Ethiopia was always landlocked since the 1890s. Before that Ethiopia was mostly limited to Amhara, Tigray highlands. Between 1962-1991, Ethiopia only had access to the Red Sea due to its unlawful annexation of Eritrea. The Red Sea is as strange to Ethiopia as the Indian Ocean is.

False. Tigrinya is not taught at secondary schools anywhere in Eritrea (not even in Tigrinya speaking areas). Children go to school in their mother tongue until the 5th grade and study English afterwards. There is so much to talk about without having to invent outrageous claims.

1/5 When feudal Ethiopia begun massacring civilians in Eritrea in the second half of the 1960s, refugees begun migrating to Sudan in the tens of thousands. The Ethiopian state welcomed the exodus as a weakened Eritrea was less likely to continue to put up a fight.
