otome game developers: and here's one male character that you can't romance because NO ONE would want to romance THIS g--
literally every fucking otoge player ever: LET US HAVE HIM GIVE US HIM WE DESIRE HIS FLESH
Judgement (SSR) (Wind)
Main Aura: 130% boost to Wind allies' Normal ATK. 10% boost to DEF
Sub Aura: 10% boost to Wind allies' damage dealt against Earth foes.
Call: 500% Wind damage to all foes. Revive one Wind ally at random. Revived ally is Sentenced for 4 turns.
(okay to RT) I'm not in Houseki no Kuni fandom, but I am a geologist and saw some people talking about buying their first minerals, so I thought I'd make a (really) short guide to purchasing mineral specimens~
do you know what fucks me up about the lucisan scene in the ending
it's not just closure for the gaping wound that wmtsb2 left, it's a full and complete maturation of their relationship
Belial: how about you take this ship and let the two of us go
Sandalphon: he killed lucifer and tried to end the world
Belial: you don't have all the facts
Sandy: which are?
Belial: I love him
Apparently Mikazuki's actor used to dream of going pro in baseball... so being in the Tokyo Dome was the realization of a childhood dream... I'm so soft
Spare a thought for writers, who have to watch this storm of capitalism happening in fandom and yet remain largely unable to participate in or profit from it
sometimes I feel when some ppl say “this fandom is dead” what ends up being implied (intentionally or not) is “this fandom is no longer profitable“
which Hm. A lot of ppl have talked abt how fleeting fandom feels online lately and I think this probably is a part of it
I'm so tired of "as long as it isn't romanticized" in posts about content, as if the whole point of any modern or classical romance isn't drama, or lust, or pathos
@Iacaille
i remember a wank.posted on fandom_wank where someone insinuated that if you were a Good Upright Woman, you made fresh squeezed orange juice, and (I quote), "only whores use frozen".
which led to the creation of the term 'whorange juice'
really depressing how people think that there's moral justification for ships
moral justification mixed with fantasy sounds an awful lot like religion; explains the zealotry of ship wars, honestly
@freetofic
They are simultaneously having no effect on injustice in the real world, AND poisoning the well of fantasy and making it less effective as an escape for others. Fandom could do with more critical reading, but misdirected activism ain't it.
Gbf: releases belial
Tkrb: sirens blaring, red lights flashing
Tkrb devs: sir what do we do
Digitarou: release the slut
Devs: sengo is out already sir
Digitarou: no, the other one
Devs: sir he's too powerful
Digitarou: we have no choice lieutenant
Devs: s-sir yes sir!
cishets get to have all kinds of genres: horror, romance, supernatural, fantasy
but queers only get ONE genre: QUEER. and you better stay within respectable boundaries of that or society will take notice and rescind the pardon on your miserable lives
@micuwu22
@turntechGodhead
@ebenrosetaylor
may i suggest instead of "do they have moose in Virginia" you Google "range of the American moose" which should get you a map
work smarter, not harder
Nasty shit in fiction is just a litmus test for me now. I just come straight out the gate with noncon mpreg incest and if you're still here, then that's great
I do not have time or patience for anyone who supports thought policing
@freetofic
But the vast, vast majority of people do not read fiction to engage in activism. You read activist literature (blogs, tweets, etc) to engage in activism and have one's actions have effects in the real world. People who are "activist" in fan spaces are worse than ineffective.
so wild that when someone says "pedophilia" on fandom twitter I have to sit here and have a good hard think about "do they mean an actual child fucker or someone who ships something they don't like"
why is it that men get to make fucked up stuff all the time--it makes up the majority of our mass media-- and the moment a woman or dfab person makes fucked up stuff for a small audience of a few thousand people we gotta stop it or the moral fabric of society is at stake
lmao that creator with "it's 2019 can we not call comics with gay relationahips BL"
well Susan I'm frankly troubled by the sniff of 'my white lgbt genre is better than your misguided eastern fetishising genre' in your statement but you go ahead and put your whole ass out there
If you are friends with an adult and they say something like "we should keep the dmmd fandom safe for kids/fun for everyone" you need to get the fuck away because that person is talking about actively engaging minors in 18+ discussions!!
@Satirony
Overspecialization produces scientists poorly equipped to have big ideas about how the world and its almost countless systems work and interact. Interdisciplinary grad students have their novel approaches undervalued and are harder to 'sell' to a job market.
there's a difference between euro/us-focused white supremacy and asia-focused colorism
asian artists can have a conversation about the colorism in their communities and the occident needs to let them have that on their own terms without offering our "corrections" of their art
"why do (thing) when you could do ('better' thing)"
as a critique? it never comes from a place of wanting to improve a piece of work
it is always about controlling what art you make, what feelings you give voice to
someone: it's fucking fiction stop attacking people over ships
an asshole: I support your post but ___ is never okay
THEN YOU DON'T. SUPPORT. THE POST????
someone, probably: sweet pool is a BL VN so I'm going to read it for the gay
folks, if you're new to nitro+chiral, you should treat sweet pool like devilman crybaby. don't read it "for the gay", cause you are going to be VERY DISAPPOINTED
@freetofic
Back in the Old Days we had fandom wank, and honestly I think it was very good for keeping things in perspective. At that time, the internet was still not present in every household and certainly wasn't on phones, so engaging in fandom was a conscious choice.
@goldentruth813
writing is an attempt to start a conversation. we tell stories because we want someone to hear them
otherwise we would be satisfied just thinking them up and keeping them to ourselves
there's an entire conversation that amateur writers have about "writing for yourself" and being satisfied with no comments, no feedback, loving it just for ~*The Craft*~ and it's so far away from the cottage industry that fanartists can participate in that it's hard to believe
in light of the changes made that hurt artists on Twitter, a gentle reminder that now more than ever, writers NEED your replies to their tweeted work.
we already have low visibility bc of the media landscape. pls comment if you liked what you read, it will help so much.
