The books in my “diverse OPT-IN boxes” were books about Ketanji Brown Jackson, Ruby Bridges, and John Lewis, and also included We Are All Are Welcome, We Shall Overcome, Change Sings, and I Am My Ancestors’ Wildest Dreams. I am LIVID that these had to be chosen as opt-ins.

Our library had a victory tonight! The library tax millage renewal passed by 168 votes. A win is a win. Our libraries will be fully funded another 10 years. If it had failed, they would have closed by 2026. This is what the haters were working towards for a year and they lost.

I’ve found that my small town really doesn’t like conflict and the book banners. The angry voices seem loud, but only 15-20 people take them seriously. The rest respect kindness, truth, and empathy. Most people are rational. Lean into that. Focus on THEM. The rest is just noise.

School librarians who become librarians so they can escape the classroom and coast to retirement are giving the rest of us a bad name. Don’t be a coaster! We owe it to our students to step it up a notch. A good librarian can make a HUGE impact on a school.

In a world full of bad library news, I just wanted to announce that tonight we had a VICTORY at our public library board meeting! Our board decided NOT to adopt a resolution pushed by our council that would restrict patrons and materials. So many supporters showed up. 🤗

Once again the judge denied me a right to a trial. BUT….I knew today’s ruling before we even got there so I am not let down. I walked out of court with my head held high and my RBG collar on bc I dissent. Today was a necessary legal maneuver. (1/2)

My 90 yo neighbor makes it a point to come out when I return home each day to tell me she loves and supports me. She doesn’t get around very well, but still does it to show me she cares. Hate doesn’t get you that kind of love—only kindness does. I am blessed.

A few weeks ago, @erinentrada , a favorite author of mine (also born in Louisiana) posted that I had moxie. It meant so much to me and has stuck with me these past few weeks. Yesterday I got it tattooed on my left wrist to remind myself to have courage. Thank you, Erin.

Thank you to everyone for your kind words. My grandmother passed away peacefully today surrounded by family. I’m going to Alaska to enjoy life like she told me to do. This is a cast of her hand and my daughter’s I took a few years ago. Thank all of you for your support.

Emergency hysterectomy wasn’t on my to-do list but it’s now checked off. I went in for ovary/cyst removal and next thing I know, I’m minus the whole shebang. I’m okay—just in some pain. Thank you to everyone for the prayers and good vibes. I appreciate them

My COVID has turned into pneumonia, but I’m feeling better after receiving a breathing treatment, shots, and new meds. This virus is the worst. Good news—my husband and daughter are doing very well today. Thank you to everyone for the well wishes—they’ve meant a lot!
