The FTX meltdown doesn't impact @kadena_io in any way. Well, I guess it means our FTX listing will never finalize. It's an open secret that FTX was behind SOL's rise (which they treated like their BNB chain), most of SOL's TVL, etc. Consequently, we didn't work much with FTX.

What am I missing here? Unless ETH2 txs go fully private, centralized block production breaks censorship resistance and makes the protocol exactly like VISA (centralized transaction orchestration, mapped out to many merchant banks ledgers for validation/settlement).

In times like this, I'm glad stuck with decentralization and organic growth vs selling +10% of our network to major VCs/Whales to act as hidden hands with their thumbs on the scale + a hype-first approach. @kadena_io 's path is harder and longer, but sustainable long term.

1/ (of 13ish) Debunking Kadena “gotcha’s”: miners can insert bad blocks onto some chain -or- a miner can take over a specific chain and insert bad blocks. No, this isn’t a problem but it was a common critique circa 2018 and it still comes up from time to time.

1/ Cog. Dissonance in Scaling, Nov'21. Solving scaling means that gas fees aren't crazy. ETH has years of truly impressive Layer-2 development and the highest adoption rate of L2 solutions. ETH still has insane gas fees. If L2 doesn't work for ETH, why will it work elsewhere?

@ZodiaCwIzaRd12 @SirLensALot :rolls eyes: blockchain's aren't supposed to crash. They can slow down and/or fall back to empty blocks in a worst-case scenario (usually an attack)... but the whole point of a blockchain is that it doesn't crash.

@WhiteTigerWest1 @SirLensALot @BlockchainDoug POS is fast (finality) until it's congested, then it's just like ETH was: high gas fees leading to faltering adoption -> drive to centralization/subchains/L2. If crypto is going to get real adoption beyond token transfers it needs an L1 that can scale long term... Like $KDA

Am I the only one concerned with the cognitive dissonance between "gas usage leads to mcap increase" and "network scalability"? The mechanisms seem to be either: gas being burned (deflationary -> higher coin price) or charged (staking collects the gas).

Large-scale adoption needs real scalability (not just a 10x faster blockchain) and scalability implies that gas prices should remain low. So if the value prop of a network being predicated to gas, was scalability ever a real goal or was it just a marketing term?

@kadena_ireland @KadenaUK @WhiteTigerWest1 @NepoleonBon @4IR_Alpha @SirLensALot @BlockchainDoug Yep. More bullish than ever actually. Part of solidifying foundations is making key hires that we just didn't have access to 4 years ago... and thats gone amazing. But hiring isn't really splashy and takes a lot of time... which also why things have been a bit quiet

@Kadenoshi This is cool, and yet Kadena's current branding is dope and we're not gonna change it. That said, it's a great concept and some new k-themed project on kadena should thing about taking inspiration from it.

@WhiteTigerWest1 @NepoleonBon @4IR_Alpha @SirLensALot @BlockchainDoug I don't think real enterprise adoption will happen to crypto until the public side of crypto gets its house in order, ex the bnb hack screams _not ready for primetime_. The problem is you can't really upgrade protocols in mainnet, so we needed to build for industry from the start

Moreover, there’s no password component – for most things it’s just a QR code that you scan with your phone and biometrics. For bigger ticket items, it’s a pin code too. It’s not all sunshine and kittens though.

@KadenaCali @WhiteTigerWest1 @kadena_io @SirLensALot @BlockchainDoug Agreed. Also we're not rolling as much medium/etc content stuff this week (and maybe next depending) because it'll just get lost in the ftx fallout. Instead we'll be able to focus more on infra (like the discord reorg).

6/ So, why isn’t this “gotcha” a problem for Chainweb? Mostly because it violates assumptions B and C. Honest miners are incentivized to mine the entire network. Each chain is a peer (there’s no central/beacon chain) and the miner reward is spread between the network evenly.

So @superhuman normally has a nice, calming "reward" nature picture for clearing your inbox. Such peace, much relax. It's a feature I look forward to. Today I emptied my inbox... and now I'm being hunted by a polar bear.

3/ Assumption B: Miners respond to economic incentives rationally. If behavior X is more profitable than Y they will do X. This is a core assumption of POW, and POW work.

@kadena_io @gauntletnetwork 15/ The black dot is the "bad block", and the lines are the references to it by other chains. Within a few depths, the attacker will need to be mining the entire network as the honest portion has failed-to-validate the bad block.

@javiermendonca @Crypto238900 @NicolasFlamelX KDA braids 20-chains together, but there's no "main chain" to be a sidechain of. When KDA 2.5x's its throughput to 50-chains, the network's sum POW gets divided by 50 instead of 20. Because POW is +99% of total network effort (<1% for node ops), KDA scales w/o increasing compute.

13/ Though logical and self-evident to us, we wanted to double-check that there wasn’t some sneaky strategy/something we missed. Thus @kadena_io became @gauntletnetwork 's first client:

7/ Thus, miners would reduce their possible rewards by not mining the entire network. The cost of replicating an extra 10 (or 1k) chains is nothing compared to the cost of a single ASIC. This truth is strong enough to assume that, so long as Assumption A holds…

10/ The second that this bad actor attempts to include a bad block, the honest majority rejects it and doesn’t work on a network that includes it. For the bad actor to keep the block in the network until 1/2 of confirmation depth, they will need 51% of the hash power.

11/ Why? Because chainweb blocks recursively refer to each other, so within a short period of time the bad actor needs to mine more and more chains in the network because the honest majority isn’t including the bad block.

@KianuPicanto @thedailygripe_ @HathorNetwork All DAG approaches are limited in how much they can scale. At best they'll see a 20x speed bump over traditional (sequential) blockchains and that scaling is determined by how unrelated tx's are to each other (ie parallelizable). Literally a law in CS

@Jonbros01 @kadena_io Of two, pick one: a large premine with low inflation (favors VCs/insiders, which is kinda the whole point of pos) or a small premine with high initial inflation (more egalitarian). I don't regret our choice, because in return we got a great community and iron hard asic security.

9/ But say you’re a bad actor, and you want to attempt to “own” a chain by producing every block for it. So long as the blocks are honest (remember that the honest majority is still replicating/validating the chain you “own”) then there’s no problem.

8/ … then a majority of the network will always mine the entire network. In practice, I doubt there will ever be significant chain-specific mining efforts. The economics just don’t make sense. This is even more true when pools are taken into account.

@savil_0402 @kadena_io @SirLensALot Tech dominance has never been an issue for $KDA, and more tech won't help KDA right now. Exposure has always been KDA's issue. KDA never got mega-VC/whale "daddy" to put their thumb on the scale behind the scenes... our approach never afforded them the proper "control".
