical” while hugging me so tight. I don’t even know how to feel 💀
I didn’t wake up one morning and find myself here. I started from somewhere.
My first trip outside Nigeria was a road trip with my friends back in school and it cost me ₦45,500. I didn’t travel again for a year and half
During this time, I took a 9-5 that wasn’t fully remote…
This is the life I envision for myself but at this rate, I'll have to settle and it eats me. I won't lie. It eats me, worries me, gives me anxiety that rather than a remote work that'll let me travel yet work hard, I'd have to settle to work a 9-5, everyday, behind a desk.
Landed in Brazil and there were only 2 queues at immigration; Brazilians and others.
This man was busy asking for the queue for Americans. Lmfaooo dey play, my love. Better come and stand behind me and my forest green passport.
The gentleman that spent time with me around Yaba market yesterday (more on him later), said “mama you’ll show me love o”.
It was a no-brainer, considering he had spent the last 4 hours with me - not doing anything else.
I said “Sure, but I’ll do a transfer.”
He agreed…
Hi, I’m Alma 👋🏽
I’m 25. Nigerian.
This year, I’ve been to 10 countries so far. By the end of 2023, it will be 12, maybe 13.
You know what’s wild? I didn’t even own a passport until I was 21. And I actually got the passport because I wanted to move to Canada.
Guess what?
May Dump✨
I deserved all the belly-hurting laughter I got to do this birthday month. Meeting new people, bucket list experiences, living fully. Thank you, May🥂
When I completed this book, I was SHOOK! Till date, no book has moved me as much as it did.
Only for me to look at it and see that it was a “Finalist” for the Pulitzer Prize. I quickly went to find out what book could have possibly been selected over this one.
And I found it…
Back in 2011, I gained admission into Lagos state University to study medicine and surgery, but it was the same year they increased the tuition from 25k to 250k. Had to forfeit as my parents could not afford it.
Today, I'm a
@TEDx
speaker at the same university 😊.
I exchanged $200 for 5.5million Lebanese pounds. For context, a bottle of water is 6,000 LBP and shawarma is 90,000 LBP.
Please let’s know who we’re voting for o. It’s not cute at all. The future of Nigeria is in our hands fr fr 😭😭
Hey
@Tunde_OD
, this is an open note to say you’re an angel and a daily reminder of the extent of gross disservice I would have done to myself if I ever settled. Thank you for this week ❤️
Here’s our checklist/wishlist of home items for y’all asking.
I’m so shy putting this out, but we privately did a list like this for our wedding, and God provided everything we needed.
So 👇🏼
Hey princess, you’re 25 now 🎉
Where did all the time go? You’ve lived, loved, learned. Your dreams are coming true and your life is falling in place. Who would have thought?
You’re the part of me that has been here the longest and I hope you’re proud of me. Happy birthday ❤️
Something weird yet wholesome happened yesterday that warmed my heart…
I was in the car with 🌚 and there was a little hold up so we were doing some people-watching.
Next thing, he randomly spotted a man and said…
Travel makes me feel alive. I try to extend that life and cheer to everyone I meet at home, and on my trips. It always makes for beautiful wholesome stories 🥰
This is a thread of the everyday stories of the simple things I find worth sharing along the way. Grab a seat ❤️
Can we have more conversations around making the most of your time as a single woman?
Travel, lay solid career foundations, understand yourself. These husband audition talks are becoming exhausting.
Like can’t you see the exchange rates? Surely, there are more pressing issues.
I arrived in Cusco, Peru, and immediately felt nauseous and dizzy - altitude sickness. If you just tiptoe in Cusco, you can pluck the stars. So high!
For context:
🇨🇦 Toronto: 76m (above sea level)
🇳🇬 Lagos: 41m
🇬🇧 London: 11m
🇵🇪 Cusco: 3,400m
I had to constantly take coca tea.
Bringing some of our favourite people in one place for a surprise dinner party to eat, dance, gist and just chill with the birthday boy was definitely the highlight of my week 🥰
All the smiles were worth it, especially
@Tunde_OD
’s 🎉😇
Called my mum this morning to say happy birthday to her, then I said “I’ll call Uncle ND now”…
She said, “Why? I hope there’s no problem.” I said “errr… it’s his birthday too now”
This woman legit forgot that she has a twin 😩 She needs a vacation ASAP.
Oh yes lmaoooo it happens with a number of other things too. It’s called the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon (not sure I got the spelling right) or frequency illusion.
You don’t even need to buy it, you just need to consider buying it lol, crazy.
Don’t worry, just chew your mouth as usual. As long as you shout the “Bang” at the end with the high five, I’ll take it.
It’s the effort that counts ❤️
I always knew there was something special about the way I connected with people on my travels, but on this day in Jordan, I became very certain.
Let me tell you about two men I met in Petra that changed my life: Yahya & Odai.
I’ll start with Odai…
I saved this tweet to come back to it when I knew what to say.
I still don’t, but this is a first attempt. Thank you, Zalora. I hardly have it all figured out yet but there’s so much that I am now that I could have never imagined, and I know it’s going to be same for you, but…
@almaasinobi
@almaasinobi
you’re the first person i’ll ever tell im jealous of. and truly you’re the only person i’ve ever envied. not only are you so beautiful, but you’re living the life i’m looking up to achieving.
i don’t know if i’ll ever make it, where i’m at in this journey of life?
