First, Bevin's loss isn't Trump's fault or a GOP problem, it's a Matt Bevin problem. Look at any of the downballot races. Bevin is the *only* Republican to lose. Cameron won AG by 16 over a former Dem AG. Ball won by 20 points.

On this Feast of St Thomas I think back to my visit to the the Basilica of St Thomas in Chennai, India where Thomas is enshrined. I stumbled upon one of the first masses I ever attended when I went down into the crypt to see the tomb.

My daughter attended a nearby but out of town parish today. The young pastor always uses incense, made heavy use of Latin, and even enrolled everyone in the brown scapular. The parishioners all knew their Latin responses. The generational shift in the church is brewing.

I thought I heard a sound from the room so I knocked on the open door. A voice answered so I stepped in and gave confession. It was only later that I realized the church power was out from the storms. But the priest was still there hearing confessions. Big kudos to him.

I stopped by a local church that has a conveniently timed Saturday afternoon confession. Usually there’s a line when I get there. I opened the door to the church and no one was around, no lights were on. Odd. I walked over to the confession room where the door was open.

American county courthouses from the 1800s are remarkable structures that rarely get much attention. Even counties with only 30,000 or so residents built amazing civic monuments, such as these from around Ohio (which has 88 counties, most of which have impressive courthouses).
