SA Election #savotes today! Here’s some key SA facts. SA has highest unemployment rate in country. High youth joblessness. 30% hhlds have no-one in labour force. Median income lowest in country (with TAS). Below $50k. People don’t earn much. 1/4 #auspol

NZ faces same global inflation conditions, but instead of actively suppressing wages & multiplying the pain, they're helping lift low-paid up. Minimum wage was just lifted by 6%. Fair Pay Agreements & pay equity bargaining will boost wages across sectors (esp low paid women).

PM points to NZ as an example of where you wouldn't want to be. A country with a jobless rate of 3.2% and faster wages growth than Australia.

Importantly, the brains behind riots aren't wackjob conspiracists (their explanatory models aren't coherent enough). They're fascists. They believe in great replacement theory. Social darwinism. They’ve planned terror attacks. They’re organised. 3/5

While many scream “incompetence” at #COVID19nsw Berejiklian (& Morrison) use crisis & daily broadcasted pressers as platform to reframe pandemic, exploit fatigue & ratchet down expectations to “live with virus”. Putting biz b4 public health is their agenda since 2020. #auspol

Big low-wage employers lobby against unemployment benefits to suppress wages overall. By bashing the poor, or COVID-affected workers on pandemic leave as "lazy", it distracts from ratcheting down of quality of their own job offerings (i.e. low pay, casual, not enough hrs). 1/4

Trying to get tradies atm? Over 70% of workforce w VET skills went to TAFE. Sparkies, welders, fitters, carpenters. They studied in TAFE workshops, NOT trailers. Private VET get $bn’s to deliver short, cheap traineeships while TAFE is gutted. Marketisation has been a disaster!

Practical classes can’t be taught out of a trailer. #RebuildTAFE by returning classes back to real buildings on real campuses. #Rebuildourcommunities by giving access to education and skills in rural towns. @TAFEeducation @rlong62 @PhillipChadwick @abennett41 @TAFEdefender

"The key question is not whether Australians want more freedom, but whether they're willing to let #COVID19 rip through more than 8m people – most children – who will still be unvaccinated when we hit 80% threshold Morrison is so focused on." @RDNS_TAI

One thing's clear in NSW: biz interests cannot shape public health strategy. Too focused on short-term balance sheet. Rmbr: VIC govt withstood HUGE pressure to pull state thru. BCA were demanding lockdown ends on same day we clocked113 cases & 15 deaths!

I'd just got the call. I landed a permanent full-time job in the public service in Canberra. I called my family teary & ecstatic. Secure permanent work was about the ceiling of our expectations in this broken economy. 3/8

Shocking scenes at CFMEU HQ. Far-right orgs building ranks around anti-lockdown/vax. Loony right Kelly, Leyonhjelm & Latham now capitalising to expand profile. A mix of rent-a-tradie, non-union construction, some unionists too. A fringe but not insignificant. 1/3

Claims of wage-price spiral is pure fantasy! Where's the wages pressure? Collective bargaining collapsed. Union density 14%. What we have is PROFIT-price spiral. Record-high profits & price-setting power. This is a desperate resuscitation of 1970s for political posturing. #auspol

Uniting behind far-right hateful ideologies means inflicting pain on another section of the community. Unsurprisingly they hate govt COVID measures protecting lives. THIS is the far-right/public health nexus of pandemic. Its a global phenomenon. 4/5

I'd landed here through a housesitting website after years of insecure share-housing & crisis accommodation. It was a 1mo stay & I thought I'd hit the jackpot! No stable home in an unforgiving dog-eat-dog-cultured city like Sydney was rough. 2/8

Morrison's refusal to reinstate JK & CS is creating pressure-cooker of financial deprivation for states. They don't have capacity to fund programs at scale to properly back-in lockdowns. Its sabotage. #COVID19Aus #auspol

Unions have stated far-right targeting them all pandemic. There's a reason leaders like @sallymcmanus speak with authority. It's not new. Fascist groups world-over target unions as collectivist wrking class orgs. 1 planned to bomb VTHC last yr. 2/5

For yrs $m's flowed thru White Ribbon's DV "awareness industry" while $m's have been cut from frontline services (shelters, legal, income support). Women’s voices as survivors & wrkers in the sector were erased as male celebrities & pollies became The face of DV advocacy. 1/5