“I’ve never been humiliated because of my passport”
But you’re carrying birth certificate, bank statements, left wing of a baby ostrich and the toenail of your grandmother’s dog in an envelope and you’re now on a queue by 5am for your 10am visa appointment.
Lmaoooo okay.
How can we dress up to go on our first movie date and you cuddle and sleep from beginning to end? 😩
Anywhere you see
@Tunde_OD
, just help me ask him what happened in Black Panther, smh 💀
Today, I’m dedicating my time to showing you how your fellow human beings think about women who travel.
Travel solo? You’re a whore going to “sell market.” Travel with your partner? He definitely sponsored it. With your girls? A sugar daddy is funding it.
Where does it end?
What was meant to be 2 hours at Pause Café yesterday turned to 6 because of Salim, Tony’s really fun cousin.
Tunde complimented the playlist, then he came over to our table to ask our names. When we told him, he said with so much excitement, “Ohh it’s you!” 😅
Apparently…
I would always remember year 23 as the year I really started to participate in my life.
Living in a new city alone, fell in love with travel, started exploring the world and audaciously building the life I truly enjoy.
Year 23 changed my life.
This year 24, I pay it forward 🤍
After Obi is announced president, he should go on vacation first to recuperate and rest after this campaign because the work rate >>>>
Plus what is waiting for him in that office, eyes have not seen 😩 He needs renewed strength.
It’s been such a beautiful travel year for me so far - Vancouver, Brazil, Peru, Atlanta, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia.
Currently on a short-ish break that’s about to end, but I’m grateful that I get to live this life pheww 😮💨
The puff puff I ordered came, I did a happy dance and sat down to eat. Then I heard a loud knock on my door 2 minutes later.
Tell me why I panicked immediately and threw 2 puff puffs in my mouth 😭😭
I thought that he was going to say it was a wrong delivery and take it back.
With what I’m seeing, we need to start greeting some of you on this app before replying your tweets.
Wdym you were in SS3 in 2010?! Some of you even went as far as being in uni. IN 2010??!! What was the reason??!!
Nah that’s wild idc💀
Please, as a people, let’s unlearn the habit of sending “?????” as a follow up when someone hasn’t responded to your message.
I consider it to mean you want to beat me up or something.
Before I visited India, I always imagined, like everyone else, that teachers had one job - to make people love school.
10 minutes into my first conversation with Jimmy in Delhi, I realised I was wrong.
Meet the 68-year-old Indian teacher who inspired me to drop out of school…
It’s my mum’s birthday today 🎉🎉
I look at her at 54 and immediately know I’m safe from ageing 🤭 Thank you for the good genes, for being such a great example and for all your sacrifices, Ezinne’m. I love you ❤️
No matter how great your product is, if you don’t tell stories, you’d struggle to connect with the audience you intend to serve.
So, everyday for the rest of January, I’d be sharing bits of what I know on Storytelling, Content and Community Building for tech startups.
Shall we?
Some countries now have extra visa requirements based on country of birth, so even if you get a new passport, you’re never truly free.
Nigerian passport is ranked 95th out of 106. North Korea is 98th, mind you
Let’s not call a spade a Gucci bag so that all will be well with us.
This should be fun…
Here’s a list of all the countries I’ve been to, what kind of visas were required and the fees:
1. Nigeria - citizen
2.-5. Bénin, Senegal, Gambia, Ghana - visa-free
6. Jordan - eVisa (by an agency)
7. Mauritius - visa-free
8. Lebanon - visa-on-arrival ($2)
When I look at this, I think of all the times she had to print her bank statement, write a letter of introdution, get an invitation letter, fill out a visa form, declare that she will not run, provide a death certificate of her great grand parents and swear by the gods.😩😩
For as long as I remember, I’ve always felt severe birthday blues, and it’s taken me so long to figure out what I’ve been doing wrong.
It turns out I’ve been focusing too much on the future, instead of the past. So here’s my attempt at celebrating my growth…
I’ll be honest with you…
I’m a big advocate for “go see for yourself,”but you can only explore if you’re alive and safe.
This is probably the first and last time I’ll write a tweet as long as this, but it’s important that no part of it is taken out of context, so please bear
On Friday, this brand reached out to me for a partnership, and I shared my rates. They said they’d discuss with the team and get back to me.
I said it’s fine.
Today, Monday, I get a call from the same rep saying…
In 1783, a boy with two functioning heads was born in Mundal Guat, Bengal, India.
The sight startled the midwife so much that she threw the boy into a fire, though he survived with minor injuries.
Seeing a chance to profit, the parents took the boy to Calcutta where people
This morning, I was praying a “God please if this is not your will, please take it away”, I didn’t know when I followed it up with “but please take it easy, I’m fragile 😭” then it started to feel like I was warning Him, so I just lay there saying “God abeg” over and over.
The cheapest way to visit Maldives is to pair it with another country in Asia, especially if you plan to go from Nigeria.
Typical flight prices from Lagos cost about ₦1.5M, but flights to, say India, can cost about half of that. I flew from India to Maldives and back for $300.
