Has anyone measured the entropy yet? Asks for 200x lossless compression on incompressible data.

@elonmusk
if basic quantization, delta compression, basic flac compression and basic LZ variants all fail... You not going to get much compression.
What is the best SNR we need?

Visual Studio Command Prompt for x86 should still let you compile for x86 today.
Steam chose to not break compatibility with the older computers. Can't blame them.
Use CMake, they said. It'll be easy, they said ...
Nope, but I got 3.14 working on XP. Not my proudest patch, but with tiny changes to libcmcurl, overhaul of libcmuv and appropriate CMake/CTest/CPack changes, the thingie runs with zero DLL errors now.
This is my little home lab. Along with some toys I have collected for some time now.
All of them are toys actually. I got an RTX to add this weekend. But this is great for me to run my stuff.

Bro, If I can measure the entropy and it happens to be perfectly random and you need it lossless at 200x with a latency of 1ms with 2024 technology.... I have some terrible news to share. Let me look at the problem though tonight and will post an analysis.
I write all sorts of factual things and nobody notices it.
I put this up, seemingly become popular and a clickbait and now I admit this I should have read more into. 'Test of time' paper came out a decade ago.
I seriously wonder what Ilya up to now. Hope he's okay.

I still think it's one of the best compression ratios I've seen for some documents - by far. Even PDFs can't match the 30kB/page sizes I see on some books I have.
There aren't many tools to archive books as DJVU, it would be highly useful to

I'd be considered mad if I wanted to do this one decade ago.
Thank you Tailscale.

I wonder if they are simply sprinkling unsafe everywhere 😁 c2rust on Quake III already gave us a hint of how it was done. Would like to see how far this has come.

We can, we do know how to do it.

Look, this kind of identity shaming is not new to some people. Some woman called me a Paki once. I wasn't offended because it was a different country than I came from - with different ideologies perhaps, but the fact that she thought it's a slur term.

As of now the data compresses to a mere 2.2x and it's not even as good as text data which goes at 5-7x normally.
So the first intuitive guess is, bad idea.
Sitting in my room in Chennai, listening to music and working on my old PC. Feels like 2000s all over again. Bliss.
For the record, I fixed my old computer with new PSU/CPU Fan/SD to IDE Adapter, we have Jio Fiber now, and I got a 24" FreeSync monitor for cheap on Amazon ($100).
This is the BMC replacement we've been looking for a long time. I would prefer the PCI SFF way so it can work everywhere on all non-server computers. Could be a game changer if the firmware is flash able, we could add OpenBMC/Redfish eventually

I had an ambitious goal at the start of last year--demonstrate fearless concurrency in C++. Now it's working. This is one of the coolest things in language design.
No data races to shared state--statically guaranteed.
shared_ptr<mutex<T>> in C++ is Arc<Mutex<T>> in Rust.

What is the best resolution you need? Those can quickly give you high ratios and the neuralink scientists could say: adequate or not.
Could someone confirm these requirements again? 🙏
Maybe I'm just nostalgic. But a visualization I and a friend wrote back in 2003 just worked in Winamp 5.9.2. 20 years of not breaking Compatibility ....
Impossible to imagine this today.
To think that the world's best optimized C code isn't even C11 yet and still runs so damn well tells you a lot about how great this code is.
They had a randomizer and generated code verifier for all their ASM/Macro speedups, that it does not even bother me as crazy anymore. Wow
Whether it is software or hardware, doing little cleanups can keep them running for a very long time.
Featured here are my old NAS box and my old computer. Looking like new.

Brother or Canon. Don't buy from any other manufacturer.
Epson is slightly better than HP but they have firmware bombs for their Ecotank printers.

What is the point of putting an encrypted file to the whole wide Twitter world? Very few people care about the standard. Is this like a tease saying that, if you download that file and could brute force it, you've earned the right to the standard? 😀

It has nothing to do with just the language, but the compiler code gen targets. CUDA's programming language is simple, really and AMD came up with a ROCm clone that comes quite close and usable. The deal is that irrespective of that, one needs to ship end user libraries.
@nisten
3 packages bad, Python bad.
Node had these issues for ages, still does.
We already have ways to protect our packages and supply chain - yet we don't have developers who want to minimize the number of auditable dependencies nor files anymore.
@__phantomderp
Very very sorry to hear about your experience. 😥I was really looking forward to that keynote. I shall always remember you for your amazing contributions and dedication. Thank you.

Back in early 2000s I managed to get Puppy Linux running on a 128MB drive with literally everything, including the devx package. I still had 40MB left.
It's funny how the Extropic AI guys are coming out with a simple etched chip claiming a brand new invention when many analogue circuits have been doing Matmul for years in Nature.

In an age where you need the money but your current work circumstances can't afford it, let your manager know and see if they can give you a better offer.
But before that, ask yourself why you wanted to look out in the first place. When you commit to it, don't regret it.
