the JS VM is too passive, and users no longer feel involved. i propose instead of tiering up automatically, the browser user (not developer!) must press a series of key chords to engage the clutch and change to a higher tier. doing this wrong stalls the page, and requires reload

reached stage 1 JS has to reckon with concurrency and parallelism, and this is a powerful escape hatch for shared memory concurrency definitely a "with great power comes great responsibility" feature, but a power i contend we need for the future