@freetofic
This has led to posts like "gay ships aren't activism" (which is true), and "fiction is reality" (which is not). It is highly unlikely that we can untangle social activism from fandom at this point, although neither is made better by being adulterated.
@lightveils
I recently had a comment on a longfic I started in 2004 and abandoned in 2007. The reader looked up my current pseuds, FOUND ME, and got to hear the ending I never wrote. We had a lovely convo. Your comment is ALWAYS welcome
y'all really can't enjoy something fucked up without a disclaimer because you spend so much time judging others and yourselves for simply being excited by emotions and social transgressions
fucking victorians
@declinant
Aether has a small immersive community, so there's been some effort on the part of venues to encourage immersive (fully IC) RP. I run a cafe on Sarg and have this little quick-start guide on our carrd:
I know I am the only person in the world who is bothered by the whole "_____ has no rights" meme but I feel like it chips away at the foundations of good behavior in fandom? it's the beginning of invalidating others' opinions and dehumanizing other fans on that basis
@turntechGodhead
information is readily available if you understand that no one has asked and answered your particular curiosity before. you have to prise the info you need out of the info others have already gathered. writers are experts in meta-data.
touken ranbu is so great because you get out of it what you put into it
ppl who don't read history or watch stage plays or care abt anime or manga drift away real quick
but if you put in the effort, it's such a rich and rewarding experience and the eng fandom is so chill
@freetofic
And then you made that GREAT post about tumblr, which presented fandom alongside activism. The two merged, and now we have this Frankenstein approach to entertainment that merges fannish activity and activism.
plus like
if you as a Westerner don't see the colonial/imperialist roots of Westerner trying to tell Asian folks how to do their own Asian shit properly, what can I say except yikes
doujin culture has been the single thing i wished the US would earnestly adopt, because it is so community-oriented, but i should have guessed that we would end up with an individualistic hellscape of stalking and entitlement to showrunners and writers instead 😌
idk if I'm the only one who feels like this but
transformative work that we post online is an attempt at conversation and connection
every fic, art, meta, playlist, etc, is an attempt to provoke a discussion with someone about the thing we love
As a person of majority age they should know better than giving minors advice on how to enter adult spaces.
We don't want minors here. It's an R18 fandom. You don't have to go home but you can't stay here.
I like to call my period "moonsickness" because this includes people who aren't women (no "lady time"), doesn't pin the unpleasantness on a female relative ("Aunt Flo"), accurately describes the feeling of having one, and also may be confused for lycanthropy
you can tell the "fiction affects reality" people never had to live through the D&D and heavy metal "discourse" in the 80s about how kids were going to turn into devil worshipers for consuming this highly occult media
where are the neo-moralists' jack chick tracts
@Bananaapplesmo1
@RuderDeidara
@nortoncampbeII
counterpoint: high schoolers have seen trig more recently than established adults, so not only is this not a good method to keep minors from seeing porn, it would be easier for a high school student vs a grown adult
swords: tools for killing other humans effectively
someone: my uwu sweet baby son
swords: frequently used for the aforementioned killing
someone: this sword is so innocent, protect him
@adamszym
Moralizing in fiction has always increased with a society-wide push toward fascist and authoritarian viewpoints. In this case, the change happened post-9/11 and really got going after strikethrough on LJ
@freetofic
Likewise, if you took things Too Seriously, you were mocked for how seriously you took them. Like Jesus Christ, pet a kitten or something, get out of the house, this is bad for you to have this tunnel vision and lack of outside input.
Dmmd is not safe for minors at all, ever, I don't give a fuck how this person tries to coddle them or make them think "once you've read this thread you know how to deal with ADULTS in dmmd fandom"
@NOTAVAGNAR
I have seen someone announce it to a full Large venue, get roasted and then type "oops". Bro didn't even leave, and neither did his scene partner. He still goes back to the venue, too
BL has grown and changed over time like all media has, and judging it (and its fans) by antiquated content is disingenuous
furthermore, fujin should be extended the same license to enjoy "problematical" fiction that straight men have always had
let us make fucked up stuff without running it by the unpleasantness committee first
I'm not here to be pleasant, I'm not here to coddle people or parent someone else's children
hunting down women/dfab people to answer for art and thought crimes is disgusting
Sometimes writers are able to collect massive followings (as long as they write Correctly, which is a whole other thread and speaks to OP's concerns about no weird shit) but there is the same emphasis on production of content for consumption rather than community
been thinking about media with "minors" in it
i use "minors" in quotes because i think there is a common misconception that an author is writing 'a minor' in a scenario when what they're really doing is writing about innocence and insecurity
my TL: fretting about a hot anime man who is a billionaire, vaguetweets about leftist weebs who find him compelling
me: it's not real?? it's fiction? you can enjoy this fictional capitalist and also hate actual capitalism?
are some of my ships in bad taste? yeah, no doubt about that
but as they have no bearing on my real life actions, assigning them a moral weight suggests that thoughts have a moral weight
and we know what the next stop is after that
if you had a not-fluffy life? messy emotions? complex feelings? FUCK YOU for wanting anything that resembles that, anything that speaks to the raw wounds society gave you
I've seen someone whose art I really enjoy struggling with a lot of self-doubt tonight, so I want to talk a little bit about something that changed my life and the way I create.
A lot of artists don't make back their money they invest on MOQs or their time they lost drawing for an unprofitable zine
but most of the time, writers aren't given the chance to participate
every page a writer puts in a physical zine reduces profitability
