I'm an outdoor enthusiast living in Alaska. I aspire to instill in my children respect, knowledge and a love of the outdoors. All experiences and pics are ours.
I spotted this guy from a couple hundred yards away. I was already down wind, and there was good cover to hide behind, so I closed the distance to less than 40 yards to film him. He’s well on his way to being a dandy.
A camera (phone) doesn’t do this bull justice. He is huge. Standing more than 7 feet tall at the shoulders and weighing probably 1000 pounds, he is in his prime.
I was out at first light and happened upon this young bull running three cows. There were a couple satellite bulls, but this guy’s spunky attitude kept them at bay. 👊🏽
I saw this bull from a good distance tending a few cows as they slowly moved across a flat. I slipped down and set up on an intercept point. I was very lucky and he passed bye very close. He is a real dandy.😍
After 4 years of participating in this sport, all the hard work, practices and matches my daughter set a personal record today at the national competition. I hope tomorrow goes as well.

Meanwhile in a closed unit, here is the stuff dreams are made of. This bull is nearing the prime of his life. He is currently the dominant bull in the area. 😍
I was out yesterday looking for moose and bumped into this sow grizzly and cubs. I took this clip from 350 yards. The wind was in my favor and I was hidden from sight, but it was still close enough for me.
I spotted this bull yesterday. He was so engrossed in eating that I was able to slip to within 15 yards of him to capture a couple pics. He is going to be a dandy.
A continuation from yesterday’s post: I did press on past the grizzly tracks in the trail and I found this absolute beast of a bull. Here is a 30 second Youtube short of him - . I will drop a video on my YouTube channel soon.
I was out doing what I do best, minding my own business. I got luck and bumped into a bachelor herd of bull moose. This one is a real dandy, but he is not the largest.😜 Stay tuned.😘
On three occasions, I have been up close to lynx and filmed them (with my phone). The first two attempts, I failed to record anything. I finally figured I was more likely to get a selfie with Bigfoot. Then..

This is what true sacrifice looks like: I’m just trying to provide a little fresh salmon for the family. I hope my inner turmoil is appropriately captured in this picture.
A little excitement in our household: My daughter qualified for, and has traveled to, the regional civilian marksmanship program competition. Where she will compete with students from the Western US. Good luck lil K. 🎯
This bull is an absolute stud. He was injured fighting, and dethroning, the dominant bull in the area the night before I filmed this video. He disappeared shortly after this video and returned healed up the ready to fight a week later. He quickly reclaimed his territory and
The trip up was probably the hardest mile I’ve ever hiked. It is a very vertical climb in snow that varied in depth from just below my knees, to mid thigh: breaking trail the whole way. In the end, it was worth it.
Somehow I generally end up cooking when we camp. The first night I seared steaks in a cast iron skillet, to seal the juices in, and finished them on the BBQ.
Sunrise at an Arctic beach (I’m intentionally withholding the name of this specific beach so it doesn’t become overpopulated with sunbathers, volleyball nets and umbrellas).
This bull was killed in a fight with another bull this past season. I’d had occasion to film him several times, and after he died I searched for his remains and was charged by a large grizzly bear: Mistakes were made.
I spent a morning looking for Dall sheep. Generally, when I go looking for something, and I don’t find it, I’m disappointed. However, this morning was worth it just the view of it.
Arg! Walked back again. I was trying to sneak up on a bull to get a few pics and this lady wasn’t having any of that. Ears laid back, head down, she aggressively followed me down the trail for a 100 feet.😬
